Unvaccinated I'm really starting to have an issue with

I don't care if you don't get the vaccine. I'd rather people I love and care about did as I genuinely believe it protects people - but if you don't I think it's everyone's right to refuse it if they choose.

What I'm really, really struggling with is unvaccinated not understanding there's a consequence to it.

So, at my place of work unvaccinated will go with reduced payment and people are complaining about it. It's driving me nuts - how do unvaccinated expect to isolate due to being in contact with someone who tests positive and not have a consequence? Why should a workplace shoulder the cost of an unvaccinated persons poor decision making?

How do unvaccinated think Covid will ever end if no one gets the vaccine?

What if none of us got the vaccine, what do unvaccinated think would happen, or do you not care?

AIBU to think fair enough if you refuse the vaccine, but you should accept there is a consequence to your choice so that we all get a decent healthcare system? (Hopefully)

So, at my place of work unvaccinated will go with reduced payment

What does this mean?

Happyinheels · 16/11/2021 21:38

Covid is not going to go away because of the vaccine.
Covid is here and we have to learn to live with it.

SencosRshit · 16/11/2021 21:44

Covid spreads amongst the vaccinated. Families, all vaccinated, are passing it onto one another.

If the world was 100% vaccinated COVID would still be virulent.

XenoBitch · 16/11/2021 21:47

We are being told unvaccinated are dangerous and full of Covid.. so if they get told to isolate due to being a close contact, then you would want them to be on full pay so they can actually afford to isolate, and keep your vaccinated self safe.

YesNoWhoCares · 16/11/2021 21:48

So are there two pay scales now at your workplace, they still have to pay NMW though

Helpstopthepain · 16/11/2021 21:50

Do you mean sick pay is reduced? Or normal pay?

Helpstopthepain · 16/11/2021 21:51

MauraandLaura · 16/11/2021 21:51

Is this a joke? People are your work who have declined the vaccine are getting less pay?

Is this the new phrase now 'the unvaccinated' like a dirty subset of people. Should they wear arm bands to let other 'vaccinated' know who they are?

I have had both vaccines because I work with vulnerable people and it was totally my choice to do so but your attitude fucking stinks!

I really hope you are a troll OP.

I can't even see this as legal tbh - its gotta be a wind up!
Incognito22333 · 16/11/2021 21:53

I think we need something like 80 per cent of the entire population with a relatively up to date vaccine especially in the winter. However, obviously a healthy 21 year old not having the vaccine is not as bad for the health service as an obese 70 year old man with a pre existing lung condition not having it. I think we should just pay everyone/incentivise everyone to have the vaccine every 6 months - still going to be better than further massive drain on health service/lockdowns. Use carrot not stick!

boogiebogie · 16/11/2021 21:54

I hope they know some good lawyers your unvaccinated colleagues.. I would be chatting to mine pronto

YesNoWhoCares · 16/11/2021 21:54

It doesn't sound legal to suddenly reduce peoples pay for not having a vaccine

AgnesNaismith · 16/11/2021 21:56

Am I alone in hating the phrase ‘learn to live with it’ it sounds like a severe punishment handed down to the perpetrator of a crime.

Is it not that we need to protect ourselves with masks/vaccines/not crowding too much and wait for it to evolve to a less dangerous strain?

hellololabells2019 · 16/11/2021 21:56

I think the OP means if the unvaccinated go off sick with covid

YesNoWhoCares · 16/11/2021 21:57

You must have some lower paid people at your workplace and it is illegal to pay below NMW so how can they be paid less

chickendoodoo · 16/11/2021 21:58

What do you think the consequences should be if people are not vaccinated? If you are vaccinated you can still spread it and the unvaccinated are not some threat or capable of spreading it anymore than the vaccinated are. All the vaccines do is reduce hospitalisation and not the spread!

People have a right to choose what they put into their body. If smokers are free to smoke and potentially get lung cancer to be treated on the nhs well why should the unvaccinated be treated differently? The survival rate of healthy people under 40 is very high. I'll take that over the vaccine thank you. I'd be taking legal action if I worked at the same place as you as well.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/11/2021 21:59

It's been proven that vaxxed and unvaxxed carry the same viral load.

The opposite has also been 'proven'.

Anyway, I agree with the OP. If you are repeatedly getting told to isolate for 10 days on contact with a case, then you should start having reduced pay in the same way that long term sick works in most industries. It's not fair on work colleagues to have to cover at work while you sit at home for week after week.

YesNoWhoCares · 16/11/2021 22:00

OP doesn't mention sick pay

LethargicActress · 16/11/2021 22:01

I’m not sure what you mean either, but if your employer has decided they aren’t going to pay people properly for following the rules set by the government, then I can understand why they’d feel they have cause to complain. I’d object to that in my workplace even as a vaccinated person p.

It is not ok to discriminate against people for not wanting a vaccine.

Howshouldibehave · 16/11/2021 22:02

So, at my place of work unvaccinated will go with reduced payment

Can you elaborate?

YesNoWhoCares · 16/11/2021 22:02

Strange that OP hasn't come back

StrongSunglasses · 16/11/2021 22:03

Yabu

PrincessPaws · 16/11/2021 22:03

I'm guessing it's less 'getting reduced pay' and more 'will no longer get full pay for having to isolate'
