@PurpleDaisies

Oh sorry, I didn’t realise that, just Google it’s all over the media, it was done on behalf of the world health organisation.

“Just Google” isn’t a study.

Why won’t you share the specific study you were looking at?

Because it's utter bollocks!

Still think its a good look @PrincessNutNuts ??

Suzi888 · 17/11/2021 02:35

Oh jeez, is this where we are headed now Hmm

SpringKit · 17/11/2021 05:17

Errr @mercybooth. I’ve just looked into that tweet, and apparently it’s NOT to do with vaccinated/unvaccinated. It was a Santa event in Holland that had 5000 tickets, and they sold out. Which is why the people aren’t being let in. Vaccination was NOT a requirement to attend.
I think it’s awful that you are trying to manipulate peoples opinions (as a poster clearly been influenced judging by their comment below your post) - in a time when people are vulnerable. This is inflammatory and unnecessary.

Is what a good look?

And where did I say it was?

P.S. That looks like a covid misinformation Twitter account.

SpringKit · 17/11/2021 05:23

It’s this kind of nonsense that is the problem. Spreading misinformation, influencing others on social media, encouraging others to make bad health decisions and making a bad situation even worse is just infuriating. Why on Earth do people do this?

SpringKit · 17/11/2021 05:28

Is there a way to report that post?

SpringKit · 17/11/2021 05:38

@Suzi888 just want it made clear that the Twitter post that @MercyBooth linked was misinformation. It was a Santa event that sold out of tickets and not to do with vaccinated/unvaccinated. I hope you weren’t influenced.

SpringKit · 17/11/2021 06:05

Looking at that tweet - and the comments - it’s just textbook stupidity, and is a shining example of the huge problem we face with misinformation. The majority of tweeters have taken it at face value and are just using it to get hyped up. One tweeter is ridiculing Santa in November (so doesn’t understand that Dutch have Sinterklass early in December) - and then a few posters waving their hand saying - nope this is just a sold out Santa event and misinformation - calmly, sanely and like they actually know what they are talking about.

SpringKit · 17/11/2021 06:12

And can someone please explain the rationale behind ‘we are being manipulated, controlled and coerced by the government’ while in the same breath displaying a tweet of a video that has been manipulated to control people’s thinking with misinformation?

If you click on the 3 dots you can report. I've done it, presume others have too.
MarshaBradyo · 17/11/2021 06:47

The cases in the last week per 100k - lowest out of the uk - England, with 364 then Scotland 384 then Northern Ireland 496 and the highest is wales with 501 per 100k

Whenever this is mentioned it’s deflected. People refer to another country or something else but it’s a good point. I’m yet to see a good reason why from defenders of masks / passes etc but it’s interesting they are higher.

Warhertisuff · 17/11/2021 07:02

@PrincessNutNuts

I looked up Germany's: 277.4

Germany's may be a bit lower, but it is has been on a steep upward trajectory, despite high quality masks, something that isn't the case in the U.K. where cases have been flat.

MarshaBradyo · 17/11/2021 07:07

It’s rising pretty fast even from that post which doesn’t have a date so maybe last week

amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/16/germany-set-to-tighten-rules-for-unvaccinated-as-covid-cases-rise

Tue 16 Nov 2021 17.18 GMT

On Tuesday the country’s disease control agency, the Robert Koch Institute, recorded a seven-day incidence rate of 312 cases per 100,000 people, with several areas at more than 1,000.

This is why I don't understand Boris wanging on about storms coming from Europe.
Surely the UK had the storm and it's now just raining quite a lot? While Europe is entering one?

MarshaBradyo · 17/11/2021 07:13

PAFMO I think it’s booster encouragement

Case numbers getting higher will remind people. We do need booster take up over winter but I agree that it’s not as concerning as some have made out

I really genuinely would love to know why the rates in England are currently the lowest in the uk, despite masks no longer required and no vaccine passports etc (at least currently)

At one point this year Scotlands figures were the highest in Europe. And at that time it was suggested it was down to the fact that we locked down longer than other parts of the uk. Some areas only had a slight lifting of restrictions for a few weeks in September 20 then back into lockdown again until March (if memory serves me correctly)

Yes, I suppose that figures. Thanks. Though reading that some people can't access even second doses is concerning.

Possibly because it was able to spread more in the summer?

Living in the Netherlands. Yes, it was a controlled event. Sinterklaas arrives on a Saturday on his steamboot from Spain in the middle of November, to bring presents on the 5th of December and then leave to go back to Spain. These events were limited entry and adults had to either be vaccinated, had the virus or had been tested to be able to go into the venue. Kids under 12 were exempt of this ( but no kid above 12 wants to be seen at such an event anyway). This in accordance to the Dutch rules. It was a compromise to not take away a major event from the kids and try and minimise the spread. The Netherlands is a very densely populated country, trying to stop infections is a nightmare. We all have to live with these compromises and honestly, is it that hard? If you had a recent test, you had a qr code to get in.
SpringKit · 17/11/2021 08:18

@sanluca

Yes, which sounds sensible to me!

But the tweet was inflammatory - implying that there was some sort of high barrier being put up to keep out the unvaccinated. And that wasn’t the case. The video was being manipulated - the children were crying because the event was sold out! It’s the exaggeration that annoys me, the deliberate manipulation.

I lived in Netherlands for a couple of years, loved my time there. Groetjes from the UK.

Yes, I've read that also about why Scotland's rate was so high early in the year too. It does make sense.
