And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

@rrhuth

our attitude to our own health, fitness, diet, exercise It is not the fault of ordinary Britons, I am sick of the ordinary public being blamed!
The UK is unhealthy as a nation. Significant proportions of adults in the UK are obese, which does increase the risk for severe covid. When there were pictures in the press of the healthcare workers who died of Covid, it was obvious by their photos that many were obese.
Thewiseoneincognito · 19/10/2021 22:33

@LetsGoFlyAKiteee

They'd have to bring back furlough which looks unlikely. Only thing can see changing is maybe bringing back masks and working from home ideally if possible. I dont see another lockdown being well received. People would carry on mixing indoors in houses anyway.
Another lockdown would be better received than the alternative of an almost collapsed NHS and deaths nearing the 500/600/700/800 per day range for weeks as winter hits.
bluetuesdayy · 19/10/2021 22:33

@Flaxmeadow

"That we would probably have 'rolling lockdowns' for 'at least 18 months'"

We are absolutely not told this. Chris Whitty said social distancing for at least 6 months.

Does anyone else remember being told we would be having rolling lockdowns for 18 months? Even if they knew we would, they would not have told us that right at the beginning.

HesterShaw1 · 19/10/2021 22:33

And yet the glaring elephant in the room isn't mentioned in the reports alongside these photos

siestalady · 19/10/2021 22:33

@HesterShaw1

No we're not

I understand that the British population has been deliberately traumatised and panicked, and that they have been conditioned into thinking that "lockdown" is an acceptable response to a virus, but really I wish people would stop posting shit like this 😡

Agree completely with this.
Anjo2011 · 19/10/2021 22:34

I don’t think the majority of the public will accept further lockdowns, regardless of the stats.

NortieTortie · 19/10/2021 22:34

My kids' school has reeled itself in again. Parents evening is back to virtual, same with assembly and nativity. Class bubbles are back, amongst other things like staggered drop offs. I don't think a full lockdown is necessary but they should have continued the isolation for year groups/siblings that have been exposed to virus.

idontlikealdi · 19/10/2021 22:35

I agree with you too
Blankspace4 · 19/10/2021 22:37

I can’t imagine they will bring back furlough but I can see strong guidance to WFH, mask wearing, and vaccine passports

It’s just a grim picture. Vaccines were supposed to be a route out and they really aren’t are they.

Thewiseoneincognito · 19/10/2021 22:37

God help us all if no action was taken because the repercussions would reverberate through all sections of society if we simply ignored the massive public health calamity staring us in the face.
CarpeVitam · 19/10/2021 22:37

@SaveWaterDrinkGin

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: some people really, really don’t want this to end…
Perhaps because they read the news and know it isn't over yet? 🙄🤷‍♀️
DumplingsAndStew · 19/10/2021 22:38
OK - why has this been extended without a vote then?
Can you link to the source of the vote within that video? Nothing on the audio confirms that they were voting on what is captioned.
EffOrf · 19/10/2021 22:38

It will likely be masks, 2 metres SD, WFH if possible and vaccine passports for events and nightclubs most likely, not lockdown or the government will have to bring back furlough and people won't bother with their boosters if they lockdown.

frumpety · 19/10/2021 22:39

I honestly don't think that there is the appetite or fiscal wherewithall in Government or in the majority of the population, for another bells and whistles lockdown.

This doesn't neccessarily mean it isn't the right thing to do, but infection control is always limited by what you can convince people to do most of the time to try to limit spread. Personally I think we will be back to a 'Hands, Face and Space' or similar three word scenario over the coming Winter months.

RedToothBrush · 19/10/2021 22:39

No.

We are not.

Next.

HunkyPunk · 19/10/2021 22:40

With cases, deaths and hospital admissions all rising, why on earth they can’t re-introduce some of the least onerous restrictions such as compulsory mask-wearing in public indoor spaces and wfh if you can, I don’t know.

CarpeVitam · 19/10/2021 22:40
@cantkeepawayforever I’m absolutely not saying that any of this is imaginary or trivial or anything of the sort, but there are posters on Mumsnet literally salivating at the thought of another lockdown when in truth none of us can say what will happen.
You can SEE ppl salivating on Mumsnet? 🤨 🤣

cantkeepawayforever · 19/10/2021 22:40

I agree. It may not be CALLED a lockdown, but a de facto lockdown, or at least de facto significant restrictions, are already being implemented in many schools due to the lack of adults and the extraordinary explosion of cases (multiple thousands per 100,000 in key school-age age groups at the moment, and that is only up to 5 days ago, with no sign of the increase slackening pace)
Flaxmeadow · 19/10/2021 22:40

Flaxmeadow this was said at the start of the pandemic when no one had any idea a vaccine could be rolled out so quickly.

Yes it was and the vaccine has been successful. Exceeded expectations to an extent. But the vaccine is not a cure and no one ever said it was. No one ever said there would be an end date to this virus. Politicians have said that we can control it by lockdown but temporarily. For example when Boris said we could see an end to 1st lock down. But this was in reference to the first wave only

Stop deliberately scaring people.

I'm not. I've said many times on here that the vaccine has been successful. That lockdowns have prevented the NHS being totally overwhelmed and supported people with optimistic posts. But this is still a serious situation and what good would lying about that do?

HesterShaw1 · 19/10/2021 22:41

The usual suspects on here insist that other people think it's "over" because they're not spending their days spreading pessimism on the internet

No, we don't think it's over. We don't have our heads in the sand. We just know that life is for living.

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 19/10/2021 22:41

No

HesterShaw1 · 19/10/2021 22:43

And whether you like it or not, many people are very tired and have stopped caring. They're tired of being panicked by yo-yo predictions in the media. They're tired of being scared their lives might slam shut again.

Flaxmeadow · 19/10/2021 22:43

It’s just a grim picture. Vaccines were supposed to be a route out and they really aren’t are they.

They've lowered the deaths this summer considerably.

Livelovebehappy · 19/10/2021 22:44

The NHS won’t be swamped if people get vaccinated. The people who need to be hospitalised are those that aren’t getting vaccinated. So I know who i will be blaming if we go back into lockdown, and it won’t be the government this time.
