And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

OP posts:
TheVolturi · 19/10/2021 22:10

I really really don't think it will happen, even if the death toll rises to double what it is now. We will keep going because that's what the British do, apparently!

IncessantNameChanger · 19/10/2021 22:13

I could almost schools might shut ( please God no) but furlough? Not a chance in hell. So with that in mind, no. Shut shops and hospitality with no support? Goodbye retail, goodbye hospitality and goodbye economy.

How could it possibly ever work?

mumwon · 19/10/2021 22:13

Stagecoach bus routes in East Anglia have along list of cancelled times on routes & changes -they say its called by staff illness
Although it could be that some drivers have left (Brexit) or have decided to become truck drivers (extra money)
I would say that bus drivers in our area are more likely to come into contact with covid/flu/numerous other viruses & bacterial infections
(I was looking up timetable)

RobinsReliant · 19/10/2021 22:13

No. There’s a Plan B. Plan B would have to be implemented before any other measures are even considered.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/10/2021 22:15

Also closing for half term? It's already half term for a lot of kids. A lot of those will be on holidays too. So a tad too late

bluetuesdayy · 19/10/2021 22:15

@Flaxmeadow you are always spouting this.

When we were told this? And how long did they say it would last for? You've misremembered.

BoredZelda · 19/10/2021 22:16

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: some people really, really don’t want this to end…

Not sure why you’d be proud of being consistently wrong…

Unsure33 · 19/10/2021 22:17

I think if our death rate is higher than Europe we need to have a look at what they are doing .

For example in one European country you have a green pass if vaccinated and if you want to work without being double vaccinated you have to take daily LFT test . If you refuse your job is kept open but you are not paid .

So if you hear about shortage of products don’t blame brexit because this is a fact and production leadtimes are very long .

Eloise12 · 19/10/2021 22:18

I used to think they would never order another lockdown, now I am not so sure & it is not just because of Covid. The Flu most likely will be bad this winter & vaccination for any reason seems slow atm.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 22:20

No I hope not anyway.

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 22:21

So if you hear about shortage of products don’t blame brexit Well, I think we should still blame Brexit for the problems that are caused by Brexit - you can't just cover all of that shit up underneath Covid too, however much Mr Johnson might hope to do so Grin

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 19/10/2021 22:22

Wouldn't be surprised but I can't see anyone complying with it again.

They've used up all the tolerance and goodwill on the last 4 lockdowns.

HesterShaw1 · 19/10/2021 22:23

No we're not

I understand that the British population has been deliberately traumatised and panicked, and that they have been conditioned into thinking that "lockdown" is an acceptable response to a virus, but really I wish people would stop posting shit like this 😡

etopp · 19/10/2021 22:24

No, because there is no money to pay for another lockdown, and because enough people have (I hope) seen what a catastrophe it was all the other times. Only the furloughed seem to have been in favour in the first place, and it there were another lockdown with no furlough, they might be less keen to adhere to it unless they have such massive savings reserves that they don't actually need to earn a living.

WinnieMac · 19/10/2021 22:26

@PurpleEchoLamp

Most of the kids at my school are vaccinated, but only in the past week. We've got huge swathes if students out at the moment, I feel that if we closed now for half term, we've got a chance of nipping it in the bud.
No, I don't think so. I think most teenagers are planning to spend half term going to clubs, parties etc. I don't think they're planning to stay at home, playing at lockdown.

Our death rate is higher than a lot of Europe's, but that's not something "lockdown" (how I loathe the word) can solve. We need a harder look at ourselves and our attitude to our own health, fitness, diet, exercise and the fact that we keep voting in a party which encourages structural inequality and low taxation.

@MakkaPakkas

BBC News - Covid: No 10 'keeping a close eye' on rising cases www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58973185 You're better off checking the news that seeing what a load of randos think on Mumsnet. My own take is no. I don't think there will be.
Yes because the news and the government have always been so honest, open and upfront about the situation.

No 10 ‘Keeping a close eye’ is code for No10 currently drafting a new furlough scheme and printing the sticker for BJs platform when he address the nation to ‘wfh if you can and avoid gatherings of 6 or more’.

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 22:28

our attitude to our own health, fitness, diet, exercise It is not the fault of ordinary Britons, I am sick of the ordinary public being blamed!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/10/2021 22:28

They'd have to bring back furlough which looks unlikely. Only thing can see changing is maybe bringing back masks and working from home ideally if possible.
I dont see another lockdown being well received. People would carry on mixing indoors in houses anyway.

Mumzoo5070 · 19/10/2021 22:29

I think there will be a lockdown.

We were told this right at the start of the pandemic.
That the situation is serious
That we must prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed, and so we must 'flatten the curve'
That we would probably have 'rolling lockdowns' for 'at least 18 months'.

It is from the very first daily briefings. The ones when scientists used to continue speaking after politicians. Unfortunately some people on mumsnet seem to have not taken any notice or switched off.

All the briefings are available on YouTube I believe

A good reason ordinary Britons are suffering with Covid and the conditions which lead to worse outcomes after contracting Covid more than ordinary people of other European countries, is because we are generally fatter, more unfit and more unhealthy.

Lockdowns don't solve any of that. They make it worse

fedup65356 · 19/10/2021 22:31

No. Most likely case is that masks will become mandatory in enclosed spaces and possibly some social distancing measures, e g. limits on numbers allowed in shops at any one time, but not a full national lockdown. If there is one then the mental health of thousands will take a nosedive.

@Flaxmeadow this was said at the start of the pandemic when no one had any idea a vaccine could be rolled out so quickly.

Stop deliberately scaring people.
