And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

Probably not but you never know 100% ,?

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2021 08:58

This peak is due to school age though

The idea was to do summer older ages before this one

I don’t think it’s wrong yet. If you look at ONS school age is sharp increase and older ages flat.

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2021 08:58

Yet that peak in summer didn’t happen (why do we think? Summer behaviour, people outside more?

Pingdemic. Half of Britain was isolating.

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2021 08:58

It did happen. Look at ONS charts

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2021 08:59

@MarshaBradyo

I think they mean we didn’t hit the 100k cases that was expected.
Bizawit · 20/10/2021 09:00

@OnceuponaRainbow18

I do think something will happen with secondary schools and maybe even primary. They can’t go in as they are. I’m currently the only one left standing in my inclusion department at school and I’m not even being able to do my inclusion work as I keep getting drafted in elsewhere. Something needs to change- ideally I would say try masks again at school and staggering break/lunch and no assemblies! Oh and also stop 100s of extra walking through maskless on a tour during the teaching day!
Oh no the world is about to collapse 😱. We only have 1 member of inclusion staff at school for a few days, and unable to do their inclusion work..! better immediately surrender all our civil rights, freedoms and dignities . and after all who needs education, mental health, (health services in general), community, leisure , jobs and family. 🤷🏼‍♀️
MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2021 09:01

I don’t think it had to do that just that it could

We reached 50k? At highest

Then steady

But more importantly is what ONS is showing which is sharp spike in teens and flat in other, even down in early twenties

knittingaddict · 20/10/2021 09:03

@SaveWaterDrinkGin

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: some people really, really don’t want this to end…
What a meaningless comment.

I deserately want this to end. That doesn't mean that I'm not concerned about higher cases, potential for variants, pressure on the NHS during winter months and no mitigation at all.

Don't think there will be another lockdown though, even if it did need doing.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 20/10/2021 09:05

@Waxonwaxoff0
People won’t have a choice. I agree that many will ignore decisions to keep away from friends and family but if the government closes schools, brings back restrictions on numbers going into shops, reintroduces mask wearing, you really had no potion but to comply. When it comes to it, very few people dare to break the law - and they can’t anyway if businesses are ordered to close .

‘Plan B’ or whatever new name they will give restrictions is unlikely to be full on everywhere in the country but I think it will be regional and targeted. The government doesn’t want to do it but it may have to for short periods of time.

I agree the NHS isn’t fit for purpose but unless we raise taxes even higher (and how much higher) what can we do?

Of course people have a choice whether to wear a mask, plenty never bothered when they were a legal requirement.

There will be a revolt if schools close again.

TeloMere · 20/10/2021 09:09

It's pointless asking this question. M'netters don't have inside knowledge, they just say what they hope will happen.

Remmy123 · 20/10/2021 09:09

Closing schools shouid never ever happen again it's has been incredibly detrimental to my two children's learning and physical development (not playing football) Ive had to pay for tutors and physio for one of my boys so he can't play football again!!

bluetuesdayy · 20/10/2021 09:10

@TeloMere depressing how many are frothing at the mouth for a full lockdown

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/10/2021 09:10

And we wouldn't need higher taxes if the ones we pay now were used properly.

Echo40 · 20/10/2021 09:10

Plan b
Lockdown I guess would be plan c.

Would they try localised Lockdowns first?
I am really concerned for the south west
Such a steep rise due to PCR fiasco this been swept under the carpet.

TheKeatingFive · 20/10/2021 09:12

Schools closing are an absolute last resort and have been since this time last year. Everything closes before they do.

FinallySomeNormality · 20/10/2021 09:14

Nope - Honestly can't see another proper lockdown occurring here.

However, of course there could still be localised school closures based on limited staffing numbers or outbreaks. But that's the same thing that's happening right now anyway.

At best, I think the gov will just politely recommend wearing masks in public again....I can't see them even making it a mandatory requirement! Maybe also recommending WFH over winter months... again, don't think they'll make this a legal requirement either.

trumpisagit · 20/10/2021 09:17

@FinallySomeNormality
I would love to think that schools closing is a last resort, but it's already happening.
I know of private and state schools that gone online "until half term".
Hopefully that is a localised problem, but I am cross while pubs and nightclubs are open my children can't go to school.

Tal45 · 20/10/2021 09:18

Mask wearing and covid passes for large gatherings certainly, but I can't see lockdown happening again. TBH I don't understand why masks and covid passes for large gathering wouldn't be happening, it's so simple and maybe our numbers would be more like the rest of Europe's then instead of sky high. On Tuesday we had the highest number of deaths since March, I just don't understand why we wouldn't put some simple things in place to stop the spread. But Boris is an incompetent prat so there we are.

Lovealovestory · 20/10/2021 09:19

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-response-autumn-and-winter-plan-2021

It's all in there towards the end

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 20/10/2021 09:20

If deaths go up enough they probably will. What that number is though is anyone's guess.

Yes we did really well in the south west for such a long time and now it is awful.
LillianGish · 20/10/2021 09:27

Britain could do worse than look at what they are doing in Europe with vaccine passports and masks. Fewer deaths and lower rates of infection. Part of me wonders if Johnson actually wants the chaos to continue in the UK so he can continue to use the pandemic as a smokescreen for the effects of Brexit. That certainly what it looks like when viewed from the other side of the Channel.

toolatetooearly · 20/10/2021 09:28

Of course there won't be another lockdown. Absolutely no way. Masks, WFH, passports maybe, but no Jan-March style lockdown. I'll give you all £100 each if there is, I'm that certain!

Blinkingbatshit · 20/10/2021 09:29

I don’t reckon we’ll get a full lockdown but to be fair it’s all anyone’s guess🤷🏼‍♀️…..I don’t reckon even Boris knows what he’s planning to do one day to the next so it’s a bit pointless second guessing!! But I do think the nay sayers should maybe look back at the history of these threads…..does no one remember the mocking of those anticipating the first lockdown, when funnily enough they turned out to be right?! No one is gleefully rubbing their hands - people are just trying to prepare themselves for what may come…not everyone lives on an as & when basis.
