LF test and PCR test

Positive LF test yesterday. Went for PCR. Has just come back negative. No symptoms. I assume I just carry on my merry way and ignore the LF result?

Aparantly so. Are you in the SW of England?

GoodnightGrandma · 10/10/2021 14:25

Yep.

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 14:32

No, London. It was one of the newer tests that you just do in your nose. Strong second line.

Technically yes but a false positive on LFT is very rare. There are a lot of reports of false negative PCRs at the moment. Personally I would assume its covid. You can do another PCR again in a few days to check.

I agree with this. If at all possible i'd be isolating as it's very likely you have Covid.
TLIMSISNW · 10/10/2021 14:36

My DD had 3 positive LFTs and 2 negative PCRs. I’ve heard of quite a few people it’s happened to since.

Really weird.

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 14:41

Oh. Just been to see my elderly mother as assumed ok. What shall I do? Another PCR and LF?

Hopefully it's all fine but yeah I'd get another PCR test.
BluebellsGreenbells · 10/10/2021 14:44

Try another LFT

Then a PCR in a couple of days - what is your work policy on tests?

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 14:48

I’m a teacher so regular lateral flows anyway. Mmmm, wonder if I should go to work or not? Why does it have to be so confusing?!

BlanketPiggy · 10/10/2021 14:53

I think gov and my work place say yes but my head says "of course not don't be silly"

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 14:55

I am the head 😂😂

Now this is going bit crazy. Have done two of the new up the nose LF tests and both are positive. Done one nose and throat LF test and it’s negative, and a negative PCR. How am I suppose to interpret that 🤷‍♀️

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 15:00

That’s definitely positive isn’t it??

Haha I meant my brain!

Yeah! Omg that's so weird. Maybe you only have covid up your nose?
SquashedFlyBiscuits · 10/10/2021 15:03

False positive rate for lfds is approx 1/1000. Do a second lfd (from a different box if possible to rule out a dodgy batch) and if positive then 2nd pcr and isolate. If no symptoms and 2nd lfd negative then assume you are the 1 in a 1000 and carry on as normal but do a daily lfd for the next few days just incase and distance from other staff at school (especially dsls/slt) just incase.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 10/10/2021 15:04

*Cross post, sorry.

Definitely 2nd pcr but if that is negative and no symptoms then go in to work as normal

It's a confusing thing at the moment

ChimChimeny · 10/10/2021 15:05

So random!

Personally I'd assume I had covid and have another PCR in a couple of days (and maybe just swab your nose Grin )

Showchin2 · 10/10/2021 15:06

Same thing happened to ds (12). No symptoms and only positive on the new lfts. Old lfts all negative (he has now done 5 of each). He's isolating and waiting for PCR results. Very bored and still completely asymptomatic 4 days in!

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 15:10

That’s very funny @BlanketPiggy 😂😂

All too confusing. Maybe I’ll just go and do another PCR now to be sure.

DB took a week before he tested positive on a LFT and PCR.

drpaddington · 10/10/2021 15:15

I read an article the other day that said they're seeing lots of this- positive LFT's then a negative PCR- so they advised people to assume it's covid despite the negative PCR and isolate anyway. It seems that many people (not all) were then getting a positive PCR a few days later.

Yellowmellow2 · 10/10/2021 15:20

But I’m only getting positive on the up the nose tests (twice), not the nose and throat test which are negative (twice) 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
