Lots of cars coming out of the test centre

Went shopping yesterday and there is a Covid testing site opposite. There was a constant stream of cars coming out, more than in lock down.
I’m just a bit shocked at it.

Lots of Covid around. Also lots of other nasty viruses around. In my family of 5 we’ve had 6 PCR’s over the past month or so as we’ve all had symptoms of a bad cold, all negative.

Thewiseoneincognito · 03/10/2021 08:39

Watching the behaviour of the general public right now and it’s no surprise there was a stream of cars. People have started to forget the relevance of mitigation’s, now it’s getting colder we’re going to see an uptick. Hope everyone’s ready for the long slog to Christmas…

1 in 20 secondary aged pupils are infected, of course testing sites will be busy.

PaperDolphin · 03/10/2021 08:41

You know they actually publish this data daily? You don't need to sit outside test centres or hospitals counting cars 🤣

The 'general public' aren't massively infected with covid, school kids are.

@Bedsheets4knickers

Everyone I know has a cold right now
This. I’m on my 3rd in six weeks.

Also some schools are now insisting that entire year groups and classes go and get tested before going back in
Newoneagain20 · 03/10/2021 09:09

Most people I know have a cold - me included!! With a bad cough PCR done (more than once) all negative. I only know one y7 child having covid all the rest of the household double jabbed no one else got it…but the amount of people I know with this cold & due to the panic around covid have taken PCR tested all negative.

sartorius · 03/10/2021 09:15

It's the "back to school" wave.
We had the same in Scotland 3-4 weeks ago, some of highest rates in Europe but they were mostly in under 19s
Our rates are now steadily dropping as the kids have now all had covid Hmm

HungryHippo11 · 03/10/2021 09:20

Most of those people won't have covid though, they've just got a cold and are testing to be sure. If you're worried about covid its actually a good sign that there are lots of people going to the test centres as they're being careful.

The current test positive rate is 3.6% so 96.4% of the people in that stream of cars will test negative

MaudLively · 03/10/2021 09:21

We have a dc who is currently positive and isolating. The test centre was very busy when we went. Test and trace also told me numbers are really high in schools right now.

So, I'm not surprised there's a stream of cars leaving test centres. There's nothing in place to stop the spread... so Covid is spreading. 30,000+ each day are testing positive.

HungryHippo11 · 03/10/2021 09:22

Also the new advice is that close contacts take a test rather than isolate, so many of those people won't have symptoms but were just a close contact. I wouldn't be surprised if Saturday is the busiest day for those "close contact" tests as you wouldn't have to take a day off work while waiting for the result.

MaudLively · 03/10/2021 09:24

Also, numbers in our secondary school rose from 15 cases to 75 in a week!

Jigsawprison · 03/10/2021 09:33

A couple of weekends ago our school asked every child and member of staff to be tested over weekend (following discussions with phe and council) could it be something like a local outbreak where they're testing on mass?
Also lots of other viruses etc going around which have similar symptoms.

Dutchesss · 03/10/2021 09:36

I think that more people are willing to test now because of the change in isolation rules. People were worried to test before because of taking out a whole class or workplace. Way more people are testing for mild symptoms now and close contacts can also test.

mafted · 03/10/2021 09:37

It's not surprising, people seem to be full of cold since the children started back at school.
Having said that DC3 had a test last week after being sent home from school with a sore throat and a temperature and we were the only ones in the test centre, we caught the guy on the door spinning around in his wheely chair he apologised and said it was really quiet.

TheatricalGiraffe · 03/10/2021 09:40

There is something horrific going around which matches covid symptoms...
I've spent the last few days with COVID symptoms (temp, headache, cough that leaves me unable to breath and feels like my lungs are exploding, tight chest, ect).

I was lucky as my PCR came back (Negative) within 24 hours but if it hadn't I would've driven to one of those test sites to check...

Better them driving in their own private car than getting public transport/strolling through the shopping centre spreading germs (covid or no covid) surely?

Bobholll · 03/10/2021 09:52

Yes @Thewiseoneincognito - I’m ready for the many upcoming birthday parties my eldest has, Halloween parties, trick or treating, bonfire night, my birthday night away at a spa with my friends, a weekend in London with my husband. I can’t wait for the messy play classes I’ve just booked for my toddler next term, art class with my eldest & our swimming lessons. & I can’t wait to go see Santa 😁 I’m ready for the slog to Christmas 🙌🏼

This is a weird thread. Covid cases are pretty high, what do you expect OP? I’ve been to the test centre about 5 times since August, my kids constantly have colds & coughs & then kindly pass them on us! It’s never been covid but I do test if we are coughing.

Bowtie292 · 03/10/2021 09:58

We're in Shropshire and it's spreading through the schools at a terrific rate, 25% of kids have it.

anniegun · 03/10/2021 09:59

Its because there is a covid pandemic. have you forgotten?

Quartz2208 · 03/10/2021 10:02

Covid is still fairly rife and the mitigations we put in place suppressed other viruses which are now coming out to play.

There are at least 2 or 3 going round, one covid and a couple not - it all needs testing to ensure which is which

As it happens data shows it is starting to slow now

Bennetgirl · 03/10/2021 10:07

Our tests centres have been the busiest I've seen them. I think it's mainly kids who have the other virus going round. We all have it now.

Dd1 is off for one today. She can't smell today and has had the same as dd2 (who tested negative on pcr last week). I'll be interested to see if dd1 is negative as well.

nc890 · 03/10/2021 14:26

I went for my booster at a pharmacy. Was shocked too it was also being used as a testing centre Confused, with all the people walking through the same small indoor space.
Can't possibly think what could go wrong with that scenario Hmm

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/10/2021 15:24

@Mybalconyiscracking

Ooh, I KNOW!

Isn’t if AWFUL?

@Mybalconyiscracking I just laughed hard at this. Thank you.
Fallagain · 03/10/2021 15:51

It’s cold season. Of course more people are testing, they have colds have a huge cross over of symptoms with covid.
