Lots of cars coming out of the test centre

Went shopping yesterday and there is a Covid testing site opposite. There was a constant stream of cars coming out, more than in lock down.
I’m just a bit shocked at it.

Ooh, I KNOW!

Isn’t if AWFUL?

sashagabadon · 03/10/2021 07:46

Might be boosters? That kicks off about now and lots of the previous places have closed.

Starlightstarbright1 · 03/10/2021 07:47

I am taking my ds for a pcr today. Lots of the closest test centres have shut so the ones remaining open will be busier

GoodnightGrandma · 03/10/2021 07:48

There wasn’t a sign for boosters, just the original testing site signs, and it is a testing site. It’s not closed.
I hope it is boosters and not tests, or it’s worrying !

Op is taking about a test centre, not as vaccination centre. Unless these are the same some places? IME they are different places.

But there is a lot of covid about… what do you expect? It’s also cold season so I imagine people are double checking it’s not Covid

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 03/10/2021 07:49

Lots of sites have been shut down so I imagine the remaining ones are busier. No great conspiracy or need to panic.

Bedsheets4knickers · 03/10/2021 07:50

Everyone I know has a cold right now

EffOrf · 03/10/2021 07:51

Probably most of Mumsnet that seems obsessed with constantly testing

lannistunut · 03/10/2021 07:51

Covid is out of control in the UK, the deniers have the ear of government, so I think this is just how it is for us.

They'll scrap testing in spring then the idiots anti scientific can pretend it was all a dream.

Gizlotsmum · 03/10/2021 07:51

Lots of testing going on with schools returning and colds doing the rounds, got a test for Daughter as she is a close contact and had shortness of breath, I have cold symptoms but will get a test as needed to be sure for work. I suspect many others are doing the same

PermanentTemporary · 03/10/2021 07:52

It's flying around schools and also lots of colds popping up.

Ds and I have just had it, friend across the country has just had it with both her girls. My mum's just gone into hospital unwell, not sure yet what it is. This is winter.

ComDummings · 03/10/2021 07:53

Pretty much everyone I know has a cold at the moment so I think there will be more testing due to back to school germs (which could be covid, or just a generic cold)

elf81 · 03/10/2021 07:54

There’s a bad cold going round that seems to have similar symptoms to covid. I know a lot of people that have had symptoms lately and have received a negative test. Also don’t forget if you are a close contact with someone they recommend a test now so that may have put the numbers up. Someone in my little boys class had a positive result so pretty much everyone in the class went for a test. That’s 30 kids all off to the same test centre. Only 1 other came back positive.

HairyFloppins · 03/10/2021 07:55

The test centre was packed the other week when we took dd. Hers was negative just this yukky bug going around.

wonderpants · 03/10/2021 07:56

We are the highest rate we've ever been in our borough. Nearly 600 per 100,000.
Those tests have been done somewhere!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/10/2021 07:56

Around here school children need a test for any illness. Headaches, sore throats, nausea, tummy ache, coughs, runny noses etc. Due to number of cases in schools. Then any sibling if its positive.

It is picking up the very mild cases though.

ThesecondLEM · 03/10/2021 07:56

Lots of people getting cold viruses now, especially as we are not living aseptic anymore. They have covid symptoms so results in more tests. It is good that folk are testing. My dd has recently had two pcrs as she had such a horrible cold. Both negative

EileenGC · 03/10/2021 08:03

Well, the incidence in England only is still close to 400, which is A LOT. So naturally there have been many people going for tests and testing positive.

Less people are dying, yes, but it doesn’t mean that 400 should be an acceptable incidence to aim to maintain. Where I live we got to 220-230 at the height of winter last year, and the government deemed it ‘unacceptable’. For comparison, the UK stayed at 800-900 for a few weeks. There is no reason not to be under 100, which is where most European countries with similar density and vaccination rates are.

I need to travel to the UK in a few days and I’m not looking forward to being on multiple trains, buses and in crowded places with unmasked people + such a high incidence. There is a lot of Covid around, I have too many friends who have either been positive or a close contact of someone positive, in the last few weeks. Problem is, most people now behave like it doesn’t exist at all... Hence the high cases.

DeathMetalMum · 03/10/2021 08:08

Both my dc have needed a test this week, both negative. I was speaking to one of the teachers at school and their dc have also needed tests, again negative results. There are a lot of colds going around at the moment.

Yes because most of Mumsnet live in the same area.
noblegiraffe · 03/10/2021 08:19

1 in 20 secondary kids currently have covid. As Chris Whitty said, it's a near certainty that they'll all get it unless vaccinated, and it's a bit late for that now.

Greyrootszerohoots · 03/10/2021 08:26

Lots of horrible colds going round - be glad people are being cautious and taking tests. You can check cases online in your local area if you’re concerned.

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2021 08:30

Lots of covid going around.

Longdistance · 03/10/2021 08:33

People are testing for coughs and colds. I work in a school and parents are keeping their kids off when ill and getting them testing in case it is Covid. Sensible approach.
