Are people no longer bothered by Covid….?

Is anyone actually bothered about Covid?
From places I’ve been recently, everyone is just “normal”

I took my son to a toddler class this morning.

I walked in wearing my mask. Room full of 19 other adults and their toddlers.

Not one single adult had a mask on (expect me)
There was no distancing in the class.
It was as normal as normal can be.

I joined a new slimming class tonight.

Again I walked in wearing a mask. No one else had one on.
All chairs pushed up together, people sat close.

I don’t get it.

How can we go from distancing, mask wearing, avoiding people on walks (which is exactly what it was like) to nothing….

@Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay

I’m very bothered OP.

I have a CEV household member who won’t have developed full immunity, despite being vaccinated, and wouldn’t stand a chance if they caught Covid.

Would they stand a chance if they got any other sort of virus / flu or just covid?
Winecurestiredness · 30/09/2021 19:33

you're lucky you dont have a teenager yet because College/uni is worse. This generation of young adults have missed out on so much due to COVID. personally as a mother and a mature student with a compromised immune system, i have been fine, im double jabbed and just want enjoy life again. Before COVID, i had blood cancer and i dont know why but i really wasnt scared of COVID....to put things in perspective, you only get one life, and if we spend it in fear we waste big portions of it.

ilovesooty · 30/09/2021 19:34

Still wearing one in supermarkets and on public transport.

I've eaten out, been out for a drink and been to the theatre.

BitterTits · 30/09/2021 19:34

I have 300 teenagers in my classroom per week. Although masks are required due to rising case, I'm not allowed to enforce it and hardly anyone does. There have been several positive cases in each class and all close contacts are still in.

I can't afford to be bothered by Covid.

lanbro · 30/09/2021 19:35

I'm not bothered, my dc are obviously in school, I've been working the whole time in a public facing role, I'm double vaccinated and I want to get on with life. I respect anyone who still wants to wear a mask but I won't unless I absolutely have to (transport, hospital etc)

Jduh · 30/09/2021 19:35

I'm not really anxious about me catching it. I do still wear a mask in most places so others who are anxious can feel a bit more comfortable. Mask wearing doesn't really bother me.

yellowgingham · 30/09/2021 19:36

I never really think about it. I was never particularly bothered about catching it though (although I followed the rules).

A friend said to me the other day that she was worried about going to the theatre and I had to stop and think what she meant. I thought at first she was worried about the cost!

musicalfrog · 30/09/2021 19:36

Today was my first time in a supermarket maskless (I tend to follow the crowd and most people weren't wearing them today). It felt so good! It's inevitable we'll all catch it some day, just a matter of when. Every day I don't have it is a bonus.

I do have to wear one at work though - healthcare setting. That's quite enough for me tbh.

MysteriousMonkey · 30/09/2021 19:37

No am no longer wearing a mask and am back to normal as much as possible

Alpenguin · 30/09/2021 19:37

I’m bothering. I’m CEV I bother about colds and flu too because even a simple cold could put me in hospital and I could risk death from complications. I’m now told to shut up and stay home if I don’t like it. Then of course if I try to do that I get abused for being a scrounged who doesn’t contribute to or participate in society. Can’t fucking win.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/09/2021 19:38

Went to pharmacy today to pick up prescription. 2 in shop at a time, queue 1-2m apart outside, no masks while waiting, had a chat with the lady in queue ahead of me. Staff wearing masks. Popped on mask while I was inside for a couple of minutes.

No big deal really, doesnt impact "my life" in any significant way.

Confitgras · 30/09/2021 19:39

In France (rural-ish Provence), everyone wears a mask indoors, all of the time. Many masks outdoors as well.

Many people I speak with find the UK inexplicable. More deaths than virtually anywhere else, and the most laissez-faire attitude to it.

Thomasina79 · 30/09/2021 19:40

My adult son has just come out of hospital for a serious operation. Everyone, but everyone had to wear a mask, sanitise hands and had to take their temperature before coming on the ward. Contact details had to be left. So hospitals are taking it very, very seriously. I also work in an NHS setting, not hospital. We have to wear a mask in the communal areas, or be up for disciplinary measures. We don’t have to wear one at our desks though. I am not a medic btw, I am admin.

If the medics are taking it seriously shouldn’t the general public?

BrilloPaddy · 30/09/2021 19:40

No longer bothered. Life has to go on, you can't stay quivering in fear of the invisible monster.

Confused10101 · 30/09/2021 19:40

@changingstages I’m the same as you. I lost my dad - 69 years to Covid 30 days back. I could even travel to the funeral due to the country being in lock down

I take every precaution I can and urge my family to do the same. My daughter being at school is a concern but she needs to be there.

I think there is a fine line between living your life and throwing all caution to wind thinking ‘well someone else, (the nhs, ambulance services, social care etc) will pick up the prices. I feel the matter is what’s happening- the government blaming the public when things go wrong and the public blaming the government-

Yes we need to live- yes we cannot hide forever from a virus but unfortunately we are (that us the whole world) in the learning stages, what works, how it works is still being debated.

The UKs approach of ‘throwing caution to the wind’ while winter is approaching baffles me. I agree I am a lay person and do not have the knowledge or expertise but:

18 months of keeping away from everyone would have possibly had an impact on our immune system - winter is a month of bugs

The nhs struggles on long weekends let alone the winter- couple that with Covid not a good mix

We have an incompetent prime minster - the fuel issues, food issues, electricity issues are all on the waiting list along with Covid…

I don’t want to sound all doom and gloom but frankly struggling to see the light as of now…

Comedycook · 30/09/2021 19:40

I was never particularly worried about covid in terms of myself. I went along with all the precautions. I don't bother anymore and no longer wear a mask. Every adult has now had the opportunity to receive both vaccines...that's enough for me to no longer take precautions.

Yogsgirl · 30/09/2021 19:41

I've just had covid- I feel totally liberated now because it wasn't that bad and I'm unlikely to get it again any time soon! Covid is with us for the long term, there'll be another mutation next year and we'll all be getting it again- we can't hide away forever and I'm not prepared to wear a mask for the rest of my life so I'll take the small risk.

Confused10101 · 30/09/2021 19:41

*couldn’t travel

Mythologies · 30/09/2021 19:43

I really don't get antimaskers.
Surely as a PP said, we are wearing masks SO WE CAN go out and about freely. And yes I am adding the capital letters too.
Keep your bugs - especially Covid - to yourselves!

M4J4 · 30/09/2021 19:44

The masks were never proved as effective though.

If they were proved effective then more people would wear them.

Why are you wearing your mask, OP?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/09/2021 19:44

I couldn’t care less anymore- enough is enough- we as a society have a shit load bigger problems than covid

inmyslippers · 30/09/2021 19:44

No

KingsleyShacklebolt · 30/09/2021 19:45

I'm no longer bothered. To be honest, apart from about 10 days in March 2020, I've never been that bothered.

I wear my mask - reluctantly - in Scotland because it's the law that you have to. Going to England for a week soon and won't be. Not sanitising shopping, not sanitising trolleys, not doing LFT tests, seeing people as I have always done.

Kettletoaster · 30/09/2021 19:45

I’ve strictly adhered to all the guidance throughout. I’m now of the view that if I’m going to get it, I’d rather get it now whilst my vaccine protection is still strong. So no, I’m not bothered now and I’m almost back to normal. I’m still wearing masks in shops (mainly to protect others not myself) and at work (NHS - so I have to wear PPE), but other than that things feel normal. For now. Who knows what winter will bring.

junebirthdaygirl · 30/09/2021 19:46

I have Covid at the moment. Fully vaccinated but still got quite a dose. Flattened in bed for at least 5 days. Still tired and sleeping extra. Pretty much like a bad flu. Wasn't particularly careless but was getting on with life. Picked it up in a social setting along with at least 5 other people. Some got sicker than others. I was mostly concerned immediately that l had passed it on to someone vulnerable.
