Are people no longer bothered by Covid….?

Is anyone actually bothered about Covid?
From places I’ve been recently, everyone is just “normal”

I took my son to a toddler class this morning.

I walked in wearing my mask. Room full of 19 other adults and their toddlers.

Not one single adult had a mask on (expect me)
There was no distancing in the class.
It was as normal as normal can be.

I joined a new slimming class tonight.

Again I walked in wearing a mask. No one else had one on.
All chairs pushed up together, people sat close.

I don’t get it.

How can we go from distancing, mask wearing, avoiding people on walks (which is exactly what it was like) to nothing….

You can't be that bothered if you're going to a toddle group, they're absolute germ tests!

catfunk · 30/09/2021 20:05

*fests

Well yes I am bothered about covid in the sense that I have CEV loved ones. But the thread title just makes me think about how I was feeling this time last year, which was “is no one bothered about PND any more?”
Because no one gave a shit about that and the impact on my children. I didn’t expect anyone to care, which was a good job really. But when people say things like “children need their parents alive and well” in relation to covid, i do remember how little anyone cared about that in relation to PND, undiagnosed and exacerbated by lockdowns and restrictions

kristplankook · 30/09/2021 20:08

I was wearing a mask still and finding no one else was. Seeing as mask wearing is not to protect the wearer but everyone else I got pissed off so stopped bothering!

Still wear in supermarket and when I go to a cafe until sit down and in places that request we still do.

TertiusLydgate · 30/09/2021 20:09

Apart from a check-up at the dentist where I wore a mask in the reception, I haven't worn one since they were made optional.

LucyGrey · 30/09/2021 20:09

No.
Do the vaccines not work then?

Antinerak · 30/09/2021 20:10

People on this thread prove that as long as they're okay, no one else matters. "Everyone who can and wants to be jabbed is" that bullshit is still going around then?

If everyone in England took their head out of their arse for just a moment, they'd realise why being so proudly maskless and ignorant to what damage covid does is so damaging.

LucyGrey · 30/09/2021 20:10

@DoesHePlayTheFiddle

I still wear mine. People stare.
Not surprised. Jeez.

This is true. In April last year I had a serious health scare and I couldn’t get a GP to see me face to face for months. I remember thinking ‘does no one care about anything except Covid anymore?’.
SpottyPhone · 30/09/2021 20:11

I'm only wearing my mask in hospitals, the GP, Chemist and at school where it's mandatory. Otherwise I'm not bothering.

I'm double vaccinated, what more can I do?

PufferFishGoneWrong · 30/09/2021 20:11

I have never been bothered and frankly don't give a damn anymore.

Can't bloody wait for masks to be optional in Scotland.

Suddenlyfamily5 · 30/09/2021 20:12

I am, and most of my friends are. Still wearing masks, using hand sanitizer and keeping a distance. But rates are really high where we are.

OrangeTortoise · 30/09/2021 20:13

I said to my DS tonight ".... because of Covid" and he said "since when is anyone still bothered about Covid?" Grin

PufferFishGoneWrong · 30/09/2021 20:13

@lovelyupnorth

Never did care about corona virus really.

Had my jabs followed the rules for others benefits. But it’s never remotely worried me.

This exactly.

Only did rules of others, not for my benefit.

XingMing · 30/09/2021 20:13

I think it's partly age and health related. I know thanks to a diagnosis of breast cancer that I will continue wearing a mask shopping and sanitising, especially as I embark on chemo, if necessary. And so will most of the people I know, but we are mostly 50+ anyway. And many of us have very elderly parents. My DM at 87 is double jabbed, flu jabbed and booked in for her COVID booster already.

If you had asked me the same question 12 months ago, I might have given you a different answer.

NotMyCat · 30/09/2021 20:15

@LucyGrey why Jeez? Some of us will still be wearing medical grade masks to protect ourselves
I mean think about it - people with blood cancers etc, who the vaccine hasn't worked for and are still at huge risk

HungryHippo11 · 30/09/2021 20:15

Yeah I don't really care.
Both my kids have had it. Husband and i (and everyone we know) has had 2 vaccines.

I wear a mask on public transport as I don't want other people to feel uncomfortable. Most people wear them on the buses in my local town. On the train its about 20% wearing masks. I went on the tube in London recently and it was about 50% wearing masks (despite signs saying you must wear one).

I for one am very glad that toddler groups and classes are back to normal. My 18 month old needs to interact with others in a normal way, not sitting at a table 2m away from other toddlers.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/09/2021 20:16

Nope. Not bothered about it any more and never was to be honest. I had it last month and as expected it was no worse than a cold. I used to wear masks to protect others but now all adults have been offered vaccines I'm not doing that any more. This is life now, Covid is not going away and we are as protected as we're going to get.

Kiduknot · 30/09/2021 20:16

I’m currently working in a small stuffy classroom with another staff member whose adult son has just tested positive. Just waiting for her to be positive…
It’s just a matter of time until I get it again from someone or another. I caught it at school this time last year too.

I’m bothered by it, but sort of resigned. I’m more worried about passing it on to my elderly parents.

Tulipomania · 30/09/2021 20:17

Still wearing my mask.

I know several double-jabbed people who have had Covid since, including a close member of my family.

I don't want to catch it.

Peanutsandchilli · 30/09/2021 20:18

No, my child has just started reception and took a while to settle. She's been slightly sniffly from the get go with the typical back to school bug. A few days ago she was coughing so much that she was almost sick, so I kept her off school. Of course, she now can't go back without a bloody pcr. I posted it over two days ago and am still waiting for a result. My child is not ill anymore and I'm fucked off, because now it'll take more time for her to resettle into class and the more time she's off, the worse it'll get. Covid is thoroughly pissing me off now.

Aposterhasnoname · 30/09/2021 20:18

Nope, not bothered here , but then I never have been. So glad to see everything getting back to normal at last.

PompomDahlia · 30/09/2021 20:19

I'm still wearing masks in shops, still doing lots of hand-washing and sanitising - it's an easy thing for me to do. But then I think masks make sense on public transport anyway, regardless of Covid - the Tube is such a germ box in the winter when everyone is squashed in and I used to hate picking up a couple of bad cold bugs a year that would knock me sideways for 10 days each.

I do have moments of thinking 'we just need to get on and live with it' then I'll hear a sobering story and decide that if I can do small things to lessen the risk then why not.

Pixxie7 · 30/09/2021 20:20

I think you are right, although it’s great to see people getting on with their lives. However the daily number of cases and deaths seem to have become meaningless.

FluffyTeddyBear · 30/09/2021 20:20

I agree OP. It feels nice to be normal but equally I think it’s mental.
