Is covid ripping through your school?

Both schools my DC attend and the school
I work at now have numerous covid cases for the first time!!! Is it just inevitable
that under the current guidelines, all these kids are going to get covid? The staff feel like ticking times bombs despite being vaccinated.
Like many establishments, we have newly
of staff, vulnerable staff, staff with vulnerable family members, very anxious older staff.... It's nerve wracking waiting for it to hit!

No, only a handful. Big school

screwcovid · 20/09/2021 22:01

@CanICelebrate

Many teachers are scared and very poorly- how dare you mock them *@UsedUpUsername*
I agree my partner is a key worker throughout this mixing with crowds of people each day and they never moaned as much as teachers who think they are the only ones at risk jeez
CheeseTiger · 20/09/2021 22:09

@screwcovid

Ridiculously stupid comment. Many key workers and frontline workers have been worried about catching covid, whatever their role. Not just teachers. It’s not moaning it’s normal human concern. People aren’t robots.

It is not a ridiculous comment at all I am back at work with crowds either get on with it or resign !

RenegadeMasterx · 20/09/2021 22:12

Oh yea! Closely followed by an awful virus and a sickness and diarrhoea bug. The joys of mixing again, our kids immune systems are shot to pieces! Confused

cabbageking · 20/09/2021 22:32

We have only had 2 cases.

MLMbotsno · 20/09/2021 23:05

@FlowerBranch

Yup. Over 100 children off with confirmed cases. Somehow only 1 member of staff though!
Maybe vaccinations helped?
Timeisavirtue · 20/09/2021 23:08

Non as of yet.... well either that or they’ve stopped mentioning it...

TheMadGardener · 20/09/2021 23:12

Yes. I work in a very large but rural primary. From the start of Covid until July 2021 we'd only had about four pupils who tested positive. Since last week we've had over 40 pupils and several staff test positive - one class has 7 cases. Also two staff off looking after toddlers/pre-schoolers who have tested positive. Seems to be spreading really fast in school now. This is since we got rid of bubbles and children returned to eating in dinner hall and mixed-class playtimes. I'm vaccinated but paranoid - testing regularly and crossing fingers!

CallmeHendricks · 20/09/2021 23:22

"I am back at work with crowds"

Well done you. Back just now? What have you been doing for the last 20 months then (whilst school staff have been busy "working with crowds")?

CallmeHendricks · 20/09/2021 23:24

All those saying there's no/little Covid in their schools, you do know that Covid cases aren't marked as such on SIMs anymore? It's just coded 'I' for Illness. So you wouldn't necessarily know.

justasking111 · 20/09/2021 23:26

Living in a tourist area of Wales our cases were high all summer, in the counties they're now dropping. Whereas non tourism counties lower all summer but rising in the last couple of weeks. Covid is determined to have its way it seems

Sarcobaleno · 20/09/2021 23:29

Yes. In my school and my kids'. It's now a case of when not if.

blameitonthecaffeine · 20/09/2021 23:38

No, weirdly.

I caught it 3 days into term (so assume I was infected out of school before term started) and had been sat with 100 other staff in the school hall for 2 days of inset training. But not a single other person caught it from me. And, as far as we know, no children that I taught in the first few days caught it either. I had barely any symptoms (very mild cold) so I don't know if that reduces the spread but it's really made me question how catching this thing really is.

Since then, one of the cleaners has had it and 2 staff have missed one day to get a PCR due to symptoms but have tested negative. A couple of children have gone home ill but have come back within a day or so so I assume don't have it (though they could do).

There aren't many other illnesses that would have loads of kids staying off for 10 days straight though.

PurpleOkapi · 20/09/2021 23:52

Of course they're all going to get covid, just like they all get whatever seasonal crud is going around every other year. Why would anyone have expected otherwise?

motherrunner · 21/09/2021 04:55

On my SIMS I’m still seeing pupils marked with the X code.

MrsHookey · 21/09/2021 04:59

No idea. The silence is deafening from school. School has implemented assemblies with 240 people in a hall, twice a week. I'm off sick as is DD. DD doesn't have the conventional covid official 3 symptoms so I was told to send her in last week. Awaiting a PCR test.

The head emails us to tell us about Covid cases to ensure we stay vigiliant.

It’s a small school class size is 15-20. When pupils or teachers are off it is noticed.

So I can confidently say, no Covid or at least no symptomatic / testable covid.

The school does lace a lot of emphasis on being outdoors, and I can count on one hand the number of obese children in the entire school. This may have some influence on the situation.

RunningStrong · 21/09/2021 05:52

No, not where I work. There's a nasty cold/bug doing the rounds but no positive tests so far.

Our school no longer tell everyone except the specific class affected. Yesterday 4 in one of my dcs classes tested positive on LFT, including the teacher and my dc.

toomuchlaundry · 21/09/2021 07:01

@Worldgonecrazy what does being obese have anything to do with having COVID? Yes it can make a difference how ill you get but didn’t think it made a difference on whether you caught it. Many of the young people I know who have caught it are skinny and fit
