Fantastic news. So so pleased.

Blessex · 13/09/2021 15:24

Oh gosh I was only going to get them vaccinated to help with travel. This won’t help with travel as you need two jabs.

Antonia2021 · 13/09/2021 15:25

100% no way

Hope they aren’t gonna try and jab them in school

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2021 15:25

Yep the plans are to vaccinate in schools. (Note, not by school staff).

ohbygolly · 13/09/2021 15:27

Our early teens had their 2nd Covid vaccination this weekend (in Ireland). Whilst the risk for boys getting myocarditis following the vaccine is 1 in 16,000 rather than 1 in 100,000 for girls, what swung it for us was the fact that the risk of myocarditis after Covid was just over 1 in 1,000 for boys.

So far, no side effects, and 2 teens who are feeling better about getting back out there and enjoying themselves with friends.

What is the issue with offering it in schools @Antonia2021?

Doesn't impact your teen if they don't want it, means no missing classes for others. Plenty of vaccination programmes are run in schools.

They will I will just keep my boys off that day so they can’t be pressured into it

Glad the U.K. is finally catching up with other countries. Hopefully less interruptions to schooling.

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 15:39

That article from sky news states

“ Government advisers have said that parents will have the final say when it comes to under-16s”

So that’s something at least .

seems like it'l be in the school "All children in the age group will be offered a first Pfizer jab as soon as possible, with the programme led by in-school vaccination service"

@trumpisagit here's something I was able to find.

HandyGirl76 · 13/09/2021 15:43

@Mojoj

My boys will definitely not be getting it. Children don't need to be vaccinated.
From this or everything?

OMG can you imagine.
TinaYouFatLard · 13/09/2021 15:45

All along they’ve insisted they would follow the advice of the JCVI - until the JCVI don’t tell them what they want to hear.

I honestly don’t know how the hell they are getting away with this.

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 15:46

Exactly we have trusted the JCVI up until now.

Good. Ds who was in the first eligible group might actually get the vaccine. GP is dragging their heels because ds might be difficult to vaccinate. He will need 2 doses though.

trumpisagit · 13/09/2021 15:51

Through a Google search I found an interesting BMJ opinion blog dated 13 July 2021 considering in detail the vaccination of children.

blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/07/13/covid-19-vaccines-for-children-hypothetical-benefits-to-adults-do-not-outweigh-risks-to-children/
Don't know if I can share this link, but it's well written and interesting.

The conclusion is:
There is no need to rush to vaccinate children against covid-19—the vast majority stands little to benefit, and it is ethically dubious to pursue a hypothetical protection of adults while exposing children to harms, known and unknown.

More eloquent than I could put it.

Sirzy · 13/09/2021 15:52

Brilliant. Families can now make the choice that is right for them. I hope people on both sides of the argument respect that families are making their choice for the reasons that work for them and not judge

CeeJay81 · 13/09/2021 15:52

To those saying my child def will or will not be having it. It's actually up to the child, they don't need parental consent. I've not decided. I'd like my son to have it most likely but it'll be his choice.

That’s not what the sky article posted above stated. It says Government advisers have said that parents will have the final say when it comes to under-16s.

Agree entirely.

They are very brave or stupid because if any child suffers catastrophic complications from the vaccine, the press will have an absolute field day and God knows what it will do to public confidence in the government

bagofconkers · 13/09/2021 15:58

But the paragraph below states

"Health Secretary Sajid Javid told Sky News that a child's decision "will prevail" in the case of a conflict."

So children can overrule parents, as is the case now. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/994850/PHE_Greenbook_of_immunisation_chapter_2_consent_18_June21.pdf

The JCVI were not saying the vaccination was unsafe.

sassbott · 13/09/2021 16:00

@Comedycook you think they’ll tell the truth about an adverse reaction from the vaccine? Pffft.
