To be livid with the government

They are Cowards. Dropping plans for a vaccine passport which would have kept us all safe but after some pushback from the covidiots and the useful fools who enable them in the name of “freedom”. I am so angry that once again public health is put bellow greed and the “rights” of a selfish minority to endanger themselves and others. 😡😡😡

OP posts:
postingfortraffichere · 12/09/2021 14:02

I'm vaccinated but I don't agree with passports to be honest - it should be down to each individual establishment to decide who that want in their venues not the government.

thepeopleversuswork · 12/09/2021 14:04

I agree with you OP but I don’t think this thread will go well.

Mintjulia · 12/09/2021 14:05

I suspect it's for systems reasons rather than policy.

Can those who have been administering vaccines, produce a definitive electronic record of who has had which vaccine and when, to transfer to a passport system. Probably not in a short enough time.

Cost v. benefit

DumplingsAndStew · 12/09/2021 14:09

If you're so righteously angry, why do you need to name change? Own it.

Ftr, I totally think the government are idiots, and agree with your summary of them, but a vaccine passport could and would only be relevant if being vaccinated stopped you from catching or transmitting the virus. Incidents of carrying the virus, or being reinfected are far too high to make them useful at all.

Theunamedcat · 12/09/2021 14:10

Its literally on the app its already in place where is the difficulty

didireallysaythat · 12/09/2021 14:11

I'm assuming it's because they haven't got the app (or whatever) working so it's better for them to say they've changed their minds than to launch another bit of shit infrastructure that has cost a fortune and doesn't work (world beating track and trace anyone?)

santaslittlehohoho · 12/09/2021 14:12

YABU for not putting this in the COVID section.

Vaccine passports wouldn't have "kept us all safe" - you can still transmit / catch COVID even when double jabbed (may be less likely but doesn't stop it).

ohfourfoxache · 12/09/2021 14:13

There are a great many reasons to be angry with this government.

I personally don’t feel like the vaccine passports are the biggest fuck up but it does contribute to a wider picture of complete idiocy

But it is working.

I can see my covid pass on my NHS app and have done for weeks.

It already exists in the NHS App! There’s nothing to be developed!! Upload passport to Wallet.

My 18 year olds just returned from Paris and says the system works really well and is really easy.

It’s madness that we’re not doing it.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 12/09/2021 14:19

This. Mine has been on my NHS app since June and I used it to get into Wimbledon in July. I can't comment on the rest of the UK, but for England there already is a definitive electronic record of which vaccine you had and when which happily appears in the NHS app.

Dancingonmoonlight · 12/09/2021 14:19

Re travel - will the double vaccinated now need to take covid tests to enter countries where the vaccine cert is otherwise used?

It is in the Covid section, and was when I made my comment, before yours Confused
Cornettoninja · 12/09/2021 14:19

Have you kept an eye on the vaccination rates? 89% of the adult (16+) population have had at least one dose (80% have had 2).

Domestic vaccine passports are pointless at this point; they might have had some value earlier on in the vaccination programme but there’s little benefit at the levels of take up we’ve had.

This.

All we can do is be sensible and considerate in our behaviour whether vaxxed or unvaxxed, ie avoid mixing if feeling unwell, practice good hygiene, get our own immune systems as strong as possible to cut our own risks. But even doing all that both vaxxed and unvaxxed can still pass it, possibly even more if vaxxed as maybe less likely to have symptoms and so could unknowingly spread virus whereas an unvaxxed person may be more likely to feel unwell and so hopefully if a decent person will limit contact with others. Having a passport doesn't boost the power of the vaccines.

FamBae · 12/09/2021 14:30

I fail to see what difference it makes, I've had both vaccinations and still had Covid and could pass it on, being double jabbed doesn't make you safer in fact in my opinion it makes you more dangerous because you may not even realise you have it.

Againstmachine · 12/09/2021 14:32

The government have many mess ups , covidiot is thrown around same as selfish in these parts.

I'm glad the government have backed down.

People who give up liberty for temporary safety deserve neither.

FamBae · 12/09/2021 14:32

Sorry Bluepinkyellowcakes I was busy checking my grammar & missed your post but yes that.

User135644 · 12/09/2021 14:34

Vaccine passports became pointless once it became apparent that vaccines aren't stopping transmission and vaccinated are still getting and spreading the virus.

What's annoying is the time, effort and expense wasted on another flawed policy and the failure to put in other mitigation to stop Covid getting out of hand again.

Antinerak · 12/09/2021 14:35

I am unable to be vaccinated and very at risk, but still don't agree with passports. If you don't feel safe going out to places where covidiots are, don't go. No one has ever died because they couldn't go to a concert, cinema or other busy venue.

Cornettoninja · 12/09/2021 14:35

True but misleading. Your chances of contracting and passing on the virus are greatly reduced but not zero. We don’t need zero, although it would have been nice, we don’t need it.
Watapalava · 12/09/2021 14:36

I think you'll find that those against passports are the majority not the minority

Flowerlane · 12/09/2021 14:36

The vaccine passports would have been pointless. Anyone can pass covid on, vaccinated or not.

User135644 · 12/09/2021 14:38

@Watapalava

So many people with vaccines still getting the virus made it unjustifiable.
Narutocrazyfox · 12/09/2021 14:38

Vaccine passports won't keep anyone safe. The only way that could possibly be achieved is if the vaccine stopped you from catching or transmitting the virus - which as others have posted, it doesn't.

I have no intention of getting the vaccine (although I respect other's choices). I will however conginue to be sensible and cautious as I have been since the start of the pandemic. I think this is a sensible decision for once!
