To be livid with the government

They are Cowards. Dropping plans for a vaccine passport which would have kept us all safe but after some pushback from the covidiots and the useful fools who enable them in the name of “freedom”. I am so angry that once again public health is put bellow greed and the “rights” of a selfish minority to endanger themselves and others. 😡😡😡

@Watapalava

I think you'll find that those against passports are the majority not the minority
And it’s an easy concession for the government when vaccination rates are already high. It’s more likely that someone has had the vaccine than not.
justdotherightthing · 12/09/2021 14:40

Agree OP.

The government are cowards.

Plus they haven't put anything else in place instead of the vaccine passport, e.g. a certain ventilation standard for indoor places to meet (just like hygiene standards that everyone is fine with), inspections, mask guidance.

They need something to encourage people to get vaccinated who just can't be bothered, rather than are against it.

Plus the end of PCR tests for inbound travellers. Just because there are some extortionate services out there, doesn't mean the government couldn't set a maximum price or set up their own PCR testing system at reasonable price.

Cowards and incompetents.

nordica · 12/09/2021 15:01

I'm fully vaccinated but I don't think vaccine passports would help much now as with Delta they don't reduce transmission as much as initially expected.

There are lots of other measures that would have helped though, for example continuing isolation for household contacts, mandating masks on public transport and enclosed spaces, and increasing ventilation in schools and other public buildings.

Againstmachine · 12/09/2021 15:03

Vaccine passports are cowardly , many people may be happy with the infringement of rules but no further rules or restrictions are required.

DoylyCarte · 12/09/2021 15:08

Vaccines don’t stop infection or transmission alongside the fact that in England c.90% over 16s have had at least one jab, and thus op’s fury is very peculiar and ill-informed.

Peteycat · 12/09/2021 15:11

The government have many mess ups , covidiot is thrown around same as selfish in these parts.

I'm glad the government have backed down.

People who give up liberty for temporary safety deserve neither.

Totally agree.

"They need something to encourage people to get vaccinated who just can't be bothered, rather than are against it"

What the hell are you saying??? That's called manipulation and coercion. Honestly some people are truly odd. You may want to live in a controlled world but most don't.

picklemewalnuts · 12/09/2021 15:13

I don't see the point of keeping unvaccinated people out of events, when vaccinated people spread Covid.

I'm double vaccinated, but am not at risk from people who are not. I mean, I have to remind myself of that constantly, particularly when I'm near unvaccinated people or children the lepers of the modern world !

Dbank · 12/09/2021 15:14

While I liked the idea of a "V-Pass" as it would encourage vaccine take up, it's become a bit pointless and impractical for the following reasons

  1. As anyone can pass covid on, regardless of their vaccination status, there is little point in restricting access to clubs etc

  2. Most venues don't know how to validate the passports anyway, and just look at the QR code which is easily forged with a screen grab.

  3. There's an unknown, but probably quite large number of people who aren't registered with the NHS, so have no medical history which is required for the NHS App (and therefore the V-Pass)

  4. As 90% of ICU admissions are un-vaccinated it's becoming abundantly clear vaccines are the only way out of the pandemic.

I think the Gov. made the right call on this one.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/09/2021 15:19

I went to the this week and was emailed beforehand to say I would have to show vaccine passport. Got there and they weren't even checking anything. So why say you have to show it?? Madness.

canigooutyet · 12/09/2021 15:20

Good. There was no scientific justification to have them in the first place. This has been known since mid June

Hotcuppatea · 12/09/2021 15:22

Calm down OP. People can disagree with you and the notion of covid passports without being 'Covidiots' you know.

GiveMeAUserName123 · 12/09/2021 15:25

Good, no reason they should be in force. Personal choice is important, even if I don’t agree with them choices, but having the choice is the point.

RolloTomassi · 12/09/2021 15:28

It's a fucking brilliant decision to ditch them, and for all the flaws of government I am just grateful the OP isn't running the country.

Lostinacloud · 12/09/2021 15:36

I’m elated! I may just be able to hold onto a fraction of hope that common sense and democracy still exists, in England at least.

What exactly do people think vaccine passports will achieve? You can walk into a venue fully vaccinated, have covid and still spread it to others so it doesn’t make any scientific sense. All it does is cause discrimination and a divided society.

I have seen this in action in Paris too and it’s awful. There is something extremely uncomfortable being seated at a table in a restaurant and watching countless people being turned away because they have made a personal decision about their own body.

Equally, when some 12 year olds can still go to football training if they’ve had their vaccine but their friend who would prefer to wait is not welcome.

Anybody that would be happy with the above should frankly relocate to China or North Korea (or France)!

BillyJoe111 · 12/09/2021 15:37

Some people won’t be happy until we have to ask permission to go to for a shit from a local committee.

Why do you want so much control over your life?

Stircraazy · 12/09/2021 15:41

I thought it might be because of the risk of corruption and Russian bots issuing passports for large sums.

ThisIsNotAMill · 12/09/2021 15:43

Fantastic news.

Requiring people to give personal health information to strangers was always going to be a legal and ethical minefield. I suspect the donkeys have only just realised this.

FfrothiCoffi · 12/09/2021 15:46

How on earth would vaccine passports keep us ‘safe’?

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 12/09/2021 15:49

They are also doing away with lft testing for admissions as well...

BogRollBOGOF · 12/09/2021 15:56

Vaccination rates are very high, especially amongst the sectors of the population that were originally at highest risk of serious cases. They are very sucessful at significantly reducing the impact on the NHS and death rates. They reduce but not elimimate Covid transmission therefore a "vaccination passport" is no guarentee that a venue is "Covid secure". If anything they encourage false confidence.

I'm glad that such a divisive, socially awkward policy with little benefit is being dropped.

Communities/ demographics that have lower vacvination rates are either at lowest risk from the virus anyway (u30s) or less likely to go to the types of venue that would be likely to require a vaccine passport.

Dancingonmoonlight · 12/09/2021 15:57

So covid and non covid patients will be together. I guess if that’s what people want…. I am baffled by it tbh but am not from the UK so have a different mindset. It will be interesting to watch.

TheKeatingFive · 12/09/2021 16:07

Well I’m in ROI and we have a vaccine pass, but most places are barely glancing at them before letting people in. You could be waving anyone’s QR code at them.

They need to be rigorously checked to be any use. Most places CBA and therefore they need outside enforcement, which no one here seems very interested in.

BlueJag · 12/09/2021 16:11

I'm against anything that divides society. Even if you are vaccinated you can still get sick, pass it on or die.
I'm all for individual choice even if I don't agree with it.
They are talking about having a booster shot. Would I take it? I'm not sure yet we'll have to see.
