Should have added a coma no, doubt a lockdown is on the cards!!

Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 08:03

Personally I don't think there will be another lockdown but it wouldn't surprise me if they re introduce mask wearing indoors and "WFH if you can" over the winter months.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/09/2021 08:07

@Thesandmanishere

Really no ones going to make me? Look at the restrictions they will put on adults, of course they nudge closer and closer to compulsory in everything but name only. Also the vaccine does have side effects- like most do- do you not believe women have had messed up periods after the vaccine?

Oh give over. Do you get asked if you've had the vaccine when you enter a shop? When you use public transport? When you enter a restaurant? Do they insist you must be vaccinated or your children can't attend school?

I have no opinion one way or the other on the period thing, as I haven't seen any data other than anecdata. My periods have personally been as regular as they ever were since my pfizer vaccines, and I would still rather have irregular periods than unvaxxed covid, personally.

Honestly the oppression Olympics is getting embarrassing. My Dad came here as a child refugee, the product of an actual dictatorship where people were shot in the streets for breaking curfew. Hearing people whine about the unvaccinated being oppressed is just painful.

And I suppose in your fathers country of origin he woke up and they just started oppressing people, it’s a slow burner- and of course you don’t mind whilst you are happy to comply and do what they are asking. What if the government say “ok let’s inject an unborn baby via the womb”- ok with this? Happy to be vaccinated- but not happy to erode away ones rights. Just like I am happy to donate my organs after death, I am not happy that the government own them and I have to Opt out.
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/09/2021 08:08

@Thesandmanishere

Would u be happier having had 3 years of messed up to little education?

He's had that in the same way as any schooled child has, as none of our regular home ed groups and classes ran during lockdown.

The homeschooling did as a product of lockdown is nothing like actual home ed.

Oh well I guess we all care differently about education and it’s value.
I guess the “The nothing is worse than death” line will be used over and over again by people who have the means to keep themselves and their kids afloat during restrictions
Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 08:11

And I suppose in your fathers country of origin he woke up and they just started oppressing people

Erm yes, that is literally what happened. There was a military coup and they assassinated the President. Liberal, westernised country one day, the next they were living in a dictatorship. It was not a slow burner.

What if the government say “ok let’s inject an unborn baby via the womb”- ok with this?

I literally have no idea what you are talking about here tbh Confused. Are you suggesting they will inject a mother through the stomach to get the unborn baby in the womb? Do they do that with the whooping cough and flu jabs? Hmm

Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 08:12

Oh well I guess we all care differently about education and it’s value.

I care about it very much. Hence the home ed.

But you think children should have to isolate again if around a positive test, how long for, forever?
TheLovelinessOfDemons · 12/09/2021 08:15

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Can't you understand why some people might want and/or need to get back to the office? There are other issues apart from Covid and not everyone can work from home even if their job can be done remotely. I've never cried so much as when I was working from home full time and I don't intend to end up like that again if I can help if.
Can't you understand that there are young CEV people for whom a mild case is fatal and they're not allowed to leave their home? DS 31 took the risk and went out to eat with his friends for his birthday this week. It was the first time he'd been out, apart from hospital appointments, since February 2020.
Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 08:15

In any case, if you care so much about your children's education being disrupted (which I completely understand!), then surely the logical thing would be to get them vaccinated.

marieantoinehairnet · 12/09/2021 08:16

I think if you're living with a positive result, nose to bloody jowl, ie a parent, it is senseless to send them to school!

Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 08:16

Not being funny but for years those of us begging to be allowed to WFH were told we could naff off and find another job if we didn't like it (which we did!). Doesn't the same apply to those who don't want to?

Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 08:17

I think if you're living with a positive result, nose to bloody jowl, ie a parent, it is senseless to send them to school!

It absolutely is but people will do it anyway.

@PineappleMojito

Well I won’t be working from home apart from on my admin day. I dare say some in my (mental health) profession will be clamouring to go back and hide behind screens (and I’m not talking about clinically extremely vulnerable here who shouldn’t have to work face to face, I’m talking average Joe and Jane). I’m burned out, quite frankly, don’t think I could take another lockdown with a high intensity caseload, having to work with the most complex and high risk cases because my colleagues who still haven’t returned to the office are quite happy sitting behind screens working with the less difficult ones. I’m having to turn down desperate cases every day in private practice because I’m full to busting. We’ve already got a tsunami of mental health issues to deal with from the past 18 months. Another lockdown will break people.

Boris is the king of unrealistic promises and unworkable plans at best, an outright liar at worst. I don’t believe anything he says at all.

@PineappleMojito this is so sad to read and I am slowly becoming one of them I can't take much more I know more people dying of other things cancer /suicide xx

Sky news are reporting that he’s repealing parts of the coronavirus act, the parts that relate to shutting down the economy, restrictions on gatherings and events, closing schools and detaining infectious people. So it sounds like we won’t be having another lockdown.

@UnmentionedElephantDildo

BBC article on this

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58529158

The numbers are stubbornly high - rolling 7 day deaths is just over 140 and that is a level for concern, as is number of hospital admissions, particularly because the winter virus season hasn't really got going yet

This will prob include my uncle who died of cancer repeatedly tested negative for covid but because he had a few covid symptoms they are putting covid on certification, they are too grief stricken to object !

PineappleMojito · 12/09/2021 09:08

@screwcovid thank you. It’s been bloody tough going. I have been - and will - keep going for my patients if there’s another period of restriction/lockdown and I’ll stay sane by bending the rules and seeing friends. It was so mentally unhealthy that my patients were my main source of social contact outside home for months on end. I won’t do it again.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/09/2021 09:29

Of course I can but I'm not sure why my mental health (and anyone in the same situation) is less important than other peoples' health. So many people on here think everyone should WFH and don't understand that it doesn't suit everyone.

marieantoinehairnet · 12/09/2021 10:19

See they've just ditched vaccine passports,which were always a bonkers idea, but how can you spend all that time and energy on something then come out and says it's a crap idea - honestly they are completely and utterly inept

Abraxan · 12/09/2021 10:36

Hopefully it will be to say that the vaccine is available to all 12+ if they want it.

I'm never sure why people are so bothered about it being offered to teens.

If you/your child don't want it then just don't have it.

But let those who do at least have the choice to say yes or no.

I have friends who's children do want it for a range of reasons.

One of those is because some countries are saying 12+ need to be vaccinated to go there without quarantine.

Some due to vulnerable family members.

Some due to child themselves being medically vulnerable but not enough to meet current restrictions.

Thesandmanishere · 12/09/2021 11:02

I'm never sure why people are so bothered about it being offered to teens.*

If you/your child don't want it then just don't have it.

Exactly that. It's pathetic, people acting like they're being strapped to a gurney and forcibly jabbed.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 12/09/2021 11:07

@2boysand1princess

Something needs to change. The current plan is obviously not working. Schools have only just resumed so things will only get worse I reckon. I am in a hotspot area. Just recently lost a colleague to covid. He was double jabbed and no underlying health issues whatsoever. It was devastating to hear he had died. Still can’t believe it. Yesterday we got the news our 36 year old relative is in icu with covid. Once again double jabbed no underlying health conditions. We are in a hotspot, however we won’t be the only ones with high case rates if something doesn’t change.
I don't want to sound callous, but if lots of healthy people are getting seriously ill and dying despite being double jabbed, then what else do we do? Vaccines are all we have long term. We can't eradicate covid, we can't keep locking down, or bringing in restrictions forever? So what are you suggesting?
Sunnyfreezesushi · 12/09/2021 11:10

Regarding 12 plus vaccines they need to offer 2 doses to be in line with other countries. Otherwise the young teens don’t even qualify for travel quarantine and test exemptions. It is a complete headache even for 16 year olds.

BewareTheLibrarians · 12/09/2021 11:12

@tootiredtospeak

The news this morning says he intends to repeal parts of the coronavirus act including restricting peoples movement and shutting down the economy. So no doubt a lockdown is on the cards. Masks may come back indoors for winter that's hardly a big ask. WFH I am due to start back in the office in October after 18 months in my conservatory. Not one day in the office. I will still use a mask on public transport but if WFH is insisted upon I think I may even consider changing career.
“Repeal” means “remove” (as in making a law no longer a law) so if you don’t want a lockdown, this would be good news for you - it means they’re removing some parts of the coronavirus act.

Mind you I’m not completely sure that this government understands the meaning of words, so I’m not getting too excited just yet!
