Is anyone else glad this potential decision has been taken away? I was very much undecided about vaccinating my older dc and now feel a bit of a weight has been lifted now its not something I need to consider.

Yes so we have a few months of data from other countries, do you really think that is anywhere near enough data to force through an untested vaccine on children here in the UK here Seriously?! Confused

stepupandbecounted · 05/09/2021 13:42

I am aghast at the risks some people are taking with their kids, really I am. It is bloody scary to watch. Like sheep trundling over the cliff.

Piggywaspushed · 05/09/2021 13:45

Hold up. Just getting out my anti vax bingo card. Sheep. Tick.

noblegiraffe · 05/09/2021 13:47

untested vaccine

Apart from the millions of people it's been given to globally, including children?

See, the interesting thing is that you assume that I will be vaccinating my kids when I haven't actually said either way.

Rest assured that my decision will be reached with no reference to the pile of lies, exaggeration and emotive propaganda that you have dribbled across this thread.

motherrunner · 05/09/2021 13:51

I’m ‘aghast’ that people won’t vaccinate their children but I’m not going to broadcast my views or try to convince others they are wrong.

We all make decisions in the best interests for our own children. If the children in front of me are vaccinated yes I’ll feel safer but if they are not then I respect their families’ wishes. Just like the pupils in front of me who didn’t wear masks. I didn’t judge them.

Do what you want to do. Stop trying to belittle others with your emotive language for their decisions.

I was wondering when big pharma would be mentioned

Howshouldibehave · 05/09/2021 13:54

It’s like having Molly Kingsley herself here!

noblegiraffe · 05/09/2021 13:54

The mask always drops eventually.

Mynameismargot · 05/09/2021 13:54

@stepupandbecounted

I am sure the pharmas will be delighted with your decison.
I'm glad your big pharma, global experiment agenda has finally come out anyway Smile
cherin · 05/09/2021 13:57

(There was a time when there was no pharma. Neither big nor small. People didn’t have access to basic medications besides a very limited array of things which included barbaric procedures. Many still do. My MIL’s life was saved by a tiny parcel of penicillin some relatives gave them before emigrating, when she had pneumonia as a young child- they managed to get it because they were working for an embassy and somehow there was a weird under-market of this new thing. I am sooooo very happy there’s a pharmaceutical industry. Big, small, I don’t care)

Anyone who wastes time complaining about medicines and pharma deserves to try living without it

Very true. I’m sure we have all benefited from “big pharma”.

It's interesting that parents who wants to vaccinate their own children don't seem to judge others who decided not to, but those who are against cannot stop belittling those who have different opinions.

I don't think everyone should be vaccinated, just that we should all have choice to get it or not, including children in approved age groups.

Piggywaspushed · 05/09/2021 14:22

Peter Openshaw- a NERVTAG scientist- has just expressed surprise at the JCVI's decision. Scientists are not a homogenous mass. Not even all of the JCVI agree with the decision.

Our kids getting vaccinated will benefit you and your family.

Just as our kids wearing masks will benefit you and your family.

You're welcome Smile

BewareTheLibrarians · 05/09/2021 14:40

I don't think everyone should be vaccinated, just that we should all have choice to get it or not, including children in approved age groups.

Exactly this. And also, that their choice is fully informed. Because what I’m seeing here on some of the anti-vaccine posts, is a worrying lack of knowledge.

For e.g
“The vaccine causes death.” Incorrect.
No reports of death to VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) were determined to be the result of myocarditis.
fullfact.org/health/pfizer-teens-myocarditis/

“This risk of myocarditis after the vaccine is too high.”
Again, the risk of myocarditis is higher after covid than after the vaccine.
HEART inflammation triggered by some covid-19 vaccines has been a concern, especially in younger people, but a preliminary study suggests that in those most affected, it is six times more likely to occur after a coronavirus infection than after vaccination.
www.newscientist.com/article/mg25133462-800-myocarditis-is-more-common-after-covid-19-infection-than-vaccination/

“JCVI think the vaccine is dangerous.”
Also incorrect. The JCVI actually say:
Overall, the committee is of the opinion that the benefits from vaccination are marginally greater than the potential known harms
They go on to say why they decided not to recommend it, but they categorically do not say that the vaccine is riskier than covid.

Some have made the point that the long term effects of the vaccine are unknown. Unfortunately, so are the long terms effects of covid but the ones that are known are organ damage and now recently, scientists have found lesions in the brain of former covid patients, similar to those on patients with Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s.

Maskedpotato · 05/09/2021 14:42

stepupandbecounted yes we know that you luvs your kids more.

BewareTheLibrarians · 05/09/2021 14:43

@herecomesthsun that’s part of the problem though, isn’t it? Smile
“Why do I have to wear a mask if it only protects other people and not me?” was a comment that popped up quite often on mask threads.

cherin · 05/09/2021 14:43

Anyone of us owns their life or at least their quality of life- and life expectancy- on pharmaceutical research, production and distribution. Very few of us will go to the dentist if there wasn’t pain relief.
My father had a decent death thanks to medicine, the alternative would have been unthinkable. As my 17DS just said, making me splutter half of my drink, in the states it’s full of antivaxxers who don’t take a vaccine but are happy to take anti wormers designed for horses! Seriously. We are SO lucky. So, so lucky.

herecomesthsun · 05/09/2021 14:45

I'm just so grateful that these amazing vaccines were produced so very quickly and have given so much hope Smile

cherin · 05/09/2021 14:46

And when we are so lucky but still we are not happy, or at the very least aware, and thankful, and prefer to waste time after conspiracy theories who look for the worst in people…well, that’s very sad.

I’m glad this thread ha my turned into comments about the benefits of medicine and also respecting free choice and consent (something anti vaxxers seem to think doesn’t exist).

herecomesthsun · 05/09/2021 14:56

67-90% have said they'd prefer their kids vaccinated (also off into the sunshine)
