Cases soar in Israel despite high vaccine uptake

Apologies for the source, but this looks a bit worrying - cases are soaring in Israel despite very high vaccine uptake. Serious Illness and deaths are down from the second wave, bit apparently rising sharply. Waning immunity is thought to a reason for this, yet in the UK we seem to be dithering around whether to introduce boosters.

With the already high number of cases, imminent back to school situation in England and lack of any mitigation measures, I'm worried. Anyone else?

After months of trying to get my head round your logic, meh!

So sue me.

Very fond of calling people childish, doesn't notice own childish lack of joined up thinking.

If vaccine protection wanes, you could argue high rates now, while vaccine protection is still sufficient to avoid severe disease in most people, is a good thing

Well, yes, and if I thought this was the peak then I'd agree. But my worry is that cases will now continue to rise sharply now kids are going back to school, with no mitigation, no vaccination for 12-15 year olds and a more contagious strain than last year. Like what appears to have happened in Scotland. As if so, we'll be looking at a winter peak nearly a year after the most vulnerable were vaccinated, when immunity is likely to have waned somewhat.

I just wish the government would be more decisive for once, and actually implement measures (eg booster jabs) BEFORE the shit starts to hit the fan. They just dither and dither like they have all the time in the world, but they don't.

Booster jabs for the vulnerable: Yep - appear to be needed. Dither dither (oh, and cut costs by giving the flu vaccine at the same time, even though that's contrary to guidance in the Green Book)

Jabs for 12-15 year olds? Yes - good idea, let's do it. Actually, let's not, could be tricky as well as the boosters. Oh shit - now schools are back rates and hospitalisations are not looking good again - let's now offer 12-15's jabs/ lockdown again.

How this has been handled has been farcical from the start, but not many seem to notice or care. I don't get it Confused

I'm definitely worried, I feel right now, the government should introduce restrictions.

We can see clearly that hospitalisations are rising along with those in ICU.

So, once the kids are back at school, then those numbers will start rising much more aggressively.
It seems silly to once again walk, straight into a lockdown.

@Shanghaisprize
The government dithering is nothing new.
The government U turning is nothing new.

What will be new however is them going back on their word about freedom day being irreversible.

That’s going to be a huge slice of humble pie when the time comes and BJ addresses the nation from a platform with a snappy slogan once again to say;

how sure they were,
how unforeseen this wave was,
how step four was always a risk,
how everyone really has to rally together and get behind one last final push,
the light is at the end of the tunnel,
more jabs for all…
…and errrr please put your face masks back on and back to the rule of 6, with 2m distancing and work from home if you can.

The backlash will be immense and dangerous because who would ever believe him again when all trust has been erased.

I would really hope this would happen tbh -But - where was the public backlash with the monumental fuck up that was last Christmas? He has gone against his word time and time again, but people DO still believe him and trust him.

And the compliance with lockdown/ masks/ social distancing/ rule of 6 ship has now long since sailed thanks to all the mixed messages the public have been fed by them over the last 18 months.

It's just so fucking depressing - frontline staff will be leaving in droves. I don't know if I have the mental stamina to withstand another winter like the last one, and so many of my colleagues feel the same.

Because he tells people what they want to hear at every chance he gets. He’ll mess this up just as he has done throughout the pandemic but then once the worst is over he’ll name it Independance day and they’ll all forgive him. Until the next wave. And the next wave.

Remember this is the man who delivered our Brexit deal, the biggest pile of rotten stinking afterbirth in history and almost half the Nation are pleased with him.

Fatigue will happen in most countries - look at Aus eg Melbourne lockdowns

But I do think healthcare staff have been incredible here as fatigue already setting in there and length of intense care has been much lower.

Oh gosh yes. Unfortunately I dont think we are at the end of millions of people trusting Boris still. Nor near the end.

The number of people who "follow the leader" in life, appears staggeringly high.
They may start of thinking one thing, but once a "leader" speaks, they start hanging onto every word of what they say. Sickening to witness.

IdblowJonSnow · 03/09/2021 21:32

I'm quite worried. It's either going to result in further lockdowns or various things being seriously impacted due to staff off ill.

Think itll be a long, hard winter.

The hospitalisation rate decreased last week.

This is a useful article for anyone interested

Reports of vaccines’ decline have been greatly overstated.
