Ivermectin bonkersness

I’ve just been reading about people all over the world who are buying a horse dewormer medicine to “cure” Covid-19. It makes people crap themselves, go blind and causes your intestinal lining to shed! How on earth does someone think taking a medication for animals is a good idea, but having a vaccine which is designed and tested for humans by actual doctors and scientists is crazy?!

@HBGKC

Double blind, randomised control study of Ivermectin: Completed 6 months ago ( 17 minutes )
It would be good if you could link the original paper directly, rather than just a youtube video of someone talking about it @HBGKC?

In other news, as the null evidence for ivermectin mounts, people are jumping on the next COVID "cure" - betadine

www.forbes.com/sites/judystone/2021/09/14/betadine-is-this-weeks-covid-19-cure-vying-with-ivermectin/

Of course, huge problems with taking an approved vaccine proven to have efficacy, but queuing up in droves to get their hands on toxic alternatives which have no evidence to actually work.

Ahah- have found the manuscript you are referencing -
www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.05.31.21258081v1#disqus_thread

Obviously not had time to take the 2-3 hours needed to read, assess etc properly - but a cursory glance over the methods demonstrates significant issues. Note it's a preprint and not yet peer reviewed and published, hence no one would have picked these up yet.

Some early peer reviews from academics in the comments section you might find interesting @HBGKC

Doesn't mean it should be dismissed, does mean that findings should be taken with a huge pinch of salt until the authors have time to get suggestions, makes corrections, and see if their findings dismissed. Given that we now have two large null RCTs (well designed and well powered, with the protocol pre-published), it would be surprising and interesting if these findings contradicted them so strongly.

@ChaBishkoot

No but it’s been through clinical trials (the human version) and is not hugely effective. And more importantly I believe Merck who manufacture the human version have suggested it’s not that useful. I mean it’s a pharma company. Can you imagine how much money they could make if it was a magic cure????

I mean these guys are all anti vaccine because it’s a pharma and big govt conspiracy. Why do they think pharma wouldn’t take advantage of a known easy to make drug if it could make money from it????

Point is the drug companies can't make any money off ivermectin because it's been off patent for decades so is as cheap as chips. Ivermectin has been used for decades on people on 3rd world countries to cure river blindness.
