I haven't been out of my town since march 2020

OP posts:
Mybalconyiscracking · 22/08/2021 07:52

Who is winning OP? Those who have travelled the furthest, or those who have travelled the least?

Mybalconyiscracking · 22/08/2021 07:54

I have been to Hell and back.

Banani · 22/08/2021 07:54

About an hour in the car to visit the beach, probably half a dozen times or so.

cricketmum84 · 22/08/2021 08:00

About 8 miles to a pub next to the airport runway for a meal and to watch the planes.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/08/2021 08:02

To Bath which is about 3 hours from where I live.

Swishswish26 · 22/08/2021 08:05

@torquewench the Scotland trip will have definitely been more expensive!
We got back from Spain yesterday after a wonderful two week holiday in the sunshine which even including the tests was half the price of going to Cornwall/Devon etc.

Swishswish26 · 22/08/2021 08:06

Furthest I’ve been though was Greece last summer- four hours on a plane.

EileenGC · 22/08/2021 08:12

I’ve just counted them properly and I’ve taken 28 flights since the pandemic began. I have 3 more later this month.

That’s the equivalent of a normal 6-month period for me, so it’s a 66% cut down.

The longest were a couple of 7h flights (all short haul, waaaay too many connections - thanks budget airlines for cutting direct routes), door to door the trip was more like 10-11h.

Crunchymum · 22/08/2021 08:17

About 100 miles (1.5 hours on train) to holiday cottage on the Kent coast

A family friend has let us have their cottage three times in the past year we do pay

We must be the only people who have had more holidays in the pandemic Shock albeit with haven't travelled far.

NeverTalkToStrangers · 22/08/2021 08:33

Four mini-breaks around the country about three hours away (one by train) and two proper holidays five hours away in Wales via relatives in Herefordshire. Seems like quite a lot now I write it down, but we have ageing relatives who’d normally come to us in London so we feel the need to go to them.

IamMaz · 22/08/2021 08:34

600+ miles in one day - to attend funeral of MIL. We had to drive 300+ miles there and then 300+ miles back home again in a day as we were not allowed to stay anywhere overnight.

DotsandCo · 22/08/2021 08:38

Why haven't you been out of your home town OP? 😱

This would drive me bonkers 😖

CosmicComfort · 22/08/2021 08:41

All UK but we have been loads of places! Furthest was 325 miles for holiday this month but we have had multiple weekend breaks and short breaks since March 2020. Around lockdown periods obviously.

Couldn’t imagine being stuck in my town. The short breaks have kept me sane during this last 18 months.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 22/08/2021 08:49

Either a train ride to Nottingham or driving to Loughborough, same kind of distance from where I live, both times to see family.

pourmeanotherglass · 22/08/2021 08:53

3 trips to Cornwall about 4 hours away and 3-4 trips to my parents about an hour away.

Lots of reasons why some people might have done this - being CV and having to use public transport, not much money, no real reason/need/desire to. I'm not saying it wouldn't drive me bonkers too, but I can completely see the reasons why some people haven't been far. Some don't travel very far from home even when there's not a pandemic - my mum only left her home town once a year, to visit family at Christmas, for example.
GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 22/08/2021 08:57

Also there's a massive difference between living in a big city with plenty to occupy you, and a tiny village/town where everything closes at 5pm and there's not even a cinema (I've done both!). When I lived in London I could quite happily have not needed to leave for 18 months!

User7458 · 22/08/2021 09:00

Penzance just after lockdown ended in 2020, DF lives there so we hooked up the caravan and off we went for a week, about 350 miles, we go once a year and are going in early October this year to miss the crowds. We have been to lots of other places same as we usually do so I guess same as usual.

LindaEllen · 22/08/2021 09:03

We went shopping to the nearest city which is an hour's drive away. We haven't been anywhere further for a long time.

PiddleOfPuppies · 22/08/2021 09:03

I've been all over the UK for short breaks, trips and visiting family. Regularly do 3-4 hours from home, not dead yet.
But we've never WFH either, so carried on the daily commute throughout.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 22/08/2021 09:04

2 1/2 hours to take DD to Uni

There and back in the same day

Going to Northumbria in September-woo hoo

MissDollyMix · 22/08/2021 09:08

Summer 2020 drove 10 hours to the Isle of Skye. Currently staying on a short break ‘only’ about 6 hours from home. I used to drive a lot before Covid so it’s nice to get back into the swing of things.

IsabellesMissingSock · 22/08/2021 09:14

Flew to Turkey twice last year. Been to Spain this year and (assuming all goes well) going to Greece next weekend and hopefully somewhere medium/long haul in October.

Why haven't you been out of your town for 18 months?

itssquidstella · 22/08/2021 09:14

Drive to Scotland from London this summer. I’ve been all over, tbf, just haven't gone abroad yet because I can't be bothered with the hassle of PCR tests/quarantine.

Dghgcotcitc · 22/08/2021 09:17

Portugal last summer (so quite a way!)
