DP has Covid - what chance do I have of swerving it?

DP tested positive on Sunday. We're both double vaxxed and his symptoms are fairly mild (he's just tired and has a sore throat). He's been sleeping in the spare room since he got the test results.

DD and I have been doing lateral flow tests every day and so far we're negative.

What are our chances of avoiding catching it? Has anyone got any experience of one member of the household catching it but others managing to avoid it? Please give me some hope!

50/50 - total guess

SpnBaby1967 · 10/08/2021 19:57

I had it, same symptoms as your DH. Shared a bed with DH, he never caught it and neither did my children

TeapotCollection · 10/08/2021 19:57

I’ve heard of some family members getting it and some not. There’s definitely hope

whataballbag · 10/08/2021 20:04

I’d say you’ve a decent chance. DS1 (7) caught it from school, DS2 (3) and I didn’t catch it from him and didn’t really distance either. Ex P didn’t catch it from him either and they’d shared a drink the day before his positive tests

starbrightstarlight8888 · 10/08/2021 20:06

Yep it was in my house a couple of weeks ago and nobody else caught it

statetrooperstacey · 10/08/2021 20:08

My DH and dd had it, I kissed my dd and shagged my DH daily Grin couldn’t test whether I caught it or not but I didn’t have a single symptom and neither did the other 2 people in the house.

IsabellesMissingSock · 10/08/2021 20:09

I had it very recently. DH didn't catch it. I slept, worked and ate in our bedroom, he slept in spare room. We only have one bathroom but I cleaned it about a million times a day as well as the kitchen. Seems to have done the trick.

CovIneedanamechange · 10/08/2021 20:09

DH had it in Dec before we were vaxxed. The rest of us were totally fine. Might have been asymptomatic I suppose but since we were all isolating anyway we didn't test

HariboHippo · 10/08/2021 20:09

My husband currently has it (tested last Thursday) and daily LFTs show me and DS have not yet caught it. Sleeping separately and lots of open windows but that’s it. Both double jabbed. I also know people at work that didn’t pass it to spouse so fingers crossed for us both!

Lnix · 10/08/2021 20:10

Know of a 4 year old who had it. Her single jabbed parents and unvaxed baby sister all avoided it.

Same here I was amazed
TheVolturi · 10/08/2021 20:10

Yes, ds age 7 had it and no I've else in the house caught it! All windows open!

bizboz · 10/08/2021 20:10

DC1 had it a few weeks ago, so presumably Delta variant. DH caught it, DC2 and I didn't, even though we probably spent more time in close proximity to DC1 than he did.

Off topic but Wow! Shagged him daily. That's pretty impressive regardless.

My DH had it last month, shared a bed and had the odd cuddle and kiss. Didn't get it. Neither teen DC got it but they don't get that close. All shared the kitchen and bathroom as normal.

IsabellesMissingSock · 10/08/2021 20:13

@Chosennone that was a different poster, not me! I stayed away from my husband cos I didn't want him to catch it.

WhereAreWeNow · 10/08/2021 20:14

Thanks everyone. Your answers have made me feel loads better. DD and I have a trip planned in a fortnight and I was feeling like it was doomed and we had no chance of swerving covid but now I'm feeling a bit more optimistic. I'm keeping windows open and will get busy with the disinfectant!

Sorry Blush quoted the wrong poster! It was statetrooperstacey that I was envying!

IsabellesMissingSock · 10/08/2021 20:15

@Chosennone no worries! :)

SpecialchildSupermum · 10/08/2021 20:49

I currently have tested positive. I’m isolating in bedroom like a leper! Only one bathroom in the house and I disinfect and use own hand towel after washing hands. It’s tough not wandering Around the house but I don’t want to pass it onto my family. So far so good. So I’d say nothing is 100% but try to keep washing hands and disinfect everything. And try to keep to a room all day!

Kittyswhiskers · 10/08/2021 20:50

My dh had it in January a week after I’d received my first jab. The dr wasn’t convinced I’d have any protection - I didn’t get it.

WhereAreWeNow · 10/08/2021 21:50

Sorry to hear you've got it @SpecialchildSupermum. I hope you feel better soon.

DS had it recently, no one else in family got it, DH & I double jabbed & unvaxed DD 13. Our holiday looked uncertain but luckily we were out of isolation a couple of days before.

tactum · 10/08/2021 21:54

DD got it last week, none of us did. She stayed in her room and we did food drops at the door. As she's a teenager she was really happy anyway!!!!

Torvi · 10/08/2021 21:55

Day 6 for me today. Double vaxxed DP is sleeping in the spare room but I'm not closing myself away as such. Plenty of windows open and being careful. Both young DC snd DP all ok so far...

hellcatspangle · 10/08/2021 21:56

It's a total stab in the dark. I know households that have totally isolated from each other, and managed to catch it. Others have made no efforts at all, slept in the same bed, and not caught it. I think it's all down to your own individual immune system!
