DP has Covid - what chance do I have of swerving it?

DP tested positive on Sunday. We're both double vaxxed and his symptoms are fairly mild (he's just tired and has a sore throat). He's been sleeping in the spare room since he got the test results.

DD and I have been doing lateral flow tests every day and so far we're negative.

What are our chances of avoiding catching it? Has anyone got any experience of one member of the household catching it but others managing to avoid it? Please give me some hope!

I’m putting my luck down Pfizer, my husband had AZ as have all of our fully vaccinated friends who’ve recently caught COVID. Although saying that, of those friends there was always one spouse who didn’t catch COVID.

We’re definitely in a delta hotspot and the speed at which my family all caught it would back that up as it spreads much faster.

whenwillthemadnessend · 12/08/2021 08:43

My mum currently has it and had Pfizer

WhereAreWeNow · 12/08/2021 08:47

DP and I both had AZ

I had Pfizer and still got it from my daughter.

There ain’t no telling OP.
My DD managed not to catch it from someone she shared a bed and a water bottle with. That was only a couple of months ago so I’d say Delta.
Yet my DS and his entire house (students) caught it from one another ages ago. So probably not Delta.
Fingers crossed for you. But don’t worry too much if you do catch it.

HelloMissus · 12/08/2021 09:25

Just to add that I know two people who caught it after double vax - both Pfizer.

So I've not swerved it. Positive LF this eve (despite negative PCR yesterday). Have been feeling not 100% since Tuesday but now worse

Oh no. I am sorry. Look after yourself. I hope it's not too bad for you, and your daughter doesn't get it.
WhereAreWeNow · 13/08/2021 09:45

Looks like I haven't swerved it either @breadwidow. I did another PCR yesterday which has come back negative but I've just done a lateral flow test which is positive. And I feel dreadful Sad
I don't know if I should do another PCR to confirm it.

Oh no @WhereAreWeNow 😞
Hope you feel better very soon.

breadwidow · 13/08/2021 11:10

@WhereAreWeNow weird we both had nectarine pcrs! I think when I got the neg pcr it was the start of it so false negative as I def had symptoms then, they are just worse now. I've got pcr on way anyway as track n trace asked contacts of my son to have another pcr test

breadwidow · 13/08/2021 11:10

@WhereAreWeNow nectarine?? I mean negative!!!

WhereAreWeNow · 13/08/2021 13:14

A nectarine test sounds preferable @breadwidow Grin
I did another PCR after this morning's positive lateral flow. Waiting for the results now.
It makes me wonder about all those people I've heard say "I had all the symptoms but did a test and it was negative". It's taken me a week of living with 2 people with covid, feeling more and more ill each day, daily lateral flow tests, and 3 PCR tests before I got a positive!

My dc was similar - negative LFTs despite symptoms and finally showed as positive 5 days later. Could have easily missed it - it was only due to asymptomatic friends testing positive that prompted doing another test.

FflosFfantastig · 13/08/2021 14:58

I had it but my partner and child didn't catch it.

samyeagar · 13/08/2021 15:47

Anecdotal here of course, and American, but all of the families and friends households that we know, not a single one had everyone in the household catch covid. Every single one was hit and miss where some got it and others didn't.

stayathomer · 13/08/2021 21:58

Hugs to everyone going through all of this at the mo, hope you all get loads of rest and everyone's better soonFlowers

FanGirlFoof · 14/08/2021 00:03

I swerved it. DP had it - confirmed positive 3 weeks ago. The 2 days before he got symptoms (when he should have been most contagious) we did two long car journeys together, plus our house isn't big enough for him to separate from the rest of us. None of us got it though. DP and I are both double jabbed.

BluebellsGreenbells · 14/08/2021 01:00

Makes me wonder come Monday, with very few people actually isolating away from family, how things will turn out once close contacts are no longer expected to isolate and are out and about at work, on trains, in pubs?

WhereAreWeNow · 14/08/2021 07:47

That's a scary thought @BluebellsGreenbells - given that I didn't get a positive test result until 3rd PCR test and DD never got a positive lateral flow but did show up positive on PCR. Under new rules from 16th I think we would have been able to go about our business as usual - visit elderly relatives, go to the cinema, go to work, get on public transport - on the basis that we had negative test results.

Yes. It worries me too.
My dc's year group were closed near end of term due to large number of cases. Dc had a very mild symptom (sore throat), but kept testing negative until 4 days later. Had that been September, dc would have been at school still, spreading it further 🙈

BerylBreville · 15/08/2021 08:47

Sorry 5 days later.
