Normal life is back

I don't know about you but life where I am is pretty much back to normal, masks in shops falling rapidly. People having a good time. Covid barely gets mentioned now. (and yes I know people are still catching it and a tiny proportion will die)

It feels great. So what happened to the 200,000 cases a day doom scenario peddlers on here? They seem rather quiet.......

Literally the only people who suffer badly, despite being double jabbed, are on mn.
In real life the double jabbed are sharing homes with Covid positive cases and not even testing positive....

The adult in my example above is double jabbed and has caught it from her dc. My friends brother and dad are double jabbed and incredibly unwell. I know to you I'm one of those people only on mn but sadly for me it's real

Slayduggee · 11/08/2021 08:32

I’m currently in a city which has the second highest covid rate in the country. 95+% people wearing masks in shops, etc. We have previously been very lucky as we have had some of the lowest rates of covid. 25% of the adult population are completely unvaccinated. Not normal here.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2021 08:37

@Slayduggee it is similar near us. Don’t know if it is because we were let off lightly before, but we have one of the highest rates in the country now, whereas before our numbers hardly registered. More wards in the local hospital are being made COVID wards, and many of the COVID patients are young

To me 'incredibly unwell' would mean they were in hospital. I have had colds that have made me feel absolutely awful, people have lost perspective. It seems Covid=catastrophe and nothing else.

Yes one is in hospital (her dad early 50's normally fit and healthy). Brother not yet but might end up.

So jealous of people in England whose lives are back to normal. Here in Scotland they're very much not. Kids back to school tomorrow in masks, socially distant from the teacher for at least 6 weeks and going on the Scottish government's decision making so far, considerably longer than that. Huge uncertainty over whether they're doing exams next year because they won't make the call. Masks compulsory in all indoor public spaces, shops, public transport. Still being asked to book your slot at the swimming pool, and many museums/attractions.

We have had to do this for the holiday we now can't go on in England.

If life is back to normal somebody should tell the ppl on here that are double jabbed and hiding away in their houses still and also the one's that want to wfh forever

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2021 08:57

Tried to make a doctor’s appointment. First one available is in September and although booked as face to face, they did keep saying I could change it to a phone call (same date though). Usually had a 2 week wait pre COVID, not a whole month.

NannyAndJohn · 11/08/2021 09:53

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque

SAGE recently reported that daily contacts are a quarter of pre pandemic levels, and lower than last summer (during EOTHO). So people still being cautious - certainly where I am, most people still in masks in shops and supermarkets.
And cases are more then 50 times as high!

What's wrong with wanting to WFH forever? It works really well for some people and companies. It should be more mainstream.

Not to mention the ones that want to go back to the office but their employers are being "cautious" and won't let them?
Thewiseoneincognito · 11/08/2021 10:15

Is life back to normal? Perhaps on the surface it may seem that way but I assure you, that is not the case long term. Make the most of the summer holidays whilst we are in the ideal circumstances of no school mixing, lots of outdoor activities, well ventilated rooms with open windows.

Now we wait for the vaccine resistant variant to show up, because as they have warned us, it’s coming. Our biggest mistake will be assuming we can live with Covid and letting our guard down believing we are over the worst.

I see so many more older people now not wearing masks and it just makes me feel like Chief Brody in Jaws when the Mayor insists everyone go back in the water, it’s safe.

NannyAndJohn · 11/08/2021 10:24

Yep.

People seem to have forgotten that cases are still sky high and are showing no sign of decreasing. In the height of summer. With schools closed. Before waning immunity begins to set in.

It's like last summer all over again, and as I said cases are already more than 50 times higher than they were then.

Jesus H Christ. So what's the alternative? Lockdowns forever each time a new variant pitches up. Fucks sake. There will be more deaths by suicide than COVID at this rate.
MarshaBradyo · 11/08/2021 10:28

Funny how the depressing posts come back at same time.

Same old stuff.

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/08/2021 10:32

@LysistrataVickers I think we can still lead a relatively normal life but with certain caveats such as mask wearing and a degree of social distancing still in place. We are applying Pre-covid logic to a Covid world and the two are like oil and water, a lesson we will once again learn when autumn comes just like last year.

It is naïve to think we can carry on in blissful ignorance and that the risk will go away without any intervention on our part apart from vaccines.

Hi Marsha 👋🏼 I see you’re still perusing the threads too
herecomesthsun · 11/08/2021 10:36

My GP said to me yesterday that they are especially concerned because they think people (including vulnerable ones) are not being so careful now and are waiting to see what will come of that.

MarshaBradyo · 11/08/2021 10:37

Oh no I forgot you tagged me. Short memory 😫

Ignore what I said I’ll go back to skipping the depressing ones 😬

Hope you’re enjoying some sort of summer isn’t it nice to be freer.

I’m WFH and hate it but I don’t understand why people get so upset about others WFH.

Is it resentment? Why don’t you apply for a job which is WFH if you want? If not, how does it affect you? Why are you so bothered what other random people are doing when that has zero impact on your life?

MarshaBradyo · 11/08/2021 10:40

And how lovely the recent doom predictions haven’t happened.

That’s great. Hopefully even the most negative and depressive get some sort of feel good factor Smile

herecomesthsun · 11/08/2021 10:44

How lovely people aren't dying, yes.

Otherwise, life is much the same (which is fine by the way)

If CEV people started going to nightclubs etc there would be a whole lot more people dying.

herecomesthsun · 11/08/2021 10:45

or rather, it's very good that the death rate is lower than we thought it would be, people are still dying from this of course

Doodlebug71 · 11/08/2021 10:46

This. We can't wish covid away by simply pretending it's not there anymore. It is.

There are rather too many denizens of MN who appear to be utterly and totally scientifically illiterate, as well as ignorance personified.
