Normal life is back

I don't know about you but life where I am is pretty much back to normal, masks in shops falling rapidly. People having a good time. Covid barely gets mentioned now. (and yes I know people are still catching it and a tiny proportion will die)

It feels great. So what happened to the 200,000 cases a day doom scenario peddlers on here? They seem rather quiet.......

@Rosehip10

Some have discretly name changed.
I was wondering if that was the case but I haven't spotted any of them yet.
ArriettyTheBorrower · 10/08/2021 13:35

They've presumably all jumped on the global warming bandwagon. Some people are not happy unless panicking about something.

ExmoorValley · 10/08/2021 13:36

I wonder if they are happy that the worst case scenarios never came to pass....I hope so....

Not sure what happened to them but lets not rattle their cage!

Aposterhasnoname · 10/08/2021 13:41

They’ll be back when/if cases start to go up again over winter. I’ve been hoping to see a particular one who along with 100,000 cases a day by Jun 21st predicted “3000 hospitalisations in a month” on the 8th July.

Campervan69 · 10/08/2021 13:41

Yes, things back to normal here too. I had it in Jan, I'm double jabbed, not going to waste any more of my life agonising over it. Went to a football match this weekend, was fab to be in a big crowd again. No masks to be seen. Weekend in a hotel. About to bob off on holiday - sadly not abroad as too expensive to take a family of 5 with all the extra tests etc.

ActonSquirrel · 10/08/2021 13:42

It's great isn't it. Loving life at the moment

sleepwouldbenice · 10/08/2021 13:47

Yep that worldwide pandemic has just popped off....

Not what I said at all. I said life was back to normal where I live. Quiet a different thing..... Hmm

Funnily enough the 1918 flu pandemic did just that. Once enough time had passed it burned itself out.

Aren't we supposed to name change, I do about once a week, are we meant to be discreet
DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 10/08/2021 13:52

We've had Covid in our house for the last 3 weeks - today was my first day out of the house.

I was amazed to see only a handful of masks in the shop.

We are are double-vaxxed and were hit quite hard with Covid.

YellowMonday · 10/08/2021 13:52

I'm in Australia, and I find these threads fascinating/hopeful. For us release from the need for lockdowns is 70% vaxxed (both jabbed) and our "freedom day" is 80% vaxxed.

70% on target for November and 80% December.

I'm hopeful seeing after the small wave, life settling down in the UK. I miss my life (while acknowledging my privilege of not losing anyone I love/know from Covid or affected by long COVID or separated from my family by closed domestic and international borders).

😂 exactly what I thought watching the news last night! X

The doom mongerers will be back come October.

Well that seems to be Indie Sage/The Citizens’ chosen strategy. As soon as the media storm arounds Covid dies down and they’re no longer getting sufficient media appearances/column inches they will pivot to climate change.

Not saying at all that I disagree that climate change is a huge issue, but it’s interesting to see how these groups and the activists within them operate.

clarkkentsglasses · 10/08/2021 14:02

It's great I agree. Went to a concert in Sat, huge crowd, people dancing and having a great time.

My low mood has finally lifted.

I wonder if all the Covid Marshalls have become climate Marshalls now and can still wear their very important hi viz jackets Wink

Cases are on the rise again right now?

Mum21031608 · 10/08/2021 14:25

It definitely feels back to normal where I am.

Shopping, pubs, restaurants, cinemas.....all places I’ve been to over the last week and not a mask in sight.

It’s wonderful.

I love seeing people’s faces again.

BluebellsGreenbells · 10/08/2021 14:30

I have a few thoughts on this

Firstly the government have done all they can with vaccinations, there isn’t another alternative.

Businesses will now have to have their own covid policies - masks social distancing hand washing etc and the costs will fall on them

The main worry is businesses closing as covid rips through their business

I won’t be happy until all major large gathering - like schools and universities are double jabbed to allow the teens some more freedom

Catchthepigeons · 10/08/2021 14:32

Not to be THAT person, but it really isn't over for a lot of the population who are clinically vulnerable but have to return to work. People who don't wear masks anymore in essential public places just make life more dangerous for others who need to go to the supermarket or on public transport.

It's been a tiring 17 months but we're not out the woods yet and should still be looking out for each other instead of throwing caution to the wind so happily.

MareofBeasttown · 10/08/2021 14:35

I don't know about normal ( my situation is complicated). However, everyone in my family is now jabbed down to the young teens, so I am feeling less worried.

OrangeBananaFish · 10/08/2021 14:36

Just been to a large shopping centre and even though I took my mask, it didn't come out of my pocket. I feel people are starting to drop them as they see more and more people are.

Although I did forget how tiring a shopping session can be.
