Waiting for my PCR results. Feeling so rough. Everything aches. I've taken paracetamol and slept most of the day. Feel like I've got the beginning of a cold and feel feverish but can't take my temp as the thermometer broke a while ago.
Urgh urgh urgh. Not really sure why I'm posting really!

@BorisTheBellendPM yes me now first 3 days just shortness of breath but heavily pregnant too so put half of it down to that now feel so fatigued throat like razors, nose blocked lost total smell and taste it's so so odd

HopefullyNotInfected · 12/08/2021 20:02

I started with a sore throat and mild headache for 3 days, had a negative PCR at that point (dc had symptoms before me and tested positive)
Day 4 I had a positive LFT after the sore throat got worse
Day 5-6 the runny nose kicked in on top of the sore throat and headaches. Ached a lot.
Day 7 - runny nose abated, still felt dehydrated despite drinking constantly. Lost sense of taste and smell
Day 8 (today) - finally able to stop the 2-hourly cycle of paracetamol and ibuprofen. Scratchy throat as per the early days. Feeling a bit more human but still had positive LFT.

HopefullyNotInfected · 12/08/2021 20:03

I’m 50’s, fat and double vaxxed with no underlying health conditions

BorisTheBellendPM · 12/08/2021 20:09

Thanks for the info, looks like I could well still be in for a bit of a ride with it.

Worst timing for it (like some others in the thread) as had a big event coming this weekend where I'd have met with friends I haven't seen in about a year. But at least I know I'll not be spreading anything.

mrssunshinexxx · 12/08/2021 20:14

@HopefullyNotInfected this gives me hope day 8 for the turn around pleaseee for me too. I'm day 5 from positive test but I would say day 7 from symptoms

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 20:39

Do you know, I completely forgot the runny nose, then blocked nose, then runny. That lasted a day. Day 6 iirc. Every day a new symptom!

croon979 · 12/08/2021 21:46

Please can I join? I had a positive lateral flow this morning. My dad tested positive on Tuesday and I had met him for brunch on the Sunday. I have been isolating since his result on Tuesday and taking lateral flow tests. The one I took yesterday was negative and today’s was positive which I was not surprised about as I started developing symptoms yesterday. Awaiting PCR test results. My 6 yr old son has also been tested as he had some potential symptoms. DH so far symptom-free and testing negative with lateral flows. Both DH and I are doubled vaxxed.

I am feeling achy, sore throat and chest and tired. I am thinking that the chances of me NOT having Covid are slim to none….anyone know of anyone that has had a positive LFT and then a negative PCR?

croon979 · 12/08/2021 21:46

Oh and I am pretty scared as I am a chronically bad asthmatic

breadwidow · 12/08/2021 22:00

@HopefullyNotInfected the start of things with you sounds very similar to me and I also got negative pcr!

DS got symptoms first (early Monday got a fever) & before we got test I began to feel a tad rough (mainly sore throat, this was early Tuesday) though no fever or cough so unlike DS none of the 'classic' COVID symptoms. I took me & DS to get tested early weds, he came back positive & me negative & I also had negative LF. Before we got our results DH started feeling awful, much worse than me and came up positive on LF (positive PCR just returned). I began to feel worse today so did LF and it's positive, more pcrs already on order for home delivery due to DS testing positive . I now have a pounding headache in addition to sore throat but DH still worse than me with body aches etc.

Anyway, my question is do my 10 days start on Tuesday when I first got symptoms or today due to negative PCR on weds? This may not matter if I still feel terrible but I'd really like count down to begin on Tuesday as that would mean isolation ends just in time to see some (double jabbed!) relatives visiting from abroad next Saturday (21st). Me and DH Disagree with him erring on caution and me not, but he's also feeling really rough so cannot contemplate being well enough to do stuff now anyway

I know vaccine will prevent serious illness but feeling fucked off we still got it when double jabbed. The timing sucks for ruining summet plans

mrssunshinexxx · 12/08/2021 22:14

I didn't even do a pcr @croon979 there was no doubt in my mind my lateral was correct becayse I felt like shit. Hope it's mild for you x

breadwidow · 12/08/2021 22:44

I do know of someone who had positive LF and then negative pcr but they didn't have symptoms

croon979 · 12/08/2021 23:26

Thanks, I have just done a second lateral flow - also positive. Looking unlikely I fear

Workyticket · 13/08/2021 08:03

My PCR came back positive this morning. Unsurprising as I feel shit

ds negative. Not sure on dh as he's still asleep

Can't understand people not getting pcr - even just to keep data correct for research reasons?

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2021 08:25

Bad luck worky : rest up.

Day 10 here - maybe, just maybe feeling a touch better...

mrssunshinexxx · 13/08/2021 08:36

@Workyticket because I don't want to take my poorly baby or myself out the house and risk spreading it.
Becayse I'm not interested in being one of the governments numbers I just want us both to get better , is that ok?

Without wanting to be arsey I really don't think it's OK.

They do postal ones where they drop off and pick up the tests so no need to go out - I really do think it's important for the NHS to have accurate data and it might also be useful in future for it to be on your medical records.

I hope you're feeling better now though

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2021 08:57

might also be useful in future for it to be on your medical records.

That bit is important.

But ,also sequencing, for new variants.

But totally understand it adds stress.

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 13/08/2021 09:17

@mrssunshinexxx I'm sorry you are ill, having a baby and being pregnant makes everything harder - I hope you feel better soon.

I have to agree with previous posters though in that you can get tests delivered etc, you don't have to go out of the house. It's also important you have your medical records correct for your own sake and the baby. If you want to seek medical treatment at any point, already having your PCR results will make it quicker and easier for you.

It's not about you being "one of the government numbers" it's for your benefit - and everyone benefits if the government numbers are more accurate as interventions can be targeted.

God knows I hate the current government and think they have been woefully and criminally inept but I don't think this should stop you ensuring you get the best possible care. Also, the government numbers highlight how woeful and inept they have been - maybe think of it like that! We want to hold the government to account and your result is part of that.

(I don't want to derail with discussions about the government when the thread is about us Smile but I wanted to respond to you sunshine)

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 13/08/2021 09:23

I'm also considering if I feel brave well enough to start an AIBU thread asking if the symptoms need updated to reflect the fact (albeit anecdata!) that a bad headache and sore throat seems to be the first warning sign.

Certainly in my family, and my DCs' friends this has been a precursor to cough/lack of taste or smell/fever. It seems to be reflected in this thread too?

I had a headache and sore throat over the weekend, yet I am officially on Day 5 now as my cough/lack of taste didn't start until Monday and I had a strong LFT positive. (I do feel quite unwell, I was just thinking I will put my phone down and rest so I must be bad Wink)

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2021 09:25

They did add the taste and smell symptom ages ago so I have never know why they are so averse to adding others, in the interests of public health. Perhaps those symptoms are too generic and vague. Certainly, gastro symptoms should have been added , imo.

breadwidow · 13/08/2021 09:30

Completely agree about adding those symptoms. Neither DH or I have any of the symptoms listed on gov.uk (no cough, no fever, no loss of taste / smell). We have thumping headaches, slightly sore throats & I also have that full feeling in the ears like you get with a bad cold. If my son hadn't had a fever first I would have thought this was a cold and not tested.

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2021 09:37

Yes, I wouldn't have tested as early if my two DSs hadn't been exhibiting more classic symptoms.

CatAlice · 13/08/2021 10:03

Shocking night of violent coughing and no sleep. Awaiting call back from GP.

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2021 10:11

Sorry to hear that cat. Do you have an oximeter at home?

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 13/08/2021 11:21

"also have that full feeling in the ears like you get with a bad cold" Yes that is exactly is @breadwidow.

My DD was the first to have a sore throat, but she had been "shouting over music" to friends the night before, so we assumed it was that, especially with a negative routine LFT and no other symptoms.

If that had been a warning symptom to get a PCR she would have got one, but she didn't lose her taste until two days after. She now feels guilty as my infection must have come from her but she had no other symptoms and our house is too small to self isolate effectively anyway! I have insisted she should not feel guilty and now I feel guilty that she feels guilty, isn't being a parent great!

It makes me wonder how many people are wandering around and going to work etc with sore throats and banging headaches but assuming it's not CV!

I realise broadening the warning symptoms would lead to more testing and positive cases, increased self isolation and disruption. I wonder if now the self isolation for jabbed people is ending, they may widen the symptoms knowing it won't cause so much disruption unlike the previous knock on self isolations

As someone in the shielding category, I would actually prefer if there was a shift towards people not going out with colds and minor illnesses, but I realise this isn't always practical (as people in my household were on zero hours agency contracts and at worst, and most likely would lost their jobs, at best receive sick pay which wouldn't pay their bills, and didn't qualify for the £500 SI payment)

It's a balancing act I guess. With covid the stakes are so high though (especially for CEV people, I'm quite worried for myself actually and lots of people are in the same position)
