"also have that full feeling in the ears like you get with a bad cold" Yes that is exactly is @breadwidow.
My DD was the first to have a sore throat, but she had been "shouting over music" to friends the night before, so we assumed it was that, especially with a negative routine LFT and no other symptoms.
If that had been a warning symptom to get a PCR she would have got one, but she didn't lose her taste until two days after. She now feels guilty as my infection must have come from her but she had no other symptoms and our house is too small to self isolate effectively anyway! I have insisted she should not feel guilty and now I feel guilty that she feels guilty, isn't being a parent great!
It makes me wonder how many people are wandering around and going to work etc with sore throats and banging headaches but assuming it's not CV!
I realise broadening the warning symptoms would lead to more testing and positive cases, increased self isolation and disruption. I wonder if now the self isolation for jabbed people is ending, they may widen the symptoms knowing it won't cause so much disruption unlike the previous knock on self isolations
As someone in the shielding category, I would actually prefer if there was a shift towards people not going out with colds and minor illnesses, but I realise this isn't always practical (as people in my household were on zero hours agency contracts and at worst, and most likely would lost their jobs, at best receive sick pay which wouldn't pay their bills, and didn't qualify for the £500 SI payment)
It's a balancing act I guess. With covid the stakes are so high though (especially for CEV people, I'm quite worried for myself actually and lots of people are in the same position)
