It’s a disgrace pupils in Scotland must continue with this farce

Mask wearing, social distancing. It affects their learning, interaction and it’s gone on for long enough. Enough is enough. It was highlighted that masks are useless against the delta variant unless N95 masks. My children will be exempt from now on. This has been going on for far too long and one of my children has become very badly affected mentally by lockdown. Fuck this.

OP posts:
DufferMum · 03/08/2021 21:11

God, I hope they get some semblance of normality this year, it’s been really shit for them.

Darbs76 · 03/08/2021 21:17

That’s hard for them, I know my kids struggled with a mask so I was glad they are no longer needed in September. We have just had Covid and my son caught it in school wearing a mask

MarshaBradyo · 03/08/2021 21:17

Can you say more about the SD needed?

How long is this lasting

nevergoesaway · 03/08/2021 21:18

@Bizawit yes but isn’t the issue that they can carry it and take it home to people who could be affected badly?

HSHorror · 03/08/2021 21:18

Covid is quite likely to mean kids have 10 days off isolating as they have caught it though. They could catch it say every 6m so twice a school year and 20 days off. Which is more than mine have had off due to bubbles......

And actually we dont know how ill kids will get surrounded by a whole class /assembly of kids shedding covid...

pinkhousesarebest · 03/08/2021 21:28

What’s with the British and masks for dc? I am a teacher in another European country. Masks mandatory from 6 since September and schools were closed for a week only. Everyone adapted, only one dc in my class got Covid( from home) and my dd’s exams went ahead as normal.

Getawaywithit · 03/08/2021 21:37

Yeah. Fuck all those CV and CEV kids, eh? They don’t deserve even the minimum of protection.

Bizawit · 03/08/2021 21:39

I was responding to the poster who said that children were at risk of getting seriously ill or dying of covid.

cantkeepawayforever · 03/08/2021 21:42

I am not sure about the logic of your post.

Your child has been affected by lockdown - so you want schools to be open as much as possible (as, tbh, does everyone). However, you do not want any measures that reduce spread of Covid infection - which leads ultimately to lockdown if out if control - in schools.

You have found an article that says that some commonly-used masks provide less protection than others. You cite this lower efficiency as a reason, not to move to better masks, but not to use masks at all.

I get it - you want schools to be normal next tear. So do we all. The best way to do this is control spread between children.between children and their families, between staff, and between children and staff. Until we drive all infections down to a very low level through herd immunity, some mitigating measures - ventilation, reducing numbers of contacts, masks in close contact inside where social distancing is impossible - may be necessary to prevent the much harsher mitigations such as lockdowns ir other restrictions.

I have never understood this, tbh. It’s a cultural thing, I think, and as you say, defies logic and the experience of other countries.

I really wish we lived in Scotland

IndigoC · 03/08/2021 21:52

Same.
Rainuntilseptember · 03/08/2021 21:52

The "news" on masks you quote OP says masks have an effect, surgical masks more than cloth and N95 more than both. Try reading your work twice maybe?
The distancing - adults staying 1m away; hardly end of the world? Pupils never did distance other than for around three weeks before Easter.
What should be pointed out for people reading this thread out with England is that Scottish schools go back either next week or the week after - mitigations need to take account of the current situation not the situation in September and CEV children will not be vaccinated in time.

Rainuntilseptember · 03/08/2021 21:53

Out with Scotland, even

actorbynight · 03/08/2021 22:02

I'll stick to masks for a bit longer I think

It’s a disgrace pupils in Scotland must continue with this farce
Pootle40 · 03/08/2021 22:05

My son starts high school in Scotland this month. He will not be wearing a mask.

Pastrydame · 03/08/2021 22:09

Why Pootle, does he have a reason or is it just because you don't want him to?
You've no idea who he will be sitting next to in class.

Pootle40 · 03/08/2021 22:10

@Pastrydame

Yes the reason is he is an 11 year old child. Full stop.
Pastrydame · 03/08/2021 22:12

So, no reason then. Hmm Luckily most 11 year olds will wear them no problem and that will help protect your 11 year old.

Sillysuzie · 03/08/2021 22:12

@Igorussia

I think it’s you that are the governments’ puppets! You’re doing a great job of spouting their propaganda.

Luckily these masks are not legally enforceable and they are being binned as I write.

Oh, hi there, covid denier. Not getting enough bites on Facebook?
Pootle40 · 03/08/2021 22:14

@Pastrydame

Correct. I don't need a reason. He doesn't need protected. The same people he's at school with would all be allowed in his home......
Pootle40 · 03/08/2021 22:15

@Pastrydame

There are many who won't be wearing them. But you don't find them on MN for some reason.
Pastrydame · 03/08/2021 22:16

But would you have room for them? He will be in class with about 50 people, when you add different subjects. Big house!
Fortunately the school will want a bit more detail than you have chosen to give us Smile and you might find your dc wears a mask to fit in with his classmates anyway (my dc's school always has plenty spares to hand out).

NeonK · 03/08/2021 22:18

Another term for my deaf son, in his exam years, unable to fully access the curriculum. School have admitted his results this year were affected by covid mitigations. But 'there's nothing we can do'.
ScotGov throwing deaf/ASN kids under the bus again.

Pastrydame · 03/08/2021 22:18

Have just asked 13 year old ds. He sees two pupils who don't wear them in his classes. That's not a lot, thankfully.
Your attitude is unfair to the pupils who have actual reasons for not wearing masks.
