Covid positive family next door accidentally threw ball into my tiny garden

It bounced and rolled.I'm CEV.

Do I:

  1. Chuck it back and ask then not to kick the ball against my fence but on the other side to the non-CEV neighbours!
  2. Say nothing, but wear gloves and then wash my hands thoroughly and spray the grass with dettol kitchen spray
  3. Put a knife in it, and bin it, like DH suggests
  4. Stroll out there and simply chuck it back and don't worry, it's outdoors, just wash my hands with soap and that's it.

PS, I wouldn't really take option 3, it must be hard for them being cooped up for 10 days over the summer holiday.

4, anyone suggesting gloves is silly, it's pointless if she washes her hands after touching it.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 03/08/2021 17:56

@gardeninggirl68

It's come home then?

According to football associations and team managers, anything involving a football means covid doesn't happen

The euros and all the travel, hugging,crowds....covid swerves anything to do with football so you'll be fineGrin

💐💐post of the day!!!!💐💐

As a CEV person I'm considering wearing a full kit & carrying a football around with me!!

@StuffCovid. I'm not sure you're on the level considering your posting name.

I'm CEV with a couple of additional V's at the moment, I'd happily just throw it back then wash my hands WELL, more than one round of HB.

@onebeauplace It Is possible to get COVID touching something like this. If you & your mum want to take that risk, that's your choice. It's not correct to say it's impossible & it's not nice to be so condemning of people for taking more precautions than you do.

FlyingFancy · 03/08/2021 18:03

It Is possible to get COVID touching something like this.

With respect, surface transmission risk is basically nil. I understand why people are anxious, that's another issue, but it's not backed up by logic or science.

Againstmachine · 03/08/2021 18:06

If you wash sanitize your hands straight after the possiblity is so low it's nearly zero

XenoBitch · 03/08/2021 18:15
  1. Don't lick the ball or sniff it. Wash your hands after. You will be fine.
LatteLoverLovesLattes · 03/08/2021 18:15

Not criticising people for being anxious but the risk of surface transmission is vanishingly low. Google it.

But both of these reports state that transmission via surfaces is LOW IF CLEANING OF SURFACES occurs.

Our findings suggest that environmental contamination leading to SARS-CoV-2 transmission is unlikely to occur in real-life conditions, provided that standard cleaning procedures and precautions are enforced

How often do you think the kids thoroughly clean their football?

Fomite transmission is less likely than airborne transmission, but hand washing and cleaning of 'touch points' is still important.

Surface transmission is a lower risk than airborne transmission. However, it is not 'basically nil'. Not according to any reports or common sense.

Being wary & washing your hands is sensible.

kowari · 03/08/2021 18:29
  1. You don't catch it through skin. As long as you wash your hands before touching your face it's fine. Assuming you are are vaccinated?
FlyingFancy · 03/08/2021 18:36

Erm, I never said you shouldn't wash your hands Hmm

Darbs76 · 03/08/2021 18:51

Neighbours guests threw a Teddy over the fence when I had Covid. I said I’d put my hand over a barrier bag and throw it back but suggested they wash it. I’m sure they wouldn’t catch Covid from that but I wanted them to be aware. In your case just wash your hands after

PalmsandCharms · 03/08/2021 18:55

This is a joke thread right?

Halloweenrainbow · 03/08/2021 19:03

Your post reminded me of an incident in our garden at the beginning of the first lockdown. The neighbouring family started blowing bubbles which was fine until the bubbles drifted over to us and our kids jumped to catch them. The bubbles popped and splattered everywhere and I suddenly felt like we were under attack by little missiles of deadly breath. To answer your question: throw the ball back, wash your hands, and enjoy your garden Flowers

dopeyduck · 03/08/2021 19:05

@feejee

Throw it back. Just dont lick your fingers before you've washed your hands.
This.
Wolframhart · 03/08/2021 19:15

I don’t think people understand what it’s like being CEV right now. Especially CEV and evidence that you are one of the lucky people that the Covid vaccine does nothing

If you are used to being hospitalized from the small viruses and food poisonings that other people barely notice, Covid is absolutely terrifying. Telling someone to just pick up the Covid soccer ball is kind of the same as telling them to go ahead and eat the dish that got left out of the refrigerator for a couple of hours. Sure, most people will be perfectly fine, but the odds aren’t the same for everyone.

LindaEllen · 03/08/2021 19:17

Honestly, the fact you feel the need to post this shows you are really struggling to get things into perspective. Do you have family around you? Perhaps chat to your GP and your anxiety. ❤️

LindaEllen · 03/08/2021 19:17

About ..

VanGoSunflowers · 03/08/2021 19:30

Use mind control to make the ball levitate and guide it over the fence. I think there is a Harry Potter spell that may work.

Have you considered a controlled explosion?

'Covid soccer ball'

I'm sorry but the fact that you've written that says it all.
Wtf is a 'covid soccer ball'?! Utter madness.

And before you start, please read my pp about exactly how much I understand the risks for those are cev.

Dandy008 · 03/08/2021 20:25

This can’t be a genuine post, surely!!

Have you RTFT?
Sausageroll67 · 03/08/2021 20:28

@brittleheadgirl

No 3 is just plain mean.

Why the hysteria?
Dh is cev and is now back at work and enjoying venturing back to the pub etc

Presumably you're double vaccinated, if so why are you so irrationally paranoid?

Because lots of CEV people like to tell people they are CEV and get into some sort of hysteria about it, same as a lot of NHS staff just have to puff their chests up and tell you they are NHS staff. They're all the new vegans.
JustLoveYourselfALittle · 03/08/2021 20:33

Pick the ball up. Throw it back. Don't lick the ball.
