Covid positive family next door accidentally threw ball into my tiny garden

It bounced and rolled.I'm CEV.

Do I:

  1. Chuck it back and ask then not to kick the ball against my fence but on the other side to the non-CEV neighbours!
  2. Say nothing, but wear gloves and then wash my hands thoroughly and spray the grass with dettol kitchen spray
  3. Put a knife in it, and bin it, like DH suggests
  4. Stroll out there and simply chuck it back and don't worry, it's outdoors, just wash my hands with soap and that's it.

PS, I wouldn't really take option 3, it must be hard for them being cooped up for 10 days over the summer holiday.

Option 4. It's airborne, not football-borne.

Serenissima21 · 03/08/2021 11:38

4!

StuffCovid · 03/08/2021 11:39

I was thinking if they wiped their nose and picked up the ball... then it came flying over to me...

You aren't going to get covid off a football OP. Just wash your hands.

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 11:40

I'd go for 4. Putting a knife in it is a bit weird and involves even more handling of it than chucking it back. I doubt they are licking the ball or anything.

or

  1. Leave it there for a bit?
Notebooksarefabulous · 03/08/2021 11:40

Throw it back and wash your hands. I wouldnt worry anymore than that unless you plan to lick the grass the ball rolled on...........

Scarby9 · 03/08/2021 11:40
Wash your hands thoroughly. If (and it's a big if) any virus was on the ball and transferred to your hands, the soap will remove it. That's what soap does. What do you do with shopping? If you have it delivered and only touch it with gloves, I suppose you could put gloves on to throw ths all back. But leave the grsss alone!
TeddyBeans · 03/08/2021 11:40

I'd do 4 but in your shoes probably 2 minus spraying the grass...

  1. If it was that easily transmissible you’re going to get it at some point anyway.
Passthecontrol · 03/08/2021 11:41

The virus doesn't enter through your skin fgs. Just throw it back and wash your hands. I assume you're not planning to shove your hand in your mouth straight after picking up the ball?

feejee · 03/08/2021 11:41

Throw it back. Just dont lick your fingers before you've washed your hands.

Noluthando · 03/08/2021 11:42

Leave it until they ask for it back then throw it back and wash your hands

onebeauplace · 03/08/2021 11:42

The risk of surface transmission is basically nil. That's why it's completely ridiculous that train companies employ people to wipe down the poles and seats but don't have the windows open.

Ventilation is key. Constant sanitising and worrying about touching surfaces has got nothing to do with anything. They were outside in their garden, not inside your kitchen.

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 11:43

Huge problem there. Doorbell transmission.
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 03/08/2021 11:44

Throw it back and wash your hands. you honestly don't need to sterilise the grass unless you're planning to eat it.

Or let them get it themselves, assuming they don't need to walk through your house.

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/08/2021 11:44

Number 3 is absolute dickhead behaviour.

Branleuse · 03/08/2021 11:44

id wear gloves and go get it and throw it back, and write a note asking for them to be extra careful

You. Aren't. Going. To. Get. Covid. Off. A. Ball.

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 11:46

Have any studies been done of 'ball transmission' though?

Geamhradh · 03/08/2021 11:47
Probably without the handwashing bit.
ToomuchHeat · 03/08/2021 11:47

If you get it on your hands and eat it will you catch it? I thought it's if you pick your nose or rub your eyes - those are ways of the virus entering your system?

User5827372728 · 03/08/2021 11:47

I would throw it back then wash my hands and not think about it ever again

onebeauplace · 03/08/2021 11:48

Of course you can catch it if you "eat it". But the changes of getting it from a surface are vanishingly slim.

Are people really this ill-informed?

LadyCatStark · 03/08/2021 11:49
  1. Balls coming over the fence is to be expected in an area with lots of houses and your DH is being a dick. Like you say, it must be really hard for the family to stay at home for 10 days.
