@1starwars2

Up to 900 cases per 100k, and rising, where I live. It's the highest its ever been, so probably depends on where you live.
It was almost 1500/100k where I am a couple of weeks ago, now it's 850/100k. Still horribly high but coming down all the time. Hopefully it'll start heading in the right direction where you are soon, too.

My guess is that people aren't testing anymore. They don't want to miss out on the opening up and don't see the point now that restrictions are ending anyway.

Tealightsandd · 25/07/2021 21:29

I'd better get a white horse.

The lone ranger of Covid posts (In the UK).

Oh no but does that mean if I'm the outlier, I'm not a sheep? I like sheep.

Enjoy the thread. I'm off to look at some horses (maybe sheep too). Smile

Jamieson90 · 25/07/2021 21:46

This is why the positivity rate is so important.

The drop in positive cases despite the lifting of restrictions can probably be attriubted to the following factors.

People don't want to have to risk isolating when they have holidays planned. Same for those uninstalling the app.

Schools closing will naturally have an impact. Yes some schools have only just closed, but others have been closed for awhile now.

As a result of the 'pingdemic' we have a lot less staff and supplies getting tests where they need to be. Less tests means less people being tested.

Bordois · 25/07/2021 21:54

@3asAbird

School holidays Bristol started wed and thur just gone. Cases still rising. 50% City double jabbed. We not on area of concern yet despite massively high 1000plus cases in some suburbs. Local hospital struggling.

Bath also rising.

Looks like cases in Bristol and Bath have started to drop over the last few days, in line with whats happening throughout the country

It’s great news. If hospitalisations and deaths start to drop n the next 7 days or so then we’ll know it’s a real drop and nothing to do with schools, nightclubs or testing.

Bordois · 25/07/2021 22:02

Hospital admissions are dropping in Scotland in line with their cases. No reason why similar wont happen in England too

The test will be on Tuesday when we generally have the highest figures. I have my fingers crossed.

3asAbird · 25/07/2021 22:13

Why are the council telling us its continually rising?
Whys our r rate infection per 100k days over 7days rising?
Know so many people with covid this wave.

1starwars2 · 25/07/2021 22:18

@3asaBird Depends where you live, the curve is still upwards in some areas.

Because it looks as if their figures are up to 16th July and its been the last week that figures have started to drop.

They thought we would peak some point I August, why is it such a disbelief if we peak a week early I don't get it?
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 25/07/2021 22:46

Schools have been closed in many places for at least a week and many aren’t testing so they can go on holiday or to events.

Pootle40 · 25/07/2021 22:50

@TheVampiresWife

Also, it's funny how the statistics are 'meaningless' when they show cases decreasing, and are absolutely 100% to be believed when they're rocketing Confused

What's your reasoning behind Scotland hospital admissions dropping then considering there cases have been dropping and we seem to be a couple of weeks behind them?
TheVampiresWife · 25/07/2021 22:55

As I've said - schools have only been closed for a couple of days where I am, but numbers have been falling for over a week.

And people have been going to events/on holiday for quite some time now. I thought you had to test if you were travelling overseas anyway?

Well a lot of discussion was around footie get together fuelling cases in Scotland.

As regards schools, a quick check suggests Scottish schools finished at the end of June, so if that is a factor we might well be 2 or 3 weeks behind them?

but I would be interested to hear other thoughts

herecomesthsun · 25/07/2021 23:02

@TheVampiresWife

Re schools - many schools in England have been closed for more than a week, some whole schools and some whole years out, because of covid, bubbles bursting etc.

Schools in higher rate areas would have been more likely to shut and that would have had more of an effect.

Private schools in England generally shut a couple of weeks ago and a few shut before that.

Universities have been out for some weeks now and their clientele had the highest covid rate in the ONS survey up to July 17th, so what is happening with that age group is probably relevant.

Smile very good news, and nothing's gonna bring me down Smile

2X4B523P · 25/07/2021 23:03

Certainly looks promising and I hope the drop continues despite the varying reduction from the 19th in the use of perhaps the best tool we have against the virus.

...and the result is the same: Lower case numbers. Which is excellent news.

By the time schools return almost every adult who wants to be fully vaccinated will be, and there will be even greater immunity from past infections in all age groups. So (hopefully!) infections in schools will not be as high as they were pre-summer.

I've just read that it's the first time that cases have fallen on so many consecutive days since February, and the first time it's happened when we've not been in a lockdown.
