SJ coming under fire from many for his tweet yesterday following his full recovery from his Covid-19 diagnosis. As Health Secretary he should have chosen his words more carefully and been more sensitive to those who lost loved ones, suffering long covid etc

Do you think that MPs profiting from government deals is a bad thing, Clav? Do you think that they shouldn't hand out contracts to mates?

That depends. Personally, I would pass on the name of a contact who might be able to help in an emergency - and I don't care if this company (mentioned in Byline Times) has links to a Tory donor - why would you not VIP 'the world’s largest procurement consultancy'? Scroll down for list of clients;

As for Kate Bingham -

The Good Law Project Jobs for their mates: We’re suing.
Kate Bingham heads up Britain’s vaccine task force. She’s a venture capitalist with no public health experience, married to a Conservative minister...

June 2021
The Good Law Project has dropped its legal challenge to the government’s recruitment of Kate Bingham as chair of the vaccines taskforce...Jolyon Maugham, director of the GLP, said the process for appointing Bingham, while it did not follow an open advertising process, had been better than expected.

I think some people are very happy to see MP's bypassing a more transparent, established & accountable systems. See also private email accounts.

I'm sure that businesses that have decent trading histories & expertise in their sectors can be found.

No need to pass on names of friends/family/extended family of SPADS/pub landlords.

Handing PPE contracts to companies with no PPE experience who fail to deliver?

I wonder how it feels to be defending this indefensible government. They are so blatantly corrupt, incompetent liars.

Handing PPE contracts to companies with no PPE experience who fail to deliver?

Which companies were you thinking of in particular? Pestfix, for example, claim they did deliver to government specifications at the time.

And it appears to be a myth that the government overlooked PPE manufacturers in the UK;

Prior to the pandemic, just 1% of PPE used in the UK was produced domestically.

I am very perplexed in the costings (£30 billion PLUS) for a unfit for purpose test, track and trace system run by political connected mates on the all you can eat at our expense gravy train - while non corrupt or focused on the job nations have implemented a system which works, saved lives and for peanuts. Here we have found a mysterious new magic money tree so borrowed off the scale national debt and despite this possibly money laundering investment multilevel marketing Ponzi scheme - still have a dangerous unfit for purpose deadly joke of an attempt to do the same but is not funny for those who have suffered in this pandemic. Corruption plus incompetent indifference costs lives not just money we don’t have for the NHS etc. Alexander Johnson has as expected appointed mates to over sea any scrutiny - akin to marking your own homework or a health minister taking liberties as a default gaslighting position and prerequisite job requirement.

Is a certain poster here actually you Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson? If so we don’t want you any more of your de Pfeffel Flu Johnson variants thanks!

My son uses the "Billy does it too..." argument with me. I always ask why his standards aren't a bit higher than Billy's.

My son uses the "Billy does it too..."

Do you have the costings for test, track and trace in other countries?

Notonthestairs · 25/07/2021 16:10

I was referring to your May list of 2007.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 25/07/2021 16:11

Try South Korea or Taiwan for size. Less government financial investment and less lives and livelihoods lost. Just government doing governance in a global pandemic.

USA is possibly worst in breed opposite to best in breed governance.

USA also has an infamous recent former leader who is in a separate class of his own bad and even makes Alexander Johnson looks a bit more polished with a bit more of clue and even possibly a little emphatic in comparison.

When you want to be good at something it’s better to look at those with a proven track record and not to pick a worst case and say we are not that bad really.

buffyajp · 25/07/2021 16:12

@foxandbee

Like all the supid posters on here who berate people for "cowering behind the sofa", he is a Grade A arsehole.
And what about the stupid posters who want us all to stay locked down for a virus that is now killing very few with no thought to other Illnesses or the economy. We berate politicians for lying and then when they tell the truth sill berate them. I have sympathy for people who have lost people to Covid but the hypocrisy on here is unreal. Before Covid no one would bat an eyelid at anyone who made the same comments about flu yet that kills thousands every year too. No one cares about their loved ones it seems. All illnesses deserve to be treated as important and worthy of consideration not just Covid. And that includes mental health.
noblegiraffe · 25/07/2021 16:17

Clav so you agree that the current government are corrupt, incompetent liars but think if you can find any other examples of corruption in other countries or parties it will suddenly be acceptable in our current government?

Clavinova · 25/07/2021 16:20

Try South Korea or Taiwan for size. Less government financial investment and less lives and livelihoods lost. Just government doing governance in a global pandemic.

I discussed those countries earlier in the thread - fine if you want to go down that route...

Are you suggesting Joe Biden is corrupt now?

noblegiraffe · 25/07/2021 16:25

I was talking about your accusation from Theresa May that Gordon Brown’s government was sleazy.

If it was, do you think that excuses Johnson’s government from being corrupt, incompetent liars? Is that the argument you were trying to make?

If not, what was your argument when you posted that link?

foxandbee · 25/07/2021 16:34

@buffyajp wanting to proceed carefully (continue mask wearing for example) is not wanting to go back into a lockdown. No-one wants that. Can you quote me a poster that has said that?

Comparing flu and covid...well that is like comparing apples with oranges, well that has all been hashed out ad nauseum on these boards.

I agree that getting other NHS services going again and keeping them going is vital. These will be further compromised if covid surges out of control again. So proceeding carefully is not "cowering". It is sensible.

Clavinova · 25/07/2021 16:37

Johnson is though.

And probably Hancock who was in government till very recently.

noblegiraffe · 25/07/2021 16:42

Quite clearly I don't think Johnson's government are corrupt, incompetent liars.

Why not? I mean, that Johnson is a liar is indisputable. That handing government contracts to mates via private channels is corrupt. That discharging positive cases to care homes was (at best) incompetent.

I’m not defending the Brown government so why you think bringing it up is relevant in any way is unclear.
