I understand why people are against vaccine passports, but a lot of those most vocal against it are the usual crowd who have been anti-lockdown and anti-mask throughout (and often anti-vaccine). They won't accept vaccine passports but will be the first to complain if and when nightclubs are forced to close again due to the impact of the virus which without vaccines would already be a lot worse with the Delta variant.

They can't always have it both ways.

Double vaccinated people are less likely to both be infected by and transmit coronavirus, which will therefore reduce transmission in crowded spaces

And people who have not been vaccinated and have had Covid within at least the last 9 months are even less likely to spread it

Dh (double vaccinated) has already been called back for his booster, end of August/early September

@Bythemillpond

There's a fair bit of evidence demonstrating that on a group level, vaccination gives a better immune response than infection.

This isn't surprising as with vaccination you give are able to give a high dose of antigen in a controlled setting, in infection it just simply whatever viral load you were exposed to. If you've caught coronavirus in a situation where there was a low exposure (i.e., supermarket), this tends to translate to a poorer immune response. Conversely, when you look at the immune responses of HCPs, they tend to be robust and long lasting, which makes sense given they have high and repeated exposure.

Neither gives an excellent immune response which is the frustrating thing about coronaviruses, hence the need for boosters.

The government confirmed that the testing option would be removed. As a vaccinated person can still catch and transmit the virus, this measure is pure control and coercion. Simple as that.

@leafyygreens
Your posts seem to indicate you know much much more than the average person about covid.
Are you a government minister?

urm not sure how to respond to this beyond the fact that I don't think government ministers know more than the average person about COVID Grin

I work as a research scientist in a health related field

MistressoftheDarkSide · 20/07/2021 18:34

Removing the negative test option is what makes this non-sensical as vaccination does not eliminate transmission.

Unless this is an admission that tests are too unreliable to be protective, and that there is no trust in the population to apply them honestly and accurately. In which case, why isn't more money and research going into state of the art testing that can be applied at venues easily?

These are the things I ponder.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 20/07/2021 18:36

I suppose if you exclude the unvaccinated then it will give some useful data on transmission rates in the vaccinated though. In which case there should be unvaccinated only events for comparison. Maybe we're all going to be Guinea pigs..... one way or another.

I’d say the vast majority of what the government do is embarrassing…

Againstmachine · 20/07/2021 20:20

@MercyBooth

I posted earlier "What happens when they decide to make them mandatory for pubs/restaurants then shops, then supermarkets, then to leave the house, you will wish you spoke up at the beginning"

It's frightening that we are ignoring the parallel with history.

Thewiseoneincognito · 20/07/2021 20:29

Very interesting slow release of places that will require vaccination for entry. Nightclubs and football stadiums, plenty of vaccine hesitant people will frequent them and will now face a very troubling decision. I wonder when beauty salons and cafes can demand vaccinated only patrons?

What will count as vaccinated though? what if you don’t take your booster as and when they demand it, you’re then black listed? The promise of normality is too tempting for so many people, once they realise it’ll never come what will happen?

This is the first few steps down a very sinister path. People think Covid is over. Hell, it’s just getting started.

Covid is a useful enemy at moment.

All getting worse and worse.
I do notice more and more are waking up thankfully, including in this thread.
I almost feel though, that it is already too late in some ways.

The ways in which the government are getting away with things is almost unbelievable. Right in front of our own noses.

Collectively, we are acting blind.

MaxNormal · 20/07/2021 21:18

Thewiseoneincognito I'm sure I used to disagree with your posts and I just read that one and... total agreement.

RolloTomassi · 20/07/2021 21:26

The only thing worse than this unfair, pointless, punitive policy are the gleefully supportive and shortsighted comments I'm seeing all over social media. Some people have lost their damn minds.

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:27

@RolloTomassi this year has taught me that people are thick as mince

RolloTomassi · 20/07/2021 21:35

@WouldBeGood god, yes. And inexplicably arrogant.

FlyLight · 20/07/2021 21:41

So how will this work then? What happens when someone is more than six months post jabs, is it no good anymore? Are people going to have to get two jabs every single year to access social events even if they're low risk? It's utterly nonsensical to have a jab only policy when they don't eliminate catching or transmitting the virus. People have lost their damn minds

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:42

The world has gone completely mad.

What do you mean 6 months Dh has been called to have his booster after 3 months

FlyLight · 20/07/2021 23:11

Well presuming boosters aren't offered to everyone there'll come a time when it will have been six months since being double jabbed for some people, will the vaccine passport run out then? Will everyone be forced into having annual jabs to live any kind of normal life?
