I live in France and Macron has just made a speech saying that from the end of July, vaccination or a negative test is going to be compulsory for cultural and entertainment venues. From August, it’ll be compulsory for cafes and restaurants too. This applies to all 12+.

PCR tests will become paid as of September, to encourage vaccination.

I’m already vaccinated, thankfully, and I do think it’s necessary to contain the delta variant. But wowza, I’m waiting to hear the backlash in the morning. Macron is up for reelection next year as well, they must be very desperate to contain this…

I agree with Macron.

It is a crazy and somehow dystopian world now and to get back to a semblance of our life pre-2020, we need to make COVID an illness like many others, universal but not overly deadly.
If the only way is vaccination , so be it.

*illegible ffs. It's late.

I'm vaccinated and still caught covid which may give me positive tests for up to 3 months!

Yeah, but you’ve got proof of your vaccine so you’re considered ‘safe’.
Sunshinegirl82 · 17/07/2021 13:04

Vaccinated people are safer than the unvaccinated in terms of transmission. That's a fact.

If we accept that current levels of isolation for close contacts are unsustainable but you want to continue to minimise transmission then allowing those who are double vaccinated not to have to isolate makes sense. It's logical.

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 13:18

‘Safer’ . There are plenty of unvaccinated people who are immune after infection. They’re ‘safer’ too but unless they have proof of a recent positive test to indicate recovery they can’t be exempt.

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 13:25

It is a crazy and somehow dystopian world

And vaccine passports to enter shops, restaurants and access public transport is going to make it less crazy and dystopian? Confused

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/07/2021 13:30

Vaccination is easier to evidence than infection, it is what it is.

sleepwouldbenice · 17/07/2021 13:51

Keep on popping back on this thread

Still trying to understand the argument against this. Denmark model seems to work well. If you can’t or won’t be vaccinated I do support that, it is your choice

But a free test twice a week instead. Then everyone then benefits from more freedom and at least some release from all the pain covid is bringing the world

Why is that so bad?

LittleRed53 · 17/07/2021 14:17

It has been interesting to see how many people have booked/had a first vaccine already since the announcement- to me, that indicates that a lot of unvaccinated people in France were just putting it off for various reasons, and now this has motivated them to get on with it.

Time will tell how many are actually truly opposed to getting it, and how much more authoritarianism will be necessary to 'persuade' those people.

Still waiting on a lot of details of exactly how the pass will be implemented and in what situations. I found just one newspaper article that said religious gatherings would be exempt, but haven't found confirmation of that anywhere else. Likewise the issue of supermarkets within shopping centres, and whether it's just hospitals or all medical facilities...

I wonder how close to the wire it will be to get these details.

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 14:20

Yes, unfair.

They may need to consider testing vaccinated people twice a week too given the transmissibility of delta even In vaccinated people.
MaxNormal · 17/07/2021 14:22

I see Sajid Javid his just tested positive after a double jag. Along with a good few people I know.
I'm sorry but vaccine passports are utter bollox, they're not going to keep anybody safe. Most sensible would be to test everybody twice weekly if you're that concerned, but of course that removes the big stick.

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/07/2021 14:24

Life is unfair. It's a pragmatic way forward and has the added advantage of encouraging vaccination, makes sense to me.

sleepwouldbenice · 17/07/2021 14:27

Well yes they might do at some stage, so what?
At the moment they are happy with the statistics regarding transmission, infection, illness and hospitalization if you've had a vaccine v if you havent. Maybe this will change when more stats come in or immunity wanes
Just don't see your point?

This exactly!!!

Trying to coerce people who are very low risk into having a vaccine so they don’t have to isolate/test regularly is a terrible idea.

ilovesooty · 17/07/2021 16:04

Speaking to my friend who is a jeweller in Greece she should me her printed vaccination papers : one Greek one European. She has to keep them in the shop for inspection at any time. It's also compulsory to load your vaccination status online. Greece of course now asks for proof of vaccination to access indoor amenities such as restaurants but I don't think it's actually come in yet.

She says it's ceased to be much of a topic of conversation. Her impression is that they can't understand the UK people being so obsessed and the few vaccine refusers she's aware of are simply regarded as rather strange.

ilovesooty · 17/07/2021 16:05

showed me

sleepwouldbenice · 17/07/2021 17:46

It really isn't that much to ask
But you've said repeatedly you only do things for you and family so I am not suprised

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 17/07/2021 18:16

So your friend in Greece says it’s ceased to be a topic of conversation and doesn’t understand the UK obsession but she’s showing you her vaccination papers and discussing it with you. Hmm Sure.

ilovesooty · 17/07/2021 18:39

She said it wasn't much of a topic of conversation these days - not as much as it used to be. She was asking me how things were in the UK.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 17/07/2021 18:45

And showing you her papers. And saying how unvaccinated people were seen as strange. It’s just another dig at unvaccinated people. As if Greece has anything at all for us to envy.

ilovesooty · 17/07/2021 18:50

If you say so. I really can't be bothered to get into a discussion about it. After all, I've already made my opinion of the wilfully unvaccinated quite clear.
SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 17/07/2021 18:58

You’ll just keep getting your petty digs in any way you can. How sad this is what some people do when they can’t accept others choices about their bodies.
