2 jabs… anyone had both and still caught Covid?

Just wondering if I can still get Covid and how bad it is if fully vaccinated. Anyone out there with experience of this? Also who are all these people going to be with Covid over the next few weeks as I hear cases are doubling fortnightly - how many vaccinated people hmmm.

COVID-19 becoming ‘a pandemic of the unvaccinated,’ warns CDC director

Nearly all hospital admissions and deaths, she says, are among the unvaccinated.

Seems like, so far in America, Pfizer and Moderna are highly effective at preventing serious illness and death.

When supplies are less tight in the UK, it might be a good idea giving mRNA boosters to people who've had AZ. Particularly the over 40s and clinically vulnerable.

It's worth doing regardless - as studies have suggested an AZ first dose followed by mRNA second dose gives strong protection.

I hoped my suspicions were wrong but unfortunately looks like I might be right?
I wonder which vaccines were given to the fully jabbed hospitalisations and deaths.

I think that, when supplies allow, we should look into getting 40+ and CV/CEV who've had AZ in for Pfizer or Moderna boosters.

Of course it might be instead that the vaccinated hospitalisations and deaths are in the partially vaccinated. A single dose isn't enough.

According to the Public Health England report though, majority of hospitalised are unvaccinated yet majority of deaths are vaccinated, mostly in those who had 2 injections.

I wonder if it’s different in other countries

We certainly should and I hope the public health advisors who decide on these matters are keeping a close eye on this thread.

Seriously though, I never expected my 2 jabs to give me immunity but to lessen the severity of symptoms which is what seems to be happening. I will continue to use common sense by socially distancing, wearing a mask if this isn't possible and much hand washing. I'm a great believer in personal responsibility.

Many younger vaccinated people now catching covid but experiencing mild symptoms might have only experienced mild symptoms anyway even if not vaccinated. Data specifically related to older or clinically vulnerable groups would be interesting. Restrictions have meant many people in these groups have not yet been exposed to the virus.

My dad has just tested positive. He had a cold with none of the big 3 symptoms. His cold only lasted 2 days and he is feeling better now.

He is over a month post 2nd jab.

TierdOfLockdown · 17/07/2021 09:58

He is in his 50s and had AZ

Mummasdiary2021 · 17/07/2021 10:02

My cousin is double vaccinated and has just been admitted to hospital with covid. She's in a bad state (however not life threatening)

StealthPolarBear · 17/07/2021 12:35

Hope your cousin improves quickly
