2 jabs… anyone had both and still caught Covid?

Just wondering if I can still get Covid and how bad it is if fully vaccinated. Anyone out there with experience of this? Also who are all these people going to be with Covid over the next few weeks as I hear cases are doubling fortnightly - how many vaccinated people hmmm.

I don't know why people are surprised that you can still catch it after 2 jabs. Protection against infection is between 60% and 90% according to the data we have so far.

Brits fully-vaccinated with AstraZeneca's Covid jab may be up to THREE TIMES more likely to get symptoms if infected than those who got Pfizer's, say SAGE estimates

Potential implications for Long Covid risks.

I would caution drawing too many conclusions about the difference between AZ and Pfizer. The data I posted above from sage for AZ is low confidence. I think we have much more hard data on Pfizer at this stage.

@Theredjellybean

Mn is odd... I am double jabbed, as are all family, all dds, and all my friends and colleagues.. I work in health care... Currently vaccination lead and out of hours gp. I don't know a singke person who has caught covid after dble jabs. I haven't had a single patient either. I also vaccinate about 80 people a day, it's unusual to have more than one or two say they have had covid at any point (it's a screening question). Baffling that on Mn... There are so many people who know people who have had it post vaccination.
Until yesterday I would have said I didn't know anyone who'd caught it after being double jabbed (I don't work in healthcare though) but then 5 colleagues who are double jabbed tested positive yesterday morning. Plus 7 who have only had the first jab. We're in a secondary school, where cases have risen so rapidly that we've had to close to pupils now because there were so many cases (and attendance was down to 10% in person yesterday from 90% attendance on Friday)

I agree too early to say. And hopefully the AZ boost to T cells will help. But I think it's important that contingency plans are drawn up - for potential mRNA (or perhaps tweaked AZ) boosters. Better to hope for the best but prepare for the worse just in case.

CupoTeap · 16/07/2021 07:14

@TakeTimeForU

A breakdown of the vaccinated going into hosp or dying is very important. I would like to know this. I don’t want to be having boosters etc when I can still catch Covid. Seems silly. I might be someone who was never going to die or end up in hospital anyway. Seems like u have to make a choice on the what if
Chris shorty went through this on Monday do it should be there for you to locate
StealthPolarBear · 16/07/2021 07:32

Oh no MsAwesomeDragon! Does that take you to the end of term?

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/07/2021 07:40

Yes, last day is today. So we're setting remote learning for everyone today (as if any of them are going to bother). It's a really rubbish end to the year. Sad

StealthPolarBear · 16/07/2021 07:44

Yes it really is

I would argue the best form of preparedness is not to open up for mass infections in the first place. Though now a govt minister has said restrictions might be re introduced - what a fucking mess!

To get boosters into the the first 9 at risk groups (let alone everyone else) will take many months.

If boosters are the chosen route, then they need to start right now, not end of September/october to coincide with the flu vaccine.

TomAllenWife · 16/07/2021 08:28

Yes DP had covid in January, two AZ jabs since and has now tested positive again

StealthPolarBear · 16/07/2021 10:50

Ia he unwwll? Hope not

HelloMissus · 16/07/2021 12:49

My DD’s friend aged 22 got Covid after both Pfizer vaccinations. He felt pretty ropey, but is better now.

HelloMissus · 16/07/2021 12:49

Should have said he had both vaccinations early because his dad is CEV.

Picklesthecat · 16/07/2021 13:01

@Tealightsandd

It would be helpful to know vaccine breakdown for the fully jabbed deaths. Perhaps in fact it might reassure people. I've seen a number of people expressing concerns over it's perceived lower efficacy. (of course, if the data does indicate lower efficacy, we should aim to mRNA booster the AZ jabbed vulnerable asap).

Delta is fast becoming the dominant strain in America. We shall see over the coming weeks, but for now 99.5% of the deaths are in the unvaccinated over there.

Recent study I read yesterday suggests vulnerable are less protected by AZ. I'll link later as need to get on now.

As someone CV (and under 40) who had AZ jabs, I have been hoping for a Pfizer booster. I don’t know if that’s realistic but even “mild” colds have led to hospital stays for me so I don’t feel very confident at the moment. Certainly I do not feel as protected as my peers who are not CEV or CV and have had Pfizer or Moderna.
Beamur · 16/07/2021 13:07

Friend of mine (30's Pfizer vaccine) caught it recently. Felt mildly unwell (like a cold or hay fever) for a few days. Fine now.

JaninaDuszejko · 16/07/2021 13:07

DH has Covid but no symptoms. He had his second jab a month ago.

DD2 had a positive LFT so we all had a PCR test. DD2 and DH both positive, me and DD1 negative. DD2 is at school and unvaccinated and has had mild cold symptoms.

Mrsfussypants1 · 16/07/2021 21:31

I'm from the North East too, DH Az double jabbed woke up this morning with a splitting headache and sneezing, he never gets headaches so did LF test, Positive, we're booked for a PCR in the morning. He's in and out of sleep and not feeling great at all, I've not known him to be wiped out like this before.

StealthPolarBear · 16/07/2021 21:43

Sorry fussy :( hope you escape it.

inappropriateraspberry · 16/07/2021 21:58

It doesn't make you invincible! I can't stand seeing all these people walking around saying 'It's ok, I'm double jabbed!' You can still catch it. Granted, the symptoms will be milder and it's very unlikely you'll end up in hospital. BUT you could still then pass it on to someone else, who is vulnerable or un-vaccinated.

Mrsfussypants1 · 16/07/2021 22:19

Thanks Stealth. I don't want what he has! Hopefully he'll be alright in a few days and we'll be doing a bit of decorating while we are under isolation.

overwork · 16/07/2021 22:30

My household has it, one fully jabbed with no symptoms, one only had one jab so far and has had what could be described as a nasty cold with lots of sleeping. It doesn't make you invisible, but from my straw pol of precisely 2 people, it would seem having the vaccine makes Covid easier to deal with

jajabanks · 16/07/2021 22:44

Yep! Had both jabs and still caught it.

Hellcatspangle · 16/07/2021 22:55

That's interesting, as all the jabbed people I know locally who have covid (or have in the last four weeks) are people who are in their late 40's/early 50's and had AZ. None of my parents friends (over 70 who got Pfizer) have had it.
