2 jabs… anyone had both and still caught Covid?

Just wondering if I can still get Covid and how bad it is if fully vaccinated. Anyone out there with experience of this? Also who are all these people going to be with Covid over the next few weeks as I hear cases are doubling fortnightly - how many vaccinated people hmmm.

Dh was just very tired and slept a lot.

ExamStress2021 · 12/07/2021 20:33

A colleague of mine is currently quite poorly, was taken to hospital via ambulance and although has now returned home, a few weeks later is still too poorly to think about returning to work.

MoreHairyThanScary · 12/07/2021 22:00

Colleague of mine double jabbed off work healthcare feeling really unwell with it.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 12/07/2021 22:13

I had covid after being vaccinated. If I hadn’t had a positive PCR I’d have assumed it was just 2 or 3 days of bad hay fever. DH was much more ill though. Fever/shivers/lethargy for almost the entire 10d isolation period.

Janedownourlane · 12/07/2021 22:14

@deux Hope you dont mind me asking, but how long did your DH have those symptoms? Only I had exactly the same for a couple of days, took paracetamol for a day and was then fine. At first I thought it was hayfever, but it was definitely the awful feeling at the back of my nose that I was getting a cold.
I didnt test as I didnt know that the Delta symptoms were different. DP was fine, didnt catch anything. We are both double vaccinated since the middle of June.

Imnothereforthedrama · 12/07/2021 22:23

So those that have had both jabs haven’t been particularly ill ? So why are people still frightened?.

TakeTimeForU · 12/07/2021 23:13

Because I dont want this nasty disease full stop. Does long Covid exist for fully vaccinated -

I know 9 people at the moment with covid- 4 youngsters so unvaccinated, 5 double vaccinated adults. Two of the adults have been really ill with it.

clpsmum · 12/07/2021 23:27

I caught it the day I had the second vaccine

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 12/07/2021 23:56

I had my second vaccine in may and had positive PCR last week. I felt like I had a really bad cold, very shivery and snotty. I've been exhausted for 2 weeks and felt dreadful, also lost taste and smell although thankfully taste is coming back now. I'm mid 40s and had Astra Zeneca. I'm on the mend now after 2 weeks but it's not been nice.

“In America, 99.5% of the deaths are now in the unvaccinated. Whereas here in the UK, around 30-40% are double jabbed.”

Where did you get the 30-40% of deaths being double jabbed from?

This data from PHE shows there have been 257 deaths from Delta variant of which 118 were fully vaccinated and 92 were unvaccinated. The rest were partially vaxxed.
That’s 46% of all Delta deaths being fully vaccinated and 36% unvaccinated.

I know more people who've had it since having both vaccines than before - but then the Delta variant is meant to be more transmissible and most of them have gone back to working and commuting etc. They've all had mild or no symptoms. In the meantime I've had the mother of all colds but consistent negative tests despite having some of the symptoms.

I can understand why you don’t want it nobody wants a virus or to isolate . My question was why are people still frightened even after 2 jabs ?
CrouchEndTiger12 · 13/07/2021 07:28

No but my friends mum did and she was fine. Mild symptoms

It makes sense though that more people have caught it , we are in a 3rd wave we a mixing more than the other 2 waves / less restrictions it’s more transmissible . It doesn’t mean the vaccine will stop you catching it just less likely and also less likely to get seriously ill .

Same, I also know more people who've caught it this time around. I'm hopeful that being doubled jabbed will mean it'll be closer to a cold or maybe flu if I catch it, rather than something that may put me in hospital. @TakeTimeForU having boosters will be important. I expect we'll be offered yearly boosters from now on.

I'd like to actually see the stats for the US but there doesn't seem to be any, its all based on interviews but not backed up. Seems strange that the number would be so different than the UK and Israel.

Hotcuppatea · 13/07/2021 07:54

I have a few friends that have, but all just have what feels like bad colds.

Also we have no idea how many of these are true...
StealthPolarBear · 13/07/2021 07:56

Me at the moment. Had second jab last Thursday (so wouldn't havr kicked in yet), tested positive yesterday. So far like a cold.

Cookerhood · 13/07/2021 07:58

The Guardian had an article by a statistician about % of deaths in the vaccinated, I'll see if I can find it. Basically what you are aiming for is 100% of deaths to be in the vaccinated. The higher percentage of people who are vaccinated, the more likely that deaths will be in the vaccinated. It's possible as well (I don't know) that other countries count their deaths differently (of Covid/with Covid etc).

Ratched · 13/07/2021 08:02

Yes, I have it now. In isolation until Sunday.
Had both jabs, second one in May.
It's not that bad, just like a heavy cold - absolutely wiped out for one day, just slept, then was okay.

Looking back, after my first Az jab, I had the same reaction for a few days - so if you felt crap after your first jab, that is basically how I felt.

HoikingUpMyBigGirlPantss · 13/07/2021 08:03

3 friends have tested positive after being double jabbed but thankfully have had very mild symptoms, more like a heavy cold.

Blankspace4 · 13/07/2021 08:03

No one wants to be ill. And it’s very easy to call out ‘flu like symptoms’ in a casual way…until you have flu like symptoms and they are horrible and you feel rotten. Also trying to go about daily life with complete exhaustion. For those of us WFH there is often an expectation people carry on even when in isolation. And then there’s the fear of long covid which seems to be getting more prevalent. I’ve been double jabbed and I really don’t want to get it. I had no idea until the press conference yesterday that having both jabs only makes you 50% less likely to contract it.
