2 jabs… anyone had both and still caught Covid?

Just wondering if I can still get Covid and how bad it is if fully vaccinated. Anyone out there with experience of this? Also who are all these people going to be with Covid over the next few weeks as I hear cases are doubling fortnightly - how many vaccinated people hmmm.

Interesting article from The Economist (in May) about the impact of covid on excess deaths by country (as different countries measure covid infection in different ways). Dont seem to be able to add the link here.
**@deux Hope you dont mind me asking, but how long did your DH have those symptoms? Only I had exactly the same for a couple of days, took paracetamol for a day and was then fine. At first I thought it was hayfever, but it was definitely the awful feeling at the back of my nose that I was getting a cold.
I didnt test as I didnt know that the Delta symptoms were different. DP was fine, didnt catch anything. We are both double vaccinated since the middle of June.
@Janedownourlane it was only 2 days and he tested on the second day, mostly because of his sneezing. He had a range of other symptoms after testing but none were pronounced or prolonged. It was like he cycled through symptoms rapidly. It was like, oh I’ve got a headache then it was gone a couple of hours later; oh I feel achy then gone quickly.

Are these positives all from LFTs? I'm wondering how people know they need a PCR if it just feels like a heavy cold?

Or is everyone doing regular LFTs / doing them with mild symptoms just to check.

Just a bit paranoid as I have a slight sore throat and coldy feeling in my nose, but LFT is negative. I'll try again tomorrow.

EL8888 · 13/07/2021 10:34

Colleague at work had it despite being double vaccinated. She didn’t feel that unwell but obviously self isolated

Mine was a PCR. I just knew it was different, for some reason I just knew. It was the complete exhaustion, the same as I had after the first jab. A full headache and a cough. Nothing dramatic, but for some reason I recognized it😷

DS double jabbed plus his 2 friends
ds felt really unwell for a couple of days it lingered for a few days more he has lost his sense of smell & taste
I read that the people who died in hospital where those who were either v elderly or had a issue with immunity before

MargaretThursday · 13/07/2021 11:20

I haven't known anyone with covid for ages. Now I've got 3 friends on fb all have tested positive in the last week.
All are double jabbed.
All caught it from their primary aged child.
All are in an area that's rising rapidly in the north.

Two of them sound like they're quite ill, the other described it as like a heavy cold.

I think the issue is that the symptoms of the delta variant are very different depending on vaccination status. So if you know what the symptoms are, you’re more likely to do a LFT. It’s only cos I’m on the ZOE symptom study that I was aware. DH otherwise would have just put it down to a cold. His LFT became positive as the liquid travelled up the test strip. It was immediate.
Shelby10 · 13/07/2021 11:31

Double jabbed. Myself and DH both currently recovering from Covid. A friend also double jabbed and had Covid last year before her jabs has just tested positive again. 2 family members also double jabbed also have it at present. Most of us okay ish, but DH very exhausted and usually very fit. Sister in law quite unwell and usually very fit.

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/07/2021 11:40

@Deax thank you, that's good to know. I'm also a Zoe user so aware of the change in symptoms, and now worried about every sniffle (which are common, as I have a child in nursery). I'll carry on doing regular LFTs.

@Ratched a friend who had it recently said the same, 'You'll know'. But with so many people on here saying it's just a mild cold, and as I keep catching colds off my son (all negative PCRs when needed), I'm a bit worried about missing it and passing it to vulnerable friends and family.

Shelby10 · 13/07/2021 11:46

All our laterals were negative apart from 1. All 3 in our house were ill so had PCRS and were all positive

TakeTimeForU · 14/07/2021 08:41

I don’t think the LFT’s are very accurate. My brother has Covid. He did loads of LFT’s all negative. Ordered a PCR and showed positive. Don’t know why they don’t just give out the pcr’s instead. People are going to assume they “just have a cold” or hayfever backed up with a negative lateral flow- mingle in society and therefore spread Covid.

I still haven’t had my second dose and it’s 15 wk gap now. I had AZ so petrified I’m going to feel so ill like when I had the first jab. Also sacred of the blood clot issue. I’m on the cusp of the age where it is not advised

I, and everyone I know, was fine with second AZ jab. Tbh, I forgot I'd even had it. But you say you felt crap after the first one I did too, and that is exactly how I felt when tested positive with covid. When people ask what it's like ( obviously different for everyone), that is the very best description I can give. But 2nd jab? Nah, piece of cake 😁
Blueberry40 · 14/07/2021 12:40

My mum is isolating with covid now. She had her second AZ jab a few months ago.

Blueberry40 · 14/07/2021 12:44

Just read your other message- I was really scared of having my second jab as well as had a few side effects after the first. I had it on Monday morning and have been absolutely fine, not even any tiredness. So much better than the first!

Also just wanted to say that I’m convinced my mum would have been a lot more ill with coronavirus had she not been fully vaccinated. She has a lot of factors that make her high risk but so far it has just been like a summer cold.

I am sitting in a house where everyone else has COVID. I thank the stars I am double vaccinated (with the AZ vaccine) - I have not caught it yet... honestly this virus is horrible
Lunificent · 15/07/2021 06:52

So when can you get a 3rd booster jab? I’m on chemotherapy and have had double AZ vaccine.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 15/07/2021 07:07

Andrew Marr has written on the BBC about catching covid after being double vaccinated. He said it was pretty unpleasant but bearable.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 15/07/2021 07:09

I had a horrible reaction to my first AZ and hardly any reaction to my second - I was really worried too.

DinosaurDiana · 15/07/2021 07:10

I know 2 people double jabbed that have it, and are unwell but at home.

Indigopearl · 15/07/2021 07:12

It looks like the vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic disease after 2 doses is between 70% and 95%. So worst case scenario 3 in 10 infected doubled vaccinated people will get symptoms. Best case scenario 1 in 20 will get symptoms.

2 jabs… anyone had both and still caught Covid?
Theredjellybean · 15/07/2021 07:21

Mn is odd...
I am double jabbed, as are all family, all dds, and all my friends and colleagues.. I work in health care... Currently vaccination lead and out of hours gp.
I don't know a singke person who has caught covid after dble jabs.
I haven't had a single patient either.
I also vaccinate about 80 people a day, it's unusual to have more than one or two say they have had covid at any point (it's a screening question).
Baffling that on Mn... There are so many people who know people who have had it post vaccination.

DinosaurDiana · 15/07/2021 07:25

Please don’t assume I’m lying, because I’m not.

bumblingbovine49 · 15/07/2021 07:28

They don't use AZ in the States so you can't say anything about how effective it is against serious symptoms from this story . Plus it is 6 people !

Covaxin is not the AZ one, it is one developed there . AZ is called Covishield in India
