We are going to Scotland on holiday so I guess I can’t fling mine away just yet

Solo · 14/07/2021 23:44

I will continue to wear my mask. I don't use public transport very often at all, but I shop in-store. I just don't think anyone should be taking the risk at this time.

I've noticed that since it was announced about the relaxation of the rules, more and more people are shopping maskless. I'm not risking relaxation of the rules.

CimCardashian · 14/07/2021 23:50

I will when I go on the tube. I’m undecided about shops!

I guess gradually I just won’t wear one but it will feel strange!

gardeninggirl68 · 15/07/2021 00:10

It's personal choice now

So I'm not wearing one. Other people have the choice to come out or shop online etc

So the vulnerable must be second class citizens and stay at home forever? So others can have every freedom ever. They have to be at risk if they have to take public transport to a vital medical appointment.

Thatcher be clapping in her grave.

There is no such thing as society.

Not wearing a mask is one thing but this attitude is on another level.

somuchcoffeeneeded · 15/07/2021 00:26

I’ll be wearing one. And I’ll be avoiding going to shops or anywhere crowded. There will be no helping the economy from me aside from online shopping.

southeastdweller · 15/07/2021 07:24

When do the mask wearers feel masks should be ditched? When cases drop a certain percentage? When there’s zero Covid? Because if anyone reading this thinks we should wear masks in shops/theatres etc forever that is some weird thinking.

Cannot wait for Monday.

UndercoverToad · 15/07/2021 07:47

@Againstmachine this is what Chris Whitty is saying:

His comments come just a day after Professor Chris Whitty made a stark warning about long covid.

He said: “Since there’s a lot of Covid at the moment and the rates are going up I regret to say I think we will get a significant amount more long Covid, particularly in the younger ages where the vaccination rates are currently much lower.

Funny how he mentions long Covid and not ‘post viral infection’ - or are you cherry picking to suit your anti mask agenda?

Covid is mild in most cases - for others it is deadly. THIS is the problem.

I will wear a mask to protect others.

UndercoverToad · 15/07/2021 07:50

33 000 children CHILDREN are currently diagnosed with LONG COVID.

UndercoverToad · 15/07/2021 07:51

And this rate will increase with unvaccinated children.

UndercoverToad · 15/07/2021 07:54

So don’t go on about it being mild, and ignore the devastating facts it is having on lives. Wearing a mask is such a simple thing to do and I think the selfish views on here are utterly appalling.

I don’t think we need masks forever but ditching them as cases are skyrocketing seems nuts.

They can go when the cases are right down and covid is only circulating at a low level.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 15/07/2021 08:01

DH & I will continue to wear masks until we feel it's ok not to. DH is asthmatic as is DS so we will continue to protect ourselves, and others by continuing to wear masks. I'm dreading the so called Freedom Day because it's going to make things far worse for the clinically vulnerable and we're going to be forced back indoors or risk our health.

louderthan · 15/07/2021 08:17

Yes 100%. On the train and at work, probably in shops too. Cases are twice the national average in my town and I work in a uni. We're absolutely dreading September.

ufucoffee · 15/07/2021 08:21

No

Notonthestairs · 15/07/2021 08:23

Yes.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 15/07/2021 08:27

*Masks haven’t been enforced on the underground anyway. I’d say about a quarter of passengers have already ditched them.
People can choose to be exempt.
And I hope a lot more will.
I certainly will.
Luckily yesterday the supermarket no longer had a bouncer on the door -much more civilised shopping experience.

Mask exempt people have been told to stay in/do all their shopping online/not to enter public places/stay off public transport/not to earn a living for a year now.

Shit, isn't it, @Wildewoodz?

TheVampiresWife · 15/07/2021 08:48

The WHO disagrees with you. It is a mild illness for the vast majority of people. So are things like chicken pox, and flu. And other viruses also carry the (small) risk of post-viral complications.

Or are you cherry picking to suit your own agenda?

(And don't bother calling me an anti-masker, I'm not, I've always said if you can wear a mask you should. But all this hyperbolic nonsense is utterly ridiculous.)

Wildewoodz · 15/07/2021 08:58

TheVampiresWife

No they haven’t. Mask exempt oriole are allowed everywhere without a mask. No one ever told them to stay home except in your mind.

I’m exempt so I know the rules but I always choose to wear a mask.

Wildewoodz · 15/07/2021 08:58

People not oriole. Spell check gone crazy.

PurpleDaisies · 15/07/2021 09:02

How can you be exempt if you are able to wear a mask? The whole point of the exemptions was for people who can’t wear them, which doesn’t appear to be you.

Have you been on MN in the past year?! Mask exempt people have been told continuously all of the above. Gaslight away but a quick search of mask threads prove quite easily that you're wrong and it's not 'in my mind'.

Also, if you're able to put on and wear a mask, you're not exempt. Exempt is defined as being unable to do to both and those who are cannot 'choose' otherwise.

UndercoverToad · 15/07/2021 09:25

From every version of Covid we’ve ever seen on the planet, we’ve got a rule of thumb that any case of Covid, whether it’s asymptomatic, mild, severe, or hospitalised, incurs a 10 to 20% risk of developing long Covid, and we haven’t seen any exceptions to that,” he said.

DoylyCarte · 15/07/2021 09:33

No I can’t breathe in them and have found them harder not easier over time. Can only tolerate for 5-10mins before needing air.

I wfh and live in an area where infections have always been low, rarely go anywhere busy or crowded.

Started getting heavily into lipstick c.Feb 2020 so looking forward to breathing and wearing lipstick while entering a restaurant. 😃
