App is asking him to self isolate for 8 days.

I know this has been done to death but it’s stressing me / us out as got so many plans I’ve the next week and can’t work out whether that’s a reason to comply or not comply!!

We have both been double jabbed

What would you do?

Also to add we have a box of lateral flow tests and are both currently testing negative

Newchallenge · 11/07/2021 08:49

I didn't think compliance was optional?!

TheFallenMadonna · 11/07/2021 08:49

I would isolate for 8 days.

coconutmonkey · 11/07/2021 08:50

Delete that ridiculous app for a start. That's where you've gone wrong in the first place. Apparently it has only ever been advice to isolate if pinged on that app. Different matter if contacted directly by T&T and identified as a close contact.

Pissinthepottyplease · 11/07/2021 08:50

It is not illegal to not comply? Are you ok with potentially putting others at risk?

Oldpeoplesprinting · 11/07/2021 08:51

I would ignore it. If you’re double jabbed & testing negative, why would you stay in?! When does it end? Either jabs & tests work or they don’t.
But you’ll have people on here telling you that’s why ‘we’re in the mess we’re in’ & tell you to stay in & put your life on hold for an illness you don’t have, just in case 🙄

ComDummings · 11/07/2021 08:51

The app does not legally require you to follow their isolation ‘advice’

Pissinthepottyplease · 11/07/2021 08:51

There is a scheme where people can do daily lateral flow tests. I know of a GP who is on it.

onceivepostedidontcomeback · 11/07/2021 08:51

If you care enough to have the app you do what it says.

ColettesEarrings · 11/07/2021 08:52

If it's the app and I was double jabbed, I'd honestly ignore it and delete the app at this stage. If an actual call from T&T I'd comply.

AlexaShutUp · 11/07/2021 08:52

Of course he should comply. Hmm

nowanotherone · 11/07/2021 08:53

The app is advisory so yes it's an option . It's not the same as the test and trace people callig you which is mandatory . Does he know where he as pinged? I think I would try and find that out and make a call based on that as heard of people pinged through wall or sat outside in restaurants which is a bit crazy but if in a confined space for long time then I would isolate.

ipswichwitch · 11/07/2021 08:53

I’ve been double jabbed, and still came down with COVID 3 days into isolation and after negative lateral flow test. If you’ve been pinged by the app then you do need to isolate. If my experience was anything to go by, expect many phone calls to check you are actually isolating (although it seemed ridiculous they were ringing my mobile and I could have said anything). There is a fine if they find out you aren’t isolating though.

gmailconfusion2 · 11/07/2021 08:53

I had this on my second day back at work from mat leave. Work told me to isolate, although varying newspapers are reporting its not a legal requirement. I took a for the 8 days. day seven as I had lost all sanity, we had no milk or bread and the baby was horrendous, but we did just go for a remote walk. I also had both vaccines

Ozanj · 11/07/2021 08:54

Switch off bluetooth or delete the app.

Ilikewinter · 11/07/2021 08:54

I'd ignore it, delete the app and carry on with your lateral flow tests.

MargosKaftan · 11/07/2021 08:55

From the app is optional.

It would depend what sort of week I'd had, has he been in close contact for extended periods with other people he doesn't know well enough to directly told they have covid?

If he has just done things like checked into various places at the same time as others (like the pub, the library etc) but not been physically close to other than people he knows well enough to be directly told they have it, then I wouldn't bother.

SpringRainbow · 11/07/2021 08:55

My answer would depend on whether you have any reason to believe that the alert would be wrong.

If you have barely had any contact with people recently then that is one thing.

However if you have been out and about and had lots of contact with people that is another thing.

Blankspace4 · 11/07/2021 08:55

The range of opinions here is why it’s so divisive and confusing!

At this point I’m not sure if it’s illegal or not, even more so if he is going to put people at risk if he’s had both jabs (the last one 4 weeks ago so fully effective) and is testing negative daily

It’s bloody stressful

OP posts:
Noterook · 11/07/2021 08:55

Delete the app, isolate it contacted by track and trace.

Noterook · 11/07/2021 08:56

The app doesn't even know who he is, it is not legally enforceable and is just advice.

SugarbabyMilly · 11/07/2021 08:56

My aunty got pinged because she was sitting inside her closed car and someone in the same car park tested positive. It's really silly.

Blankspace4 · 11/07/2021 08:59

He doesn’t know exactly where the ping source was but he has been out and about a fair bit this last week including to the pub to watch the football.

@ipswichwitch oh wow, I’ve not actually heard of anyone (directly) who tested positive after both jabs. How were your symptoms?

I think we are erring on him following the isolation but at this point I’m actually scared to let friends and family down because I know there’s going to be pressure to ignore it.

OP posts:
ivfgottwins · 11/07/2021 08:59

Well it's a matter of conscience isn't it? In a month or so time he wouldn't need to self isolate? My BIL came down with it though 7 days into self isolating having tested negative every day on lateral flows up to that point? If you are comfortable with the risk you lose to those around you it's up to you? But can you be sure everyone you meet us double jabbed? Those I know who are I'll with it are double jabbed and experienced nothing more than mild flu symptoms but those I know who haven't been vaccinated (due to things like pregnancy) or only had the one jab are much much sicker

Abraxan · 11/07/2021 09:07

The government themselves have said the app is advise, not law,
Only T&T (phone, text, school letter/call) themselves is a legal requirement.

I'd fine it hard to ignore the app once I'd read it.
However, I have turned contact tracing off so it won't happen.

Re getting an app ping: I'd be tempted to ignore unless I knew who the contact was. If I knew the contact and knew I'd been with then I'd isolate. If it was a random ping and I knew no one who'd tested positive I'd delete the app/turn off contact tracing and just be a bit more careful on the off chance.
