App is asking him to self isolate for 8 days.

I know this has been done to death but it’s stressing me / us out as got so many plans I’ve the next week and can’t work out whether that’s a reason to comply or not comply!!

We have both been double jabbed

What would you do?

You don't need the app, I've never had it and don't know anybody who has it. It makes me wonder why you choose to have it, then moan when it works as intended? Having the app means you have chosen to be randomly notified to isolate at any time.

Topseyt · 11/07/2021 10:28

@ColettesEarrings

If it's the app and I was double jabbed, I'd honestly ignore it and delete the app at this stage. If an actual call from T&T I'd comply.
Same here. Honestly, having the app was only ever advisory in the first place, not a legal obligation.

Advice from the app to isolate is not a legal obligation either.

The ridiculous app is not fit for purpose. I deleted it because I refuse to let a piece of software on my phone tell me what to do.

A direct call from test and trace would be different.

Oysterbabe · 11/07/2021 10:29

I would ignore it, as I currently am doing.

moynomore · 11/07/2021 10:30

I have the app to check into places, but contact tracing is off. No way would I isolate if i were him. Sorry, but I wouldn't.

pilingup · 11/07/2021 10:33

I would self isolate if I knew I'd been in contact with a positive case, or if T&T phoned me. I wouldn't take notice of the app (I've deleted it now)

MrsFrisbyMouse · 11/07/2021 10:36

App is advisory not a legal requirement.

Study last year found for every 100 people pinged by the app - only 6 went on to develop symptoms. This was before the vaccination programme.

Make your choices based on these facts!

My DD16 got it ten days ago, by chance we did a lft as she fainted but had no symptoms. obviously myself and DS23 isolated. Both of us have been fully vaccinated but DS tested positive on Friday, and he's pretty ill so dread to think what he'd be like with being jabbed. So far I'm not positive but it's worrying I still may get it.

shouldistop · 11/07/2021 10:37

I'd delete the app

wasthataburp · 11/07/2021 10:37

Your first mistake is downloading the app to begin with. It's not a legal requirement to isolate from the app

angieloumc · 11/07/2021 10:37

Was going to say as pp, app pinging is advisory not legal like test and trace. But as you say your DH is going to isolate.

Topseyt · 11/07/2021 10:38

@Blankspace4

We’ve got the app as you need it to check in at places? I’ve now seen contact tracing can be turned off, hasn’t appreciated that before.

He’s going to isolate

No, you don't. Plenty of people don't have smartphones so don't have the app at all. They are not excluded from entering venues such as pubs, cafés and restaurants.

If asked, they sign in giving their details on paper.

If you must have the useless app then turn contact tracing off.

ForeverFloating · 11/07/2021 10:39

Being double jabbed doesn’t stop you getting it, as I have right now. Tested negative on LF positive PCR 2 days later

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 11/07/2021 10:39

I suggest you @ Adam Wagner on Twitter, he's made Covid laws and guidelines his speciality.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 11/07/2021 10:44

The government website hasn't updated on this since September 2020.Hmm

shouldistop · 11/07/2021 10:52

You don't need the app to check in anywhere.

Blankspace4 · 11/07/2021 11:19

Ok, showing my ignorance here as every time I’ve been somewhere they point at the QR code and wait until you’ve scanned it before they let you in. I can refuse to do that and they will take my details another way in future

It’s by the by now as most of our plans will be rearranged aside from the ones I’m going to alone.

shouldistop · 11/07/2021 11:27

You don't need the app to scan a code. I also doubt the restaurant staff would be looking over your shoulder to make sure you've checked in. I just take a picture of the code.
No chance am I being told to isolate because there's been someone in a restaurant on the same day as me with covid.

User5827372728 · 11/07/2021 11:29

I would isolate to an extent. So I would go out exercising but I wouldn’t go indoor places or see friends/fam inside

Katie517 · 11/07/2021 11:35

I wouldn’t do it. Why would I isolate on the off chance I was ill? Just do daily tests. Also if you don’t have the app you just tell the staff at the place you want to get into and they take your details down with a pen and paper, most of which is full of people leaving fake details as they don’t want to have to isolate for no reason. Can’t believe people are still using that app!

Rainbowsandstorms · 11/07/2021 11:43

It’s not legally enforceable however people who are double jabbed are still getting it fairly regularly due to the high numbers of infections. Personally because he’s been in high risk environments like the pub I would isolate. If he’d just been working from home and been in the supermarket social distancing and fully masked when cases were low I’d not worry so much. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the plans to remove isolation for the fully jabbed as I strongly suspect there will be a u turn on this as too many double jabbed people are catching it at present. How would he feel if he passed it onto the people he’s due to meet with or a vulnerable person at the supermarket?

However this was before the Kent and Delta variants both of which are significantly more transmissible. If we still had the original variant and vaccinations we’d have life pretty much so back to normal.

AlwaysLatte · 11/07/2021 11:49

I would isolate. It's partly because people are not doing this that the numbers are increasing.
