App is asking him to self isolate for 8 days.

I know this has been done to death but it’s stressing me / us out as got so many plans I’ve the next week and can’t work out whether that’s a reason to comply or not comply!!

We have both been double jabbed

What would you do?

I turned test and trace off and just use the app to check in to venues. I'm doing several lateral flow tests a week anyway though.

Spekoppar · 11/07/2021 12:10

I’m currently isolating after being pinged. I’m double jabbed and the day in question what I was doing was very low risk. I get the reason why people say ignore, but for me I made the decision to have the app and it’d be really hypocritical for me to now ignore because it is inconveniencing me. I’d feel terrible if I went on to develop COVID and had been spreading it around when I knew there was a risk.

Blankspace4 · 11/07/2021 12:23

For those that missed it, DH is going to isolate.

He was due to be on annual leave from work hence the real crappy timing but he reckons he will be able to rearrange it (he works from home)
The government website hasn't updated on this since September 2020.Hmm
www.gov.uk/government/news/new-legal-duty-to-self-isolate-comes-into-force-today
That website is still accurate. Contact by Test and Trace does result in a legal requirement to isolate.

A 'ping' by the NHS Covid App is not legally enforceable. The website says this:

Users of the official NHS COVID-19 contact tracing app are anonymous and we cannot force them to self-isolate or identify them if they are not self-isolating. The app will advise a user to self-isolate if they have come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus. Users should follow that advice to protect their loved ones and stop the spread of the virus.

What App is this? I downloaded the NHS app to check my vaccination batch number a few weeks ago. It’s not the same app is it? Thanks.

No the Covid 19 app
LizJamIsFab · 11/07/2021 13:07

The app /isolation is not for his benefit it is for others.
The vaccination reduces but does not eliminate transmission.

If he isn’t intending to isolate, having the app is pointless.
If he isn’t going to isolate at least avoid pregnant women and ECV in the next 8 days.

LizJamIsFab · 11/07/2021 13:08

Sorry, not sure how I missed your updates OP

DinosaurDiana · 11/07/2021 13:10

If you’re going to ignore it you might as well delete it.

loulouljh · 11/07/2021 13:15

It begs the question why he had it downloaded?

CovidCorvid · 11/07/2021 13:53

Being double jabbed as of 4 weeks ago does not mean “it’s fully effective”. I know a last a dozen double jabbed people who have tested positive for covid in the last 2 weeks. It hopefully means he won’t get very ill….but it appears he could still catch it and transmit it.

I wouldn’t have had the app…I don’t have the app. So I guess you could argue I’m as bad as someone who has the app and ignores it. I’m sure if I had the app I’d have been pinged by now, which is why I don’t have it.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/07/2021 13:55

Get rid of the app. Carry on living your life.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/07/2021 13:58

@Blankspace4

Ok, showing my ignorance here as every time I’ve been somewhere they point at the QR code and wait until you’ve scanned it before they let you in. I can refuse to do that and they will take my details another way in future

It’s by the by now as most of our plans will be rearranged aside from the ones I’m going to alone.

Just wave your phone at it. Or take a photo of it and tell them you did it. Or use a burner phone. Or tell them your phone is too old to support the app and make up some details.
EddyF · 11/07/2021 20:30

Thank you Imnothereforthedrama.

JustABloodyMinute · 11/07/2021 22:45

Double-vaccinated friend has just tested positive. Flu (not just a bad cold) symptoms. The risk is reduced, not eliminated.

user1471453601 · 11/07/2021 22:55

My sis and her husband are double jabed. Brother in law gets a later flow every werk, always negative.

They both had a pcr test and are positive and feeling pretty rough.

Your husband needs to isolate.

Indigopearl · 12/07/2021 06:29

Double jabbed have a positivity rate of 1% compared to 5% for non vaccinated so the vaccination seems to cut risk by 80% but not eliminate it. I would isolate.

DH double jab but pinged…..what to do?
LadyPenelope68 · 12/07/2021 06:43

It’s not stressful at all - he’s been in contact, he isolates, how stressful is that?? You do realise having the jab doesn’t make you invincible don’t you?? You can still contract it and pass it on. Don’t be a selfish , do the right thing.

Chubbychubkins · 12/07/2021 07:09

How will you (he) feel if in 8 days he tests positive. How many people will he have put at risk? How will he feel about that.

I don't have the app, but if I did, I couldn't not follow it. 8 days isolation Vs potential guilt seems nothing to me.

lagerandblack · 12/07/2021 07:12

nothing you can do now but to make sure this doesnt happen again delete the app. Simples.

NautaOcts · 12/07/2021 07:14

@Newchallenge

I didn't think compliance was optional?!
It is They have confirmed recently that the app is and always was advisory. Not the same as being contacted directly by test and trace.

OP just get him to delete the app, forget it happened and do lateral flow tests daily.

Pixxie7 · 12/07/2021 07:33

You can still get Covid even if vaccinated, but shouldn’t be so ill. You also need to think of others so yes he should isolate.

Hidehi4 · 12/07/2021 07:42

It doesn’t matter if you are double jabbed. The people around where I live who are getting the delta variant are either children or double jabbed and they have been seriously ill.

Itsanewdayforme · 12/07/2021 07:56

My aunty got pinged because she was sitting inside her closed car and someone in the same car park tested positive.

Besides the point of this thread but how could you possibly know this?! Confused

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/07/2021 08:03

You can still test positive and shed the virus.

If you don't care about the people you have plans with (and those that they have plans with etc, some of whom may not have been vaccinated) getting the virus then fill your boots.

If you do, then isolate.

You do know what the right answer is really otherwise you wouldn't have come on here to ask.
