App is asking him to self isolate for 8 days.

I know this has been done to death but it’s stressing me / us out as got so many plans I’ve the next week and can’t work out whether that’s a reason to comply or not comply!!

We have both been double jabbed

What would you do?

Delete the app

I’m four weeks time the rule os isolation for him is gone anyway and bubble contacts for kids is gone next week!

Abraxan · 11/07/2021 09:08

I'd also do a pcr test now, and then continue with regular lft

Imnothereforthedrama · 11/07/2021 09:08

I don’t know anyone in real life who’d put pressure on anyone to ignore it , if your pinged you follow . I do get people that are saying ignore though but what if he did catch it ? Wouldn’t you feel terrible passing it on ? I was day 10 of isolation when I got symptoms. In a few weeks if double jabbed you won’t need to isolate . It’s up to you op I would but I suppose if I had a important even coming up I probably would just test every day and keep my distance etc , I don’t see why people can’t do that.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 11/07/2021 09:23

There's no point in PCR testing now, because you're still well within the incubation period.

He should isolate

Household contacts of those asked to isolate do not have to do the same.

But as you seem to imply that you and he shared all exposures in the day/s in question, then it would be reasonable if you chose to isolate as well.

And of course we're stringent about distancing and hygiene on those occasions where you do go out

Motorina · 11/07/2021 09:27

The app is advisory pure and simple because the way it works is anonymous. There's no way of enforcing it, because there's no way of identifying which phone has been pinged.

However... the fact he has been pinged means that his phone has been in close proximity to the phone of someone who was infectious with covid at the time. You say yourself he has been in relatively high risk places, including the pub. We know that, whilst the vaccine is very good, it isn't 100%, and double-jabbed people can and do catch and transmit covid.

Knowing that, would you be happy for him to be around your elderly and vulnerable loved one in the next few days? Because I wouldn't.

And, if you wouldn't be happy for him to be around your loved ones, why is it reasonable for him to go out and be around others?

So, yes, even though it's not mandatory, in his shoes I would self-isolate.

Doublestar · 11/07/2021 09:28

No I wouldn't isolate - not a chance.

YABU for having the (useless) app.
But you are asking on mumsnet which is not representative of the real world so everyone will come along to tell you you are a granny killer or are going to "cause a load of teens to get long covid" which is the new "granny killer".

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/07/2021 09:31

The app is not legally enforceable. Test and trace is.

I dunno why people have the app to be honest.

Jossbow · 11/07/2021 09:32

Th jab is confusing the issue.

The whole point of the jab is that if you do contract, your symptoms are ( Hopefully) a lot less- in fact that you ma not even realise you have symptoms ( or not have any) but still be infectious.

Surely that is absolutely the time you should isolate just in case you do have the virus and will spread it because you have no symptoms?

LightAsTheBreeze · 11/07/2021 09:32

Tough really, should have deleted the app

Watapalava · 11/07/2021 09:33

doublestar

You’re so right 🤣 Mumsnet another world right now

IamMaz · 11/07/2021 09:34

There was an article about this in the DM the other day - confirming that if pinged on the App it's advisory and NOT a legal requirement.

Ugzbugz · 11/07/2021 09:38

Whats the point in having the app if you don't want to listen to it?

Just delete it, mine is off because and will stay off.

Grimacingfrog · 11/07/2021 09:39

@ipswichwitch

I’ve been double jabbed, and still came down with COVID 3 days into isolation and after negative lateral flow test. If you’ve been pinged by the app then you do need to isolate. If my experience was anything to go by, expect many phone calls to check you are actually isolating (although it seemed ridiculous they were ringing my mobile and I could have said anything). There is a fine if they find out you aren’t isolating though.
My husband has it at the moment. He got it at the cricket. I'm not sure not wearing masks is a great plan. I've got it too, negative on lateral flow but all the symptoms I had when I had it last year. He was positive on lateral flow, I've been negative so far.

If he's been to the pub, he could well have it.

Brown76 · 11/07/2021 09:40

I know three people at the moment who are double jabbed, symptomatic, tested positive and isolating and 2 who are double jabbed, not got any symptoms but still isolating.

Grimacingfrog · 11/07/2021 09:41

Oh and we've both been double jabbed.

NewallKnowall · 11/07/2021 09:43

If being double jabbed doesn't reduce your transmission risk then why are we scrapping rules for double jabbed in a few weeks?

Blankspace4 · 11/07/2021 09:45

We’ve got the app as you need it to check in at places? I’ve now seen contact tracing can be turned off, hasn’t appreciated that before.

He’s going to isolate

@NewallKnowall

If being double jabbed doesn't reduce your transmission risk then why are we scrapping rules for double jabbed in a few weeks?
It reduces it but doesn't eliminate it completely. It does make you much less likely to be hospitalised though. I think we've entered a new experimental phase where they want us to get back to normal.
MrsSkylerWhite · 11/07/2021 09:46

Does it only come down to whether it’s legal or not?
I would isolate. “Plans” aren’t good enough reason not to.

The Govt’s failed everyone: people should have been paid decently to isolate from the beginning. Would have cost nowhere near the billions wasted by Ms. Harding and chums.

icklekid · 11/07/2021 09:48

Several members of staff (school) who are double jabbed have recently tested posting on PCR and then a few days later on lateral flow- I’d advise you to isolate even though it will be frustrating to miss out!

BaronessOfTheNorth · 11/07/2021 09:57

Hell no. Delete the app for starters.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/07/2021 09:59

He’s going to isolate

I just pretend to do it.
Chanel05 · 11/07/2021 10:01

I think the fact that you're even asking tells us that he won't isolate.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 11/07/2021 10:05

He has to isolate but you don't. Household members don't unless they got an alert too. So you can still go out if that helps! I would test though to be on the safe side.

@UnmentionedElephantDildo can you explain this?
There's no point in PCR testing now, because you're still well within the incubation period.
When are you supposed to use PCR tests? I didn't know it made any difference.

HelloMissus · 11/07/2021 10:08

It’s completely advisory.

My view is I will SI if a proper close contact tests positive.
If it’s a random ping with no information, then I won’t. I’ll just watch myself for possible symptoms.
