To wonder why people are still breaking covid rules?

I was outside earlier and I heard my neighbours son ask his dad if he could go to the shop, his dad said he didn't know as they're isolating and the boy told him he feels fine now and his dad let him go!

He’d be coming into contact with the cashier and other people in the shop, potentially vulnerable people.

Aibu to wonder why people still don't get it? In July 2021!

I think that ship has sailed...

jasjas1973 · 09/07/2021 17:11

Govt is removing all rules in 2 weeks, inc the isolating one, whats the point now?

SnitchyBitch · 09/07/2021 17:14

I can go in to my local shop and not be near a single person nearly every time I’m in there and then use the self-serve checkout.

KrisAkabusi · 09/07/2021 17:16

Most people have been vaccinated, so the risk is lower now than it ever has been. And all restrictions are being removed in a couple of weeks. And tens of thousands of people are gathering at a time because of the football. I'm not condoning it, but I can understand why people are breaking the rules now.

KingdomScrolls · 09/07/2021 17:17

My PIL got pinged by the app because they stopped at services, MIL was the only one who got out of the car scanned the QR code on the way in (I wouldn't have tbh), she went to the loo and came straight back out and had no contact with anyone. Technically they should be isolating for ten days it's ridiculous

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/07/2021 17:18

what do you mean by "still breaking rules"?

a lot of people aren't breaking rules, some have gotten fed up and recently got more relaxed and some never cared.

I don't even know what the rules are anymore and frankly since about mid-May I just don't care anymore.
we were absolutely sticklers until then.
had enough now

WillowGrand · 09/07/2021 17:18

Because most of them don’t make any sense and I’m quite pleased we aren’t so awed by authority that we’ve given on on good old British quiet revolution.

garlictwist · 09/07/2021 17:19

Most people have NOT been (double) vaccinated at all.

Serenschintte · 09/07/2021 17:21

Because the rules are a nonsense. The government changes the goal posts all the time. As a Brit abroad we have been totally abandoned by our government. Now the vaccines (the exact same ones a in the Uk) are not accepted when put into British arms in a different country. What a nonsense.
Yet UEFA officials and G7 can come to the Uk without quarantining.
Covid is here. We must live with it. Balancing the risks as we see fit. Unfortunately much of this rules are still being mandated by a government. One which ran a successful campaign of fear.

Echobelly · 09/07/2021 17:22

I think some people are taking gov lead and thinking 'Well, what does it matter, we won't have to isolate soon and everyone's going to get it anyway now' and going for it

rijks · 09/07/2021 17:23

He had symptoms if he said he felt fine ‘now’ so he shouldn't have gone to the shop whilst isolating for symptoms as he could spread it to others. The local shop to us is a tesco not a small corner shop.

@garlictwist

Most people have NOT been (double) vaccinated at all.
More than 50% of the UK population has had two jabs. That is "most"
fourminutestosavetheworld · 09/07/2021 17:25

Everyone's got covid fatigue now. The rules and guidance are often contradictory and make no sense. Ministers setting the rules are frequently caught breaking them. Anyone who wants a vaccination can have one.

Blinkingheckythump · 09/07/2021 17:26

Cos covid isn't going away and people are fed up now

newnortherner111 · 09/07/2021 17:27

If you are caught (unlikely) you get something equivalent to a parking fine. Indeed you are probably more likely to get a parking fine.

The so-called party of law and order had no consideration for enforcement, except for pubs and a few other businesses when they were required to close.

rijks · 09/07/2021 17:27

The vaccines aren't as effective for some vulnerable people.

Most people have NOT been (double) vaccinated at all.
The people who it actually matters the most to, certainly have.
bookworm14 · 09/07/2021 17:28

Because it’s been 17 months of restrictions and people are fed up.

PiddleOfPuppies · 09/07/2021 17:32

Well, OP. I guess they are just terrible human beings with no moral fibre. Isolating households should have a red cross painted over their doors.
Or, more likely, they are taking the pragmatic approach that they have followed the guidelines for the last year and now enough is enough, time to crack on with living life.

KittyMcKitty · 09/07/2021 17:32

I wish people did follow the rules because if they did maybe my 16 year old wouldn’t currently be really poorly. After 18 months and with soaring case numbers I struggle to understand how people don’t get it!

MonicaGellerBing · 09/07/2021 17:33

We can't all stay in forever, children are losing ridiculous amounts of school when isolating and adults are losing their jobs. I'm CV and even I can see the need for life to go on as normal as we can
TheGumption · 09/07/2021 17:36

Meh.

JustGiveMeGin · 09/07/2021 17:37

Because we can't live like this forever? Do we all stay at home until the very last covid case disappears...who knows in 20,50 or a 100 years time !
It's called trying to get on with life.

Twizbe · 09/07/2021 17:42

People are deleting the app because they don't want to be pinged and stop them going on holiday. Tbh I don't blame them.

We're going to have to learn to live with covid now. Have your jabs, do what you feel comfortable doing and don't worry about anyone else.

KittyMcKitty · 09/07/2021 17:43

So you don’t think people should test and isolate if they have symptoms like the OP’s neighbours have?
