To wonder why people are still breaking covid rules?

I was outside earlier and I heard my neighbours son ask his dad if he could go to the shop, his dad said he didn't know as they're isolating and the boy told him he feels fine now and his dad let him go!

He’d be coming into contact with the cashier and other people in the shop, potentially vulnerable people.

Aibu to wonder why people still don't get it? In July 2021!

We’ve just finished isolating while we waited for a pcr result (which was negative).
DC off school. DC off nursery, while still paying full fees.
Everyone at home and we didn’t even have the bloody virus.

We will still do the right thing and follow the ‘rules’ but I’ve stopped feeling anger towards those that don’t.

JustGiveMeGin · 09/07/2021 18:54

@KittyMcKitty I'm sorry for having a different although equally valid opinion to you. I am sorry your daughter is poorly however it doesn't change my opinion and I stand by my original post.
If you consider me socially irresponsible then so be it, I want to go back to normal (and I mean normal....not this new normal shite they have been on about). I want my children to receive the education they are entitled to, I want to take them out to the activities they enjoyed pre pandemic. More than anything I want to decide on levels of risk posed to my family (you know, like we do every time we get in a car, cross a road, take part in a sport etc) without someone trying to tell me that my shopping trip is socially irresponsible.
Perhaps vent your anger at the football matches & Wimbledon where apparently covid mustn't spread....or alternatively you do what you think is right and I will carry on as I am.

MaxNormal · 09/07/2021 18:56

Yeah I don't think most people care any more.

KittyMcKitty · 09/07/2021 18:59

@JustGiveMeGin if you are not prepared to isolate with COVID symptoms then I struggle to see how you are anything other then irresponsible!
@KrisAkabusi

From ITV news
As of the end of Thursday, July 8, the number of people in the UK to have been given a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine is 45,697,875 - an increase of 96,430 compared to the previous day. 86.8% of UK adults have received their first dose.

A total of 34,374,246 second doses have been administered - an increase of 175,467 compared to the previous day, 65.3% of UK adults have received their second dose.

That’s not most people
That’s 2/3rds of people
Literally the definition of ‘most people’ Confused

Covid symptoms could be anything. Ridiculous to expect people to isolate over every sniffle.

Cyw2018 · 09/07/2021 19:05

In Wales you can still only see 6 people in your house from your 3 household bubble (your house + 2 others), meanwhile in the rest of the UK 1000s of people are traveling the length of the country and gathering together to watch football, and you wonder WHY people are breaking the rules!!

scottish83 · 09/07/2021 19:07

"Living with the virus" means treating it the same as any other cough or cold.

Some of us are already there, some of us are getting there, and others will take a bit longer.

At this stage, it's ok to fit it into any of those categories.

JustGiveMeGin · 09/07/2021 19:09

Again @KittyMcKitty unless I'm proven to have it no I won't. You do know other viruses with similar symptoms are still doing the rounds? I do the tests regularly for work purposes so I'm as sure as I can be that I don't have it.
Personally I cannot afford to lose days and days of pay just on the off chance I might have the virus.
Maybe socially irresponsible should be defined as too poor not to work and be able to feed our children.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 09/07/2021 19:11
@newnortherner111 well we voted Labour if that’s what you’re getting at. My children behave with social responsibility they have done everything they could to protect the vulnerable but it seems no one gives a flying fuck about making them ill - lovely!
If your children have always stayed at home (since birth) when ill, kept a good distance between themselves and others, worn face coverings and sanitised their hands before and after touching things to avoid the spread of absolutely every single illness they may have ever had because most things could be fatal to someone, then you may have a point.

I suspect that would be bullshit though.

I'm sorry your kids are poorly - it's horrible and I really hope they feel better soon. Thanks
However, no one is making them poorly, it's no ones fault. It's a virus, doing what a virus will do, and human behaviour can only make a small difference to stopping the spread.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/07/2021 19:38

Exactly, milton.

TSSDNCOP · 09/07/2021 20:06

@SW1amp oh thank goodness for you, I was beginning to think I'd lost the ability to do maths.

I deleted the phone App months ago. People at work we're getting pinged because it doesn't distinguish between walls and floors in buildings.

At least you know to avoid Tesco OP.

Tealightsandd · 09/07/2021 20:13

To answer your OP, it's because some people break laws. The existence of criminals, lawbreakers, and people who want to do whatever they want regardless of the impact on society, is nothing new. Our prisons are full to bursting. Lots of people break or ignore laws.

Even if you take the entire population and not just adults, we are over 50%

HalzTangz · 09/07/2021 22:05

In a few days under 18s and those double jabbed won't have to isolate. Personally can't see how breaking the rule today or waiting few days to legally be allowed to live life as you should.
People stopped following rules a year ago when Dominic broke the rules

Doyouforseeproblems · 09/07/2021 22:19

I'm totally over it and I followed all the rules to the letter for 18 months.

ICECream821 · 09/07/2021 22:25

I washed my shopping I isolated I kept my distance - when the government allows Wimbledon and Wembley to go ahead I’m not stopping my isolating kids going to their swimming lessons!

I think you mean 16m😉
Ugzbugz · 09/07/2021 22:38

Because when will it ever be normal or safe?

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/07/2021 22:56

I think its probably more common (and most unspoken) to ask who is still actually abiding by covid rules than breaking them!

Smokeymirror · 09/07/2021 23:00

Because nobody is hardly now. I’ve been pinged , ignored it as I don’t get paid if I don’t work. If the government want to pay me to stay off then I will but until that day I have to feed my kids.

Poppins2016 · 09/07/2021 23:02

Aibu to wonder why people still don't get it? InJuly 2021!

It's precisely because it's July 2021. I don't agree with the rule breaking, but I can understand it.

TinaYouFatLard · 09/07/2021 23:10

People are breaking the rules because they finally DO get it.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 09/07/2021 23:20

The average level of intelligence on this “totally normal” island is pretty low. And half the population are of below average intelligence. That’s why so many are breaking the rules, just full on thickos.
