To wonder why people are still breaking covid rules?

I was outside earlier and I heard my neighbours son ask his dad if he could go to the shop, his dad said he didn't know as they're isolating and the boy told him he feels fine now and his dad let him go!

He’d be coming into contact with the cashier and other people in the shop, potentially vulnerable people.

Aibu to wonder why people still don't get it? In July 2021!

@rijks

The vaccines aren't as effective for some vulnerable people.
Taking that statement to its logical conclusion, we should all stay locked down at home forever because some people will have less protection from vaccines than others. Is that what you want to happen? Sounds like it.

Bollocks to that.

I have no problem at all with what the lad did, especially if they were just isolating after a ping from the useless NHS Covid 19 app (which I have deleted from my phone).

As someone else already said, "that ship has sailed." The rules in England are hopefully now about to come to an end.

None of your business what your neighbours do.

SmashingBlouson · 09/07/2021 17:51

Well we had Dominic Cummings who tested his eyes after a positive test and an ex health minister having an extra marital affair while we couldn't even go out for a meal, plus other leading scientists breaking 'rules', planes letting thousands of people in and out of the country and stadiums filled with football fans in the last week. I think people have just had enough of nothing making sense now.

rijks · 09/07/2021 17:53

@Topseyt it sounded like he had symptoms so they all were isolating especially as he said he felt fine ‘now’ so it doesn't sound like it was from the NHS app.

Well i don't even know what the 'rules' are any more. Isolate? Pinged by the app/t&t - one is legally binding, the other is not. Neither tell you who was the 'contact' - how do they know? If I came into contact with someone (a stranger) with It, how would they know my number? How do I know it's not someone with the wrong information (about me, or mixing me up with someone else? Or even doing it maliciously?)
Test? Pay loads for a stick down your throat - then isolate (without pay) until your get the positive (or negative) result. No thanks.
Symptoms - I don't know what they are any more either.

Cough is no longer one of them?

Fever? how would i know - I don't have a thermometer.

Sore throat? I have hay fever, it's always sore at this time of year.
Sniffle? Ditto.

I've been ill before. I'll be ill again. I am not going to be able to live in a sterile bubble, nor would it be beneficial to me or my Immune System to do so.

Well perhaps he is just an attention seeker who has only now realised just what the consequences will be.

Still nobody's business but theirs.

Dartsplayer · 09/07/2021 18:19

It's people like him that are why my family of five are currently all poorly with Covid. DH and I double vaxxed but it doesn't help when you're feeling utterly shit and still have 3 poorly children to look after when one brought it home from school. I have been a stickler for the rules since the start however I also believe that we should now get back to a more normal life but if people who have symptoms don't give a fuck what hope is there (I'm not saying everyone else should isolate but he should be if he had symptoms in the last 10 days). I despair

@KrisAkabusi

From ITV news
As of the end of Thursday, July 8, the number of people in the UK to have been given a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine is 45,697,875 - an increase of 96,430 compared to the previous day. 86.8% of UK adults have received their first dose.

A total of 34,374,246 second doses have been administered - an increase of 175,467 compared to the previous day, 65.3% of UK adults have received their second dose.

That’s not most people

HOkieCOkie · 09/07/2021 18:28

Because we don’t want to.

JustGiveMeGin · 09/07/2021 18:28

@KittyMcKitty do we test and isolate for every transmissible disease? Flu kills vulnerable people every year but we're not all testing and clutching our pearls incase we pass flu on....
Like I said eventually we will have to take our chances and crack on with life.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/07/2021 18:31

@HOkieCOkie

Because we don’t want to.
Yep.
FionaMumsnet · 09/07/2021 18:35

We're just going to move this to the Coronavirus topic,

KittyMcKitty · 09/07/2021 18:36

@JustGiveMeGin I’m not clutching pearls in the slightest but if people had some social responsibility rather then attitudes like yours my dd might not currently be really poorly! The child in the OP had symptoms he should be isolating.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 18:38

I am getting a deja vu feeling here.

Listening to a neighbour's conversation about isolating. It rings a bell.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 18:39

This came out today which is very good news.

newnortherner111 · 09/07/2021 18:39

@KittyMcKitty if people had social responsibility then 40% plus would not be voting Conservative. If you can call this government a Conservative one.

jelly79 · 09/07/2021 18:41

Aibu to wonder why people still don't get it?

People do get it. They have had enough. Haven't you?

What do you mean, that’s not most people? It is literally most people.

Chillychangchoo · 09/07/2021 18:42

I think the very end part of your post is why people have decided they don’t really give a shit anymore.

Sparklingbrook · 09/07/2021 18:46

If you were close enough to the isolating neighbours to hear their entire conversation that's a bit of a worry isn't it?

wasthataburp · 09/07/2021 18:46

@rijks

The vaccines aren't as effective for some vulnerable people.
So what? The rest have to isolate forever? Get a grip. Move on
wasthataburp · 09/07/2021 18:48
@Topseyt it sounded like he had symptoms so they all were isolating especially as he said he felt fine ‘now’ so it doesn't sound like it was from the NHS app.
Oh so you don't even know if he had Covid? He "had symptoms but feels fine now". He could have had a simple cough, common cold or hay fever. Stop sticking your nose in other peoples business

Middlesboroughgirl · 09/07/2021 18:48

We can't all stay locked up forever. What would the point be?

Iheartmysmart · 09/07/2021 18:50

But the rules are bonkers. DS has been pinged and told to self isolate for four days so it seems likely his contact was a gig last weekend. He’s done a LF test which is positive so is off for a PCR later. If that’s positive as well then both me and his dad have to self isolate despite both being double vaccinated and having negative LF tests ourselves.

KittyMcKitty · 09/07/2021 18:52

@newnortherner111 well we voted Labour if that’s what you’re getting at. My children behave with social responsibility they have done everything they could to protect the vulnerable but it seems no one gives a flying fuck about making them ill - lovely!

MorrisZapp · 09/07/2021 18:53

Remember that very scary first lockdown when the streets were empty and people were washing their groceries? It's over and it's never coming back. It's diminishing returns now, and with those most at risk now vaccinated and hospital numbers low, there's very little of that terror left that kept us compliant last year.
