I’ll just leave this here.

Probably best to throw those masks away sooner rather than later.

Your post is very gloaty- you realise this article is talking about human beings right?

FreeBritnee · 08/07/2021 11:44

Well thank god our kids went back to school huh

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 08/07/2021 11:45

Same thing is expected here (and anecdotally from a paediatric nurse friend, already is happening)

stressbucket1 · 08/07/2021 11:48

Yeah as above, we had a winter of hardly any babies getting RSV, now there is more mixing we are seeing a surge and will likely have a bad winter of it this year.
Babies have never worn masks so it's not due to that either.

Not gloaty - I take no pleasure in this. I’m just absolutely disgusted that this is the direction we’ve been led, largely by behavioural and other scientists…some of whom are still screeching about mask wearing. Enough is enough.

Same thing happening here, schools in summer, are full of winter bugs.

NZ didn't kill 150k people, which the UKs policy on CV has.

So yes, despite your GF post, NZ has done well.

Absolutely. But the masks and bubbles need to go pronto.

That's your reaction to that article? Why are you glad that kids are suffering? And You know its not a competition. Have you confused covid with the football? No ones winning in covid.

scully29 · 08/07/2021 11:50

And kids dont wear masks.

Why would I be glad? I’m disgusted we’ve all been complicit in this. I’m disgusted that people are still calling for a continuation of this.

Very few of those children will become seriously ill. Winter always has an RSV surge. And when they pass it on to adults it doesn’t kill them.
Oh and by the way that will happen in the UK too. Just that there will be COVID too.
What a weird post. Poor kids

SonnetForSpring · 08/07/2021 11:52

What an awful post.

Mathshelpme · 08/07/2021 11:52

@scully29

And kids dont wear masks.
Mother’s have to catch bugs to pass immunity to babies through breast feeding.

Bugs pass through adults and children and we all build up a wall of immunity to multiple things, including Covid. It doesn’t matter that little kids haven’t been wearing masks…we’ve still locked them up for months.

I was complicit too. I’m disgusted with us all.

I dont understand your points then, sounded to me like your glad the children in NZ are getting ill. My apologies if I misunderstood, I think its the title of your post.

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 08/07/2021 11:55

We had 4 weeks of lockdown back in March 2020, we haven't been in lockdown since. We also have never had a mask wearing policy apart from a few occasions on public transport and planes when we increased alert levels.

In 2 years in NZ I have seen one taxi driver wearing a mask, that's it.

I don't understand this article at all. Life has been going on pretty much completely as normal here.

Nobody in their right mind would be glad of children being ill!

But everyone seems to say how brilliantly NZ has done things. Well I’m sorry. The whole world has dealt with this poorly and we’ll be paying for this for years.

I want my son back in school, learning, socialising, having all the associated experiences and yes, even catching bugs. I am exasperated by people calling for more restrictions and more mask wearing.

The thing is when this first happened no one knew how to deal with it. Im so sorry the children are ill. Prof Whitty talked the other day about concern for our own winter, but I do not know if it was something like this he meant.

I just feel so angry and misled.

I apologise if the title comes across as gloating. That’s certainly not the intention. It reflects my feelings of pure rage towards those calling for never ending mask wearing.

Orf1abc · 08/07/2021 12:03

Aside from their initial lockdown, NZ has had barely any lockdowns beyond a few days. Children have been going to school and younger children have not been wearing masks.

The increase in other illnesses amongst children is worrying, but jumping to blame lockdowns is illogical.

FreeBritnee · 08/07/2021 12:04

Well unless a large amount of babies and young children die instead of the older adults and vulnerable people, then perhaps it won’t be seen as a great success.

Orf1abc · 08/07/2021 12:06

This is a guide to the different measures in New Zealand. Since September(?) they've been pretty much always on the lowest level. There have been a few lockdowns in specific areas lasting a few days each.
