Will they u-turn on masks?

SoSadAboutMyDad · 06/07/2021 17:40

I really hope so. I’m double vaccinated but still a bit concerned about catching Covid and I’m also not keen on the children getting it. Cases are completely out of hand and one of the hospitals in Scotland has had to cancel elective surgery today because they are full, mainly because of covid. So much for the speech the other day about how opening up is for the health of the nation Confused. England will follow Scotland for sure and end up with hospitals full. Scotland aren’t removing facemasks thankfully and there seems to have been a bit of shock that England is going to such as from Andy Burnham.

AIBU to think that they will u turn on masks by the 19th?

Alas my crystal ball is on the fritz so I can't see into the future to answer your question.

Yes, they might. They also might not. The govt will tell us if they change their mind or not.

screwcovid · 06/07/2021 17:45

Hope not can't wait to burn the bloody thing

PiccalilliChilli · 06/07/2021 17:48

From a transport POV it was mostly unenforceable. If someone said they had a disability we have to accept what they say. Even if they are not wearing a badge or lanyard.

boobot1 · 06/07/2021 17:52

I bloody hope not

PocketSize · 06/07/2021 17:54

I hope not .. I hate them. But if you want to carry on wearing yours then do 🙂

Geamhradh · 06/07/2021 17:56

I don't think the government will. But I think we'll find so many closed spaces which still have a mask policy that it won't really be that different. Lots of shops/workplaces/transport etc have already said they will still be asking people to wear them.

Sparklingbrook · 06/07/2021 18:04

My crystal ball is broken too. How can anyone possibly know?

Brokenrecord3006 · 06/07/2021 18:06

Hope not as mine is going in the bin.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 06/07/2021 18:11

I really hope so.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/07/2021 18:12

Hope not. I steam up
So can't wait to get rid of them.

PumpkinKlNG · 06/07/2021 18:13

Hope not can’t stand them!

MushMonster · 06/07/2021 18:15

U-turning is the goverment's best sport, and Boris their best champion ever.
I am just waiting, till the very end, till the last minutes, without getting excited about any of it, as it just changes all the time.

I am more concerned about whether children should be vaccinated, at least around the 10-12 year mark, when they are more susceptible to have PIMS-TS from it, and that is a serious illness. Still much to know about this, whether will affect them only after the first exposure to the virus, or it can happen later on. There is a mother in London whose older child ended in hospital, very ill after the first wave, and then her youngest followed after the second wave. It is hard to believe that living together, the second child had not been exposed to the virus yet.
Masks and other measure start to feel a bit redundant now that shops and cafes are open.

Orchidflower1 · 06/07/2021 18:15

I’d much rather masks were kept until 16-18 yo were vaccinated. That group of older children have a particularly torrid time. It seems so unfair that now the summer is here cases are rising. We will end up with local lock downs again just as schools go back.

HelloMissus · 06/07/2021 18:16

Who knows?
What we do know is that masks are still compulsory in Scotland and their Covid rates are high. Clearly they are not working in Scotland.

bellamountain · 06/07/2021 18:17

Masks are just a security blanket, we've had them in place for a year now and the virus has still been able to infect people in high numbers. I really do think they are more a placebo than anyone cares to admit.

Suranjeep · 06/07/2021 18:21

@SoSadAboutMyDad just buy yourself some FFP3 masks and make sure you tie them so hard you get bruised (they only work properly when that tight)

SonnetForSpring · 06/07/2021 18:22

I'm beginning to get the feeling that the public will be begging for them to introduce restrictions at some point... and they will oblige.

Lisyloo725 · 06/07/2021 18:30

I have to say, @SonnetForSpring that’s what I thought. Boris seemed so gung ho, and a bit carefree about opening up - so much so that I think it has panicked people - such that they want some restrictions as you say.
The scientists either side of him did t seem so pleased with the idea of no restrictions
We’ve seen the double bluff before.
The early release of this or that, leaked papers and what not - all to gauge public opinion perhaps to help with decision making. What will we accept?
To make it seem like BoJo was on our side - wanting to release us - before he hits us with the blow of “nope, restriction x and y continues”.

roguetomato · 06/07/2021 18:32

I will be wearing it even after 19th if i think it's safer to, while cases are increasing. I'm sure some will too, and some will be happy to see the end of it.

I hope they return mask wearing in secondary if they decided not to vaccinate children.

Its possible. The media seem to be quite negative today too.

Rates are lower however where there has been more overall compliance and where proper masks are worn.
Temp023 · 06/07/2021 18:38

Oh Christ, this is SO over! Can’t you people find something else to mither about?

hayley037 · 06/07/2021 18:41

We have just crossed the 5% line of the peak in people in hospital. Deaths still averaging around 20 per day, which whilst each one is sad is only 7k a year. 1,359 people died on a single day, within 28 days of a positive test at the height of the pandemic.

Numbers are still incredibly low.

I don't see any reason to u-turn and surely as someone else suggested, just get a FFP3 mask if they are that important to you.

Were many not wearing then! ? I assume as you say “we” uou work in that arena

You are completely deluded. Why are you on the coronavirus board if you don't want to witness people talking about it. How ridiculous.
