School bubbles to end

Just seen in the news- School bubbles set to end on July 19
Sajid Javid has announced the date that school isolation bubbles will end.

He says that it is likely to be July 19, and under-18s who are traced as close contacts will be exempt from the need to isolate.

I had already heard about the school bubbles but didn't realise the latter part as well.

So that means if my younger DC is a close contact from school they will not have to isolate, nor would the older one from his work? Confused

Adults if fully vaccinated would not have to, so that just leaves unvaccinated adults having to isolate.

Thank goodness! We’ve had to isolate 7 times 🙄

MissyB1 · 05/07/2021 18:25

Hooray! ds will be in year 8 in September, he needs a normal school year.

AliceLivesHere · 05/07/2021 18:26

Last day of term is the next day, shame this could come in immediately

mumsneedwine · 05/07/2021 18:29

Many staff are not fully vaccinated yet so would still have to isolate. By Sept they should be done. But if this all leads to increasing cases in adults (which staff are) then schools will close again. I know Boris forgets adults inhabit schools but they are needed to keep the places open. Let's hope it's all ok and not a super spreader environment 🤞

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/07/2021 18:31

Thank goodness. Our last day of term is 23 July so hopefully that means no isolating at all in the summer holidays.

I wonder if they will say all SI for double jabbed/kids ends on 19th too (eg if 2 days into a period of SI can stop on 19th)

Chillychangchoo · 05/07/2021 18:34

Well thank fuck for that !!!!!

KimmyAndMe · 05/07/2021 18:36

It seems business as usual once schools close for Summer. It’s probably to get a realistic view of how the vaccines are working or not.

What happens over the summer holidays will determine what is in store for us come September.

Comedycook · 05/07/2021 18:37

Yeah thanks for nothing...kids finish a day after yet due to isolating currently they are missing sports day and a school trip they were really excited about. As well as extra curricular activities they were enjoying again.

The absolute bastards

Comedycook · 05/07/2021 18:38

Just to be clear the government are the bastards not my children

laselvar · 05/07/2021 19:03

The problem here is I am the only teacher in my school who is fully vaccinated. None of the other teachers have had their second vaccinations yet. I'm not sure who is going to teach the kids!

KB921 · 05/07/2021 19:05

Fingers crossed. Without sounding like a negative Nelly, I do worry that it could change again in the winter when bugs, viruses etc spread more anyway. Summer holidays are nearly here already!

mumsneedwine · 05/07/2021 19:06

@laselvar 😂 it's like we don't exist. Kids all ok and won't get sick - yeah. Staff not fully vaccinated so can - I CAN'T HEAR YOU. Here we go again.

NuttyinNotts · 05/07/2021 19:08

Will parents of under 18s who are close contacts still be informed if they are close contacts, even if they don't have to isolate? Some families require this information to try and keep vulnerable members safe.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/07/2021 19:10

I assume we will find out tomorrow whether kids will have to test daily if a contact.

Wonder if the Government are going to make false promises about improving ventilation in schools to help mitigation , like they did about laptops

Sorry but this made me chuckleBlushGrin
Titsywoo · 05/07/2021 19:17

Why did I just read school bubbles are one of the things staying?

laselvar · 05/07/2021 19:17

I assume we will find out tomorrow whether kids will have to test daily if a contact.

LFT aren't for primary age children so won't be used with them.
Surely secondary schools don't have the time to make this work in school for the last week of school, so at best it will be done at home so how many will do it!

AliceLivesHere · 05/07/2021 19:18

Schools will be off until September in England. Ours off until the 7th September. Lots of time for second vaccine
RaraRachael · 05/07/2021 19:19

We supposedly had school bubbles of 2 classes in a year group but they were meaningless as the kids were playing together out of school and going to clubs etc. At least we didn't have any classes having to isolate in any of our local schools.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/07/2021 19:20

Sounds like covid just completely disappears on 19th July, so yep. Straight back to school ready to make unvaccinated staff ill in time for the holidays. Ace.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/07/2021 19:21

No need. Covid is gone as of 18th July. Javid says so, so it will be.
Oblomov21 · 05/07/2021 19:23

Pleased at all the things announced today.

KimmyAndMe · 05/07/2021 19:25

I’m not sure about England but all over 18’s are on track to have their second vaccines before Sept in Wales. Well, those who want them… What happens over the summer, once everything has opened up and everyone gets on with normal life will be the deciding factor As to what happens later this year.

I hope the vaccinations prove to be a success and everyone’s lives can return to normal. We’ll just have to wait and see. It’s all trail and error at this stage.

Excellent news tho’ shouldn’t ever have been a thing.
