Just seen in the news- School bubbles set to end on July 19
Sajid Javid has announced the date that school isolation bubbles will end.

He says that it is likely to be July 19, and under-18s who are traced as close contacts will be exempt from the need to isolate.

So are we to take it that schools will return in September with the usual coughs and colds allowed as long as a negative pcr test? Just thinking, if this variant is as highly infectious as we are told, it will spread throughout the schools until most children have caught it. So we can reasonably expect disruption of a different kind to the self isolations.

Howshouldibehave · 05/07/2021 19:29

I’m hopeful that before too long any 12-17 year old will be able to get the jab if they want it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/07/2021 19:30

@laselvar

The problem here is I am the only teacher in my school who is fully vaccinated. None of the other teachers have had their second vaccinations yet. I'm not sure who is going to teach the kids!
Surely by September the vast majority of staff will be double vaxxed? I'm 30 and have my second in August so people in their 20s really won't be far behind.
laselvar · 05/07/2021 19:31

Aliceliveshere - we did not break up until 26th July.
We have 2 year groups currently isolating - they are receiving remote education from teachers who are also isolating.
We have a further 7 members of staff isolating (2 positive, others have family members who are positive). We are just managing to staff the children who are in school. It is getting very hard to get supply teachers - 3 classes are being covered by TAs. If we had the isolating year groups in school we would not have enough staff to man them.
I'm not opposed to children not having to isolate, i just don't know why they didn't wait until the new term.

Surely any changes will be effective from September rather than literally 19th July. School specific rules i mean.

walkoflifewoohoo · 05/07/2021 19:51

So if a kid is told to isolate on 15th July for 10 days can they now sack that off on the 19th?

Christmasfairy2020 · 05/07/2021 19:51

Tbh only last week and this week at work I'm talking to my patients (via telephone) whom have all tested positive for covid and had vaccines ages ago. So it doesn't appear to be stopping it. They aren't as poorly just a bit of

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2021 19:54

Finally.

I hope we get a clear run to end of term then it’s done

Alone97 · 05/07/2021 20:03

Have they said about having symptoms if we still have to isolate until either a negative or positive result?

Now that’s a bugger. And a big oops the government should have vaccinated teachers earlier than their age range. They declined. Hmm
Chillychangchoo · 05/07/2021 20:35

@Christmasfairy2020

If you’re a health professional surely you should know that vaccines don’t stop you from getting covid?

If they’re just feeling a bit off then the vaccines have been effective.

User5827372728 · 05/07/2021 20:37

@laselvar

They should be doubled vaxed by sept. Most schools would have broken up by 20th July.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 05/07/2021 20:39

What about isolations commencing 18 July? Do they then end on 19th July. Lots of people were going to take DC out of school early to avoid isolation just before holidays…

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/07/2021 20:39

I wonder what will happen in Wales?

I think we’re ahead of England in terms of vaccinations but will out government make a different decision?

Personally if it were my DC that were in this situation I wouldn't be isolating them at all
laselvar · 05/07/2021 20:44

Most schools would have broken up by 20th July.

Not in London, they have another week to go after that date. As I said in a pp, tomorrow we would not be able to staff all our classes if the 2 year groups that are isolating were in school. We can't even get enough supply teachers in to cover the classes we have and are using TAs.
I don't want the children to have to isolate - but if the vast majority of staff are still needing to isolate then there is a problem. We are just surviving as it is, and rates are almost doubling each week in my borough.

I won't be isolating DS after that date if it happens.
Lemonmelonsun · 05/07/2021 20:49

Andrew mate was double vaxed he said in his show and asked "have my vaccine anti bodies waned? I had a very nasty bought of covid"... So those of us who are double vaxed.. But it wanes by winter, what can we expect!!

lljkk · 05/07/2021 20:58

So that means that isolation of close-contacts for adults will continue? That is very helpful to know. I wondered if SI would continue and hadn't heard anything -- everyone is talking about masks instead and not the important things. Argh.

Shame that the decision was supported by so many on here.

ChloeCrocodile · 05/07/2021 21:13

Johnson said that there will be changes to isolation rules for those who are vaccinated.
