Companies keeping mask requirement

I wondered if it was worth keeping a list of which cos are keeping masks? So that we can use/avoid depending on preference?

Eg, Ryanair are keeping them as mandatory

The NHS can't refuse to treat mask exempt people

No, but they can if they so choose, keep them separate from other patients and/or not permit them into the cleaner areas.

How does that work in a clinic where almost everyone will be exempt, then? And why would we have to be kept from the 'cleaner' areas - are we dirty?
ineedaholidaynow · 08/07/2021 09:14

What clinic would be where everyone is exempt?

PineappleMojito · 08/07/2021 09:16

The NHS is refusing to treat exempt people in many places. My GP won’t allow me to have a smear test if I can’t wear a mask for it. I have a legit reason in that situation to not be able to wear a mask and they don’t recognise it. I’m not the only woman this has happened to either.

I would expect all airlines to keep them at the moment. I would be surprised if any ditched them.
Pennypie · 08/07/2021 09:23

PineappleMojito, that is shocking.
I listened to an interview a few weeks ago, where someone from the BMA was arguing that phone and video GP consultations should continue, one reason being that otherwise "someone really ill" might attend a surgery.

Confused

@ineedaholidaynow

I said almost everyone.

I go to pain clinics for my trigeminal neuralgia at a neurology department. Mask exemption is very common among TN sufferers.

Not beyond the realms of possiblity that other clinics/departments may have higher incidence of exemption among its patients, either. Those dealing with respiratory conditions, psychiatry, dermatology for example.

It clearly varies - my GP allows exemptions, as does my local hospital. I really hope that people who need treatment but are exempt aren't scared into not attending hospital/GP because of threads like this.

SueSaid · 08/07/2021 10:21

'leaving those who are do desperate to keep wearing them to carry on as long as they like.'

No-one is 'desperate to keep wearing them'. We all find them unpleasant and annoying. However in a pandemic where it is spread by airborne droplets it of course makes sense to use them.

If we all took collective responsibility to use them in indoor busy places it would surely by the right thing to go until this delta variant has peaked and positive cases start reducing.

There are a minute amount of reasons when people are genuinely 'exempt'. Of course none of this matters after the 19th but I would suggest the places that continue to enforce face mask wearing as mandatory are acting responsibly. I hope those who believe they are exempt do indeed avoid these places.

FrangipaniBlue · 08/07/2021 10:44

@PersonaNonGarter

I don’t want to wear a mask - but equally I don’t think I know more about someone else’s business than they do.

‘Lists’ is just a bit Stasi for me.

This!

Whether or not a business requires me to wear a mask while I am on their premises will not influence my decision to visit their premises in any way.

If they do I'll wear one, if they don't I won't 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exemption won't exist after the 19th. You can be exempt from something which doesn't exist, in this case a mandate to wear face coverings.

People unable to wear masks won't be avoiding doing things they need to do such as buy food, get on a bus or go to work, no. They've never had to, so there's no reason why they should start now.

Don't split hairs about the different between what you deem genuine exemption and made up exemption. None of it matters anymore, as you say, because exemption isn't a thing.

Blimey! Look what this world has become. It's properly messed with people.

@ChocOrange1 - such a shit attitude. So Johnson Britain. Can't do what you want - just lie.

Not sure why you think that's my "attitude", I'm just stating facts in response to "how do I become exempt". I wear my mask when required.
TheVampiresWife · 08/07/2021 11:11

So true. And that comment is just out and out supposition in line with what that poster thinks of those who can't wear masks anyway. The NHS don't keep exempt people out of the 'cleaner areas' (whatever that means).

SueSaid · 08/07/2021 11:19

'Don't split hairs about the different between what you deem genuine exemption and made up exemption. None of it matters anymore, as you say, because exemption isn't a thing.'

True, 'made up exemptions' won't matter after the 19th. My point was they have mattered to all of use that have endured face covers for the last 15months when so many others haven't.

A pp had said those who are 'desperate to wear them' can continue and I was pointing out no one is desperate to wear them but have followed the rules in a global health emergency.

I think many responsible people will continue to wear them indoors in busy places. It will be lovely not to have to in say a deserted shop or similar.

Sleepyblueocean · 08/07/2021 11:40

"No, but they can if they so choose, keep them separate from other patients and/or not permit them into the cleaner areas."

Ds has had to wait separately or be straight in for his appointments and it has been great. He has severe autism and this is what he needs anyway but never got offered it before covid. I hope it continues.

Againstmachine · 08/07/2021 11:41

Ah the selfish bellends being thrown a people who don't wear a mask when they don't have to(I'm selfish even though I've worn them for months)

Selfish one of most over used terms of this.

southeastdweller · 08/07/2021 11:54

Just checking in to know which places to avoid.

Sleepyblueocean · 08/07/2021 11:56

"We all find them unpleasant and annoying."

No I think for most of the population and especially those who only have to wear them for short periods, they are a minor irritation. This ' everyone finds them difficult to cope with' as a way of saying no one should be exempt is ridiculous and is said by people who have no idea what difficult is.

MrsEWeatherwax · 08/07/2021 12:35

I won’t be wearing my masks after the 19 July. Can’t wait to be able to see where I am going.
And I also wash my hands regularly, thanks! And always have done.

Exactly. Big difference between 'unpleasant and annoying' and 'impossible'. It's a pretty good description of those posts, however.
TheVampiresWife · 08/07/2021 12:40

Just asked my bus driver - they won't be enforcing masks and there's no need to wear a lanyard if you're exempt, either.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 08/07/2021 12:40

I will avoid companies that do not support wearing a mask. We're still in a pandemic and it's REALLY not a lot to ask (of course there are selfish idiots who will not adhere)

SueSaid · 08/07/2021 13:57

Oh but I do. I know exactly what 'difficult' is thanks is very much, i won't list my family's medical issues (who have all covers despite being 'exempt') suffice to say I know what it is to manage challenges.

However, when we have known of a way to reduce risk, to help others to reduce the airborne particles it is beyond irritating the amount of folk that opt out. So actual vulnerable people with significant health problems have been more at risk.

Anyway. Yes more choice for us all from the 19th but I would guess once back in winter we may be encouraged to use them more.

giggly · 08/07/2021 14:04

@TheVampiresWife
I never said anything about exemptions Hmm
Simply at the moment in my NHS Trust if you refuse to wear a mask without a valid reason ie: exemption / treatment then you cannot attend face to face appointments and video consultation will continue.
There will always be people who are happy to throw others under the bus and in most cases these people have no insight whatsoever, so no point arguing.
