Companies keeping mask requirement

I wondered if it was worth keeping a list of which cos are keeping masks? So that we can use/avoid depending on preference?

Eg, Ryanair are keeping them as mandatory

@NannyAndJohn

That's Sainsbury's on the boycott list.
Hardly any shops have enforced mask wearing - how on earth have you managed for a year?!
SorrySoldOut · 06/07/2021 23:50

Retail staff are sick of the dickish customers

And look at the football…. If they can all congregate like that then 20 mins down sainos, maskless, is no biggie

DismantledKing · 06/07/2021 23:52

I noticed today in our local Sainsbury’s that fewer people were wearing masks than usual. I’ll carry on wearing mine at present, and I respect organisations that attempt to protect their staff.

hayley037 · 07/07/2021 00:11

I did wonder what companies will do when it comes to office workers, I can see plenty of companies insisting their staff wear them when walking about the office but what happens if employees refuse? Surely they won't have a leg to stand on disciplinary wise and if it escalates will tribunals take the employee or employers side.

ineedaholidaynow · 07/07/2021 00:20

Wonder if they will keep all the Perspex screens in shops.

EileenGC · 07/07/2021 00:24

What are all these people going to do when going abroad, to countries where they still require masks absolutely everywhere? I can see the news full of Sue and Dave complaining about their ruined Benidorm holiday, where someone asked them to put their masks on.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/07/2021 00:40

I'd never do long haul travel if I have to wear a mask on the plane

That's probably a good thing Grin (for the environment)

lljkk · 07/07/2021 05:58

I don't care what policy the supermarket has about big gatherings or masks allowed or banned. I'll go along with either way. Same with my workplace or what a transport provider asks us to do.

What will put me off is if anyone organises a social event but insists on knowing vaccination status before invited. Or if work imposes a policy on employees depending on our vacc status they demand to know. Or a transport provider demands to know our vaxx status. I'm not nicely tolerating policies like that.

Hsve hardly visited any shops this year because of the ridiculous stipulations and pointless queues outside limiting numbers - got barked at by a customer in Waitrose on the one day I did venture in for going the wrong way -had no idea they had a bonkers ‘one way’ system. Will be happy to buy in Sainsbury’s if they are dropping the nonsens.

I could have written this myself and feel the same way. I have no problem with those who are/were exempt but would rather avoid the angry “face nappy” non handwashing brigade for the time being thanks, and feel sorry for public facing staff. We are known as the soap dodgers of Europe for a good reason as this aversion to measures to protect public health has shown.

Elys3 · 07/07/2021 07:48

I would say that a number of organizations will still mandate mask wearing where it protects their staff. It depends on their set up as to how necessary they deem it.

TheTallOakTrees · 07/07/2021 07:53

Apart from airlines are there any companies that will keep mask wearing when it will end?

I rather assumed that if people want to keep wearing them then do and if people don't then don't. Obviously care homes and hospitals though continue.

SingingInTheShithouse · 07/07/2021 07:54

Great idea. Brilliant idea for those in my situation

I will have to avoid companies that don't keep mask requirement, or go back into hiding as I can't get my second vaccine yet & I feel pretty pissed off with the Government for this tbh as I'm not the only one I know still waiting on information as to what we do next re second vaccine & doing away with masks at this stage is dumb AF.

Bagelsandbrie · 07/07/2021 07:56

I live in a town in South Norfolk and on the local community Facebook page most of the local businesses have posted that despite the change in restrictions they are still going to keep masks and all the Covid prevention measures they currently have. I think it’s a good thing. There are still a lot of people who haven’t been vaccinated yet.

DaisyWaldron · 07/07/2021 08:02

None the of the staff under 50 in the shop where I work will be fully vaccinated by 19 July, and case rates locally are already very high, so I'm dreading "freedom day".

ragged · 07/07/2021 11:02

DH is 47 & had his 2nd jab weeks ago (not vulnerable). I'm surprised to hear about lots of under 50s not had 2nd, who wanted 2nd. Both my adult DC (neither CV or CEV or occupation exposed) will be fully vaxxed by 19 July. There's govt stats somewhere that have the cumulative % vaccinated by age group, I'm off to look for it.

DaisyWaldron · 07/07/2021 11:16

I think it varies by area. Everyone I know in London in their late 40s was able to their first vaccine in early March, whereas I (of a similar age) couldn't get a vaccine until late April. And the people in their 40s who got AZ managed to get vaccinated with an 8 week gap between jabs, whereas the Moderna ones had to wait the full 12 weeks because there was less availability. The people between 45 and 50 will almost all have (just) had their second vaccines by the 19th, but they won't have started being effective by that point. The under 45s won't have had the second dose at all including the ones who just missed out on being classified as vulnerable.

ragged · 07/07/2021 11:17

Official stats. As of 1 July which is almost a week ago now.

45% of males age 18-24 have had at least one dose
50% of females age 18-24 have had at least one dose

ie, Majority of adults have had at least one dose.

Majority of adults age 40+ had 2 doses by 1 July.

I am ready to bet a virtual raspberry pie that >60% of all adults age 18-49 will have had 2 doses of vaccination by 22/23 July -- any takers?

We are a family with a CEV person and we shop online whenever possible. Even though we'd rather shop in RL.

I would welcome a list of places where masjpks and SD continue to be required, as it's looking to be a really shit summer if there are none whatsoever.

The precautionary post-shield guidance says to avoid places which are not covid secure (ie indoors with no distancing). So they know full well that 'freedom' day is the exact opposite for a few million households

Spamfreet · 07/07/2021 11:24

It's a really tricky question for businesses to answer. As this thread shows a lot of people will be unhappy either way which is bad for business!
I'd suggest that if you are worried then continue to wear a mask that actually offers protection for the wearer against aerosol particles which is how covid generally spreads i.e a properly fitting P2 or P3 mask. These are available from DIY stores for a couple of £ each.

Witchesbelazy · 07/07/2021 13:11

I’ll give preference to companies not enforcing so that’s Sainsbury’s on the preference list

CharlotteRose90 · 07/07/2021 13:12

I’ll be wearing mine as long as I can and my airline not Ryanair though are keeping them for the time being.

newnortherner111 · 07/07/2021 17:03

@hayley037 I would think that companies could insist, just as some are insisting on double vaccination such as Pimlico Plumbers. The more difficult one may be those who wish to be working from home most of the time given the travel to/from work and the risks it brings.

newnortherner111 · 07/07/2021 17:04

Ryanair's motivation may not be entirely a concern for health and welfare, possibly that some other countries will still be insisting, or to avoid being sued.
