Women are just imagining problem periods after the vaccine

It's a blog post by a doctor on the Zoe COVID study. She's basically saying that all women who've experienced changes and issues are imagining it. Or rather, it's real but it's not down to the vaccine

What do you think on reading it? I KNOW the vaccine delayed my period and then, when it came, it was really heavy. I know this wasn't down to a painkiller I may have taken or a spot of stress I had Hmm

This is so angering. Ok, it might not be an ingredient in the vaccine that impacts on the menstrual cycle, but surely a stress response to the vaccination that impacts on menstruation is still a side effect - because it wouldn't have happened had I not been jabbed.

I'm a week late. I've only ever been late before if I've been pregnant.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 02/07/2021 17:26

If anybody has a bleed after a year or more of no periods, they need to make an appointment with the GP to discuss post menopausal bleeding, not attribute it to a vaccine and do nothing about it.

PenelopeP1tstop · 02/07/2021 17:29

@NeverDropYourMoonCup absolutely. I'm a big advocate for women not trying to shoehorn symptoms into the menopause etc. A bleed a year after the menopause must be looked into.

I’ve had a period a year after the last one. I did feel that my body was rumbling up to one though, as I’ve had ovulation twinges/ewcm for a few months. I’m under 50 and I understood that was quite normal?

Leda82 · 02/07/2021 17:35

A day after the second vaccine I had the most horrendous bleed that lasted a couple of days. Ironically, I was in the middle of a course of medication to try and stop a three month period! My period did actually stop a few days before the vaccine.
I definitely wasn't imagining things!

womanity · 02/07/2021 17:36

Oh it’s all very ‘you silly women’, isn’t it?

I thought that too.

doodlejump1980 · 02/07/2021 17:36

I got this email too. I had my first AZ jab on 3rd May. Period started (late) on 20th May and lasted for 37 DAYS only stopping when the gp eventually gave me tranexamic acid. Had my 2nd jab today. Fingers crossed it’s not as horrendous this time. Did anyone else clock the wording though???
“Adult people who menstruate…” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Women are just imagining problem periods after the vaccine
Bryonyshcmyony · 02/07/2021 17:37

Dd had Pfizer and had such a horrendous period a few weeks later she considered going to a and E.

Londontown12 · 02/07/2021 17:37

If u had to receive a steroid injection the same thing happens and so can some antibiotics and having an anaesthetic! I don’t really understand the panic x

MercyBooth · 02/07/2021 17:38

I havent had my vaccine yet. Already knowing i will be dismissed if i experience a problem isnt filling me with confidence.

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/07/2021 17:39

I've never had a steroid injection but neither anaesthetics or antibiotics made a difference to my periods?

gamerchick · 02/07/2021 17:40

No panic. Just annoyance it's being dismissed as fabrication or fantasy just like stuff like that usually does.
ahoyshipmates · 02/07/2021 17:41

Oh no, not another one. It's always the bloody same, isn't it? Women have a physical symptom and it's dismissed as all in the imagination. I never expected anything better to be honest.

If men had libido trouble after having the vaccine, they wouldn't be told it was all in the imagination, would they? No - there would be an absolute frenzy of publicity, and every scientist in the world would be redeployed to find the answer.

singswithitsfingers · 02/07/2021 17:41

I haven't bled for two years but spotted for three days after first vaccine. Could be a coincidence but i doubt it given other reports I've read

porkincider · 02/07/2021 17:42

I have periods that I can predict to the minute and have done since I was 14. My periods are always 4 days and I know exactly how heavy they will be each day. After my vaccine I came on my period as usual but then bled for 15 days. It’s day 19 now and there’s still small amounts of blood when I wipe. Absolutely infuriating and infantilising to be told that it’s unrelated to the vaccine. I’m fully pro vaccine but I can completely see why this kind of thing makes people reluctant to trust what they are told.

PenelopeP1tstop · 02/07/2021 17:43

I'm not panicking about it. It's a point of interest to discuss though isn't it?

I didn't clock the wording no. So now I'm doubly annoyed 'adult people who menstruate.'

That'll be women then

@Bryonyshcmyony
I have and I was warned it would ! Steroid injection made it heavy and early and the anaesthetic did the same ! My dentist has to prescribe me antibiotics and she pre warned that it can affect menstual cycle x

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/07/2021 17:43

what would Grissom do?

he'd look for the evidence.
are the vaccines causing these problems? is there empirical, irrefutable evidence & proof?
if not then it's all hearsay & anecdotes because correlation is not causation.

I'm not saying people are imagining symptoms. dismissing people's experiences is just wrong.
but until there's actual proof I remain sceptical

Notavegan · 02/07/2021 17:44

2nd jab caused my period to arrive unexpectedly in the night, all over the place. I didn't imagine that!

o8T8o · 02/07/2021 17:44

@ShowerOfShite

I had been period free for 4.5 years. Three weeks after my first Astra-Zeneca dose I had a horrendous bleed, so heavy. Another a month later.
another reason not to get it, I dont want to go back to menstruation now I'm in my 50's. (I hope you're ok and things go back to normal🙏)
LazyHorizon · 02/07/2021 17:45

Is it all 3 vaccines doing this?

Caramel81 · 02/07/2021 17:46

My period after my 1st vaccine came a week early and was heavy for a day and then just petered out to light spotting for another day before finishing. My periods are ALWAYS like clockwork and last for 6 days. First time in 24 years it has been different…

Medra · 02/07/2021 17:46

I’m on cerazette and have had only occasional spotting since 2012. After my first AZ I bled like a heavy period for 7 days.

Chillychangchoo · 02/07/2021 17:46

I had AZ.
Periods unaffected.

godmum56 · 02/07/2021 17:59

here's what the Beeb say. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56901353

Op, you say you KNOW that the covid vac caused your period prblems but really and truly you don't....you may believe it with all your heart...you may be right...but you don't KNOW.
